Title: Chapter 1-2, Football Practice Post by: secretoracle on August 25, 2006, 04:17:10 PM After the holiday the heat about Cal taking the quarterback slot for the game on Friday seems to have faded. John Maxon doesn't say anything to Cal directly, but he also doesn't slam into him again leaving the practice. The coach has Calvin run a few plays and the Assistant coach gives him a copy of the playbook. "No preassure Cal, but you really need to know this stuff by Friday for the game against Larkin." After practice and showers Lance comes over while Cal is tieing his shoes, "So, you throw Friday like you did today and we're golden. I hear coach is gonna rotate you and John from game to game for a while, so you'll get some playtime this year. John and his dad aren't any to happy though, John is hoping to get a college offer so sharing the field with you is not gonna make him happy." "I reckon if we're gonna be rotated by Coach we'll both get exposure anyhow, and besides he's, like, in senior year or something, and i'm only a freshman, like they'll take notice of me anyway, and if they do, it'll only be to say 'Hey we'd better keep an eye on him' right?" He said, almost snorting in disgust "And hey, if this John fella ain't as good as he reckons he is, I may just be doing them college folks a favour, letting 'em see someone good play for a change right?" He finishes tying his shoes and zips up his jacket then says "Well, I better go on home and memorise this playbook, can't be shirkin' my duties as quarterback now can I?" he smiles, and begins to walk out of the locker room. |
