Megan Howell boards the bus for the field trip to Lawson Laboratories and is suprised to see two faces she recognizes, Sarah Rollins and Calvin Stewart.  There is another boy sitting near Sarah, a boy she saw sitting with her at the Tasty Dog the other day and at lunch the last few days.  He didn't seem like the type of boy that Sarah would be going steady with, but she had lost touch with Sarah, maybe she was more different then Megan thought.

The bus is crowded and there isn't much time for Megan to socialize with people, since she didn't know most of them.  She was preoccupied, because tonight was the first game of the football season and she was going to be on the field with the squad.  She had some butterflies but for the most part she was very excited.

Lawson Laboratories was a big place, and they did some amazing stuff there, but Megan really wasn't all that interested.  She had things on her mind.  As the tour progressed the teacher had to enforce the no talking rule while the person giving the tour talked abiout this project and that project.  Megan heard some of it, but most of it was a bit over her head.

They exit an elevator onto a long walkway and the tour guide introduces a man, Megan didn't catch his name, Jacobs maybe.  He begins to talk about the wonders of the human genome and points down into a lower area.  Megan walks over to a nearby hand rail and looks down into a lab with a glass ceiling.  There she watches a number of people work while the doctor talks about what they're doing.  Megan heard the part about retro-virus and longevity, but most of the rest of it was a little too scientific for her.  She felt a little better when she realized that most everyone had the same look of 'dumb' on their faces.  It must have been the doctor.

A few minutes later the group heads to the elevator.  It takes several trips for everyone to go.  As Megan waits for the elevator to come back she notices Cal, Sarah, and Sarah's friends are still here.  The idea of talking to Cal strikes her, since the teacher went up on the elevator first.  Just then a fine spray of water comes through the elevator doors, knocking everyone down. 

Everyone stares in awe as the water pools on the floor, and then forms into a vaughely man shape.  Awe turns to shock when it speaks, pointing towards the doctor, "You did this to me you bastard."  The voice sounds strangely human for someone that's made of water.   As it's walking past Megan a door at the far end of the hallway bursts open and she can hear men screamig for everyone to stay down.  That's when the water-man reaches out an arm and snatches her up off the ground, "Back off or I kill the girl."  As if to prove he can he floods Megan's mouth and nose with water, causing her to struggle for air, gasping and struggling against him.

The next second the elevator doors open, and the bell rings.  The water-man turns to see who's there, and a blast of something white hot flies past Megan's head.  There is a sound like someone did a connonball into a pool and Megan is thrown forward, over the rail and through the glass ceiling of the lab below.  As she crashes down into the lab there are alarms and sirens, and she gets soaked again as the sprinklers go off.  A second later there is an explosion in the space she's lying in, and screaming.  She is tossed against some equipment, and then the lights go out.

At lunch Slyvia, Kel, Bruce and Seth notice that Sarah and Colin aren't present.  Dave mentions that they were going on the field trip to Chicago.

Matt wakes up Friday morning feeling pretty good.  The two guys that seem to have made it their job to mess with him have been absent the last couple of days.  While he's eating his Corn Flakes he realizes why.  The news is reporting that they were in an auto accident a couple of nights ago and were in the hospital.

That afternoon in the bathroom between classes he meets the guy that offered him a cigarette a few days ago.  Matt goes about his business, and when another kid walks in the smoker yells for him to get the hell out of his bathroom.  For some reason though, Matt does not get this treatment.
