OOC: The Fate Roll range for this event was 4-16, so everyone except Timmy and Seth are in the vicinity of this event when it happens.

Tuesday morning started like any other and even though you'd all seen some amazing things in the last few days it hadn't changed the routine of going to and from class.  Today would change that.

Matt and Rory are walking together, chatting about the probability of paranormal powers in any given population perhaps, when both of you are pushed down from behind.  Books and papers scatter everywhere.  There is some laughter from a few people, most just ignore the incident and walk around it.  Several stop to see what's going on.

"Watch where you're walking freaks."  a voice says, obviously the person that pushed the two of you down.  Rory leaps and and runs at the boy, an unexpected move.  He stops short of the bigger boy,

"LEAVE US ALONE!"  He screams, his voice crackling.

"Leave us alonnnnneeeeee."  The bully mimics, then rubs his eyes, "Or I'll cry like a baby."

Rory hauls off and hits the bigger boy, a solid blow to the head.  Rory isn't strong though, and it only managed to anger his tormenter.  The bigger boy is on him in a second, bearing him to the ground and pounding on Rory.  Some people try to pull him off, but he shrugs them off and continues to hit Rory.

A sound comes from Rory, like a roar.  It's a sound that should not have come from a boy of his size.  He slams both hands against the bully, sending him flying into the ceiling.  In the span of time that the boy flies to the ceiling, bounces off, and hits the floor, Rory grows to about twice his size.  His shirt and pants are stretched to the breaking point, his skin has become a deep red tone, and his eyes have an erie glow to them.

He gets up, and grabs the bully up off the floor, like a rag doll.  "I said leave us alone."  His voice warbles with an eire supernatural tone that matches the glow of his eyes.  Rory spins and hurls the boy down the hall, knocking down other students that aren't fast enough to get out of the way.  Rory lets out a howl of anger and sprints down the hall to the bully, who has gotten up.  Rory doesn't stop, he slams full on into the other boy and the pair of them hit the wall hard, putting a dent in the cement.

There is a blur of motion as the other boy launches a flurry of blows into Rory, who is pushed back by the onslaught.  When the flurry stops, Rory puts his fists together over his head and brings them down on the boy, hard.   The boy is knocked down to his knees, and the tile buckles from the impact.  He launches himself at Rory's legs, taking them out from under him and toppeling Rory like a tree.  As Rory's head strikes the tile it make a sound like thunder and another dent in the floor.

The other boy scrambels up Rory and begins to shower him with another flurry of fast blows.  Rory howls again, this time it's powerful enough to distort the air like a pebble in a pond, and the force knocks the other boy off of him and into a bank of lockers.  the other boy hits the lockers hard, hard enough to cause the metal to collapse and pin him.  His eyes flutter, and he's unconscious.

Rory leaps to his feet, spinning around a few times as if expecting other attackers.  The muscles of his face twitch a few times, and then his right hand goes to his chest.  He lets out a howl, a strangled sickeing sound unlike his monstrous howls and he falls to one knee.  A second later he's shrinking back to normal size, and falling over.  His hand is still clutching his chest and his breathing is coming in short sharp bursts.

As the bully begins beating Rory, Colin looks around nervously.

Where are those frickin' cops when you need them? It's like bullies have a sense telling them when they'll not be caught.

He's about to go looking for the when he hears the roar. He doesn't even have look to tell something is seriously wrong. He turns around just in time to see the bully hit the ceiling and come smashing down. His jaw fall as he sees what Rory has become and his hands go to his camera mechanically, before he even realize what he's doing. But the red brute's fury isn't over, it's just about to begin. He pulls back the girl in front of him just in time as Rory spins the boy around.

God and Great Spirit! They're gonna kill each other!

He watches them fight, paralyzed by the violence and unable to step in and stop them. Even his shouts are drowned in the chaos. Then it's over. The bully is smashed under the lockers, and Rory clutches his chest and falls down, human again.

Something snaps in Colin's brain, and urges him on. He rushes forward, elbowing his way through the crowd, trying desperately to reach the two boys. He kneels beside Rory, who is the nearest one, tries hard to find a moment of inner silence amidst all the confusion, and lays both hands on his chest.

Sylvia is on her way to composition class when the fight breaks out.  Her first impulse is unexpected.  Although she's never spoken to Rory, he's her friend by transitivity, and she almost throws down her books to push the bully away.

When Rory transforms, she's shocked senseless, just standing there at the lead edge of the crowd until Colin grabs her by the back of her dress and pulls her into the mob.


Sylvia, too stunned to argue with her instincts, steps forward and fans her long skirt to give Colin a modicum of privacy as he does what she thinks he's going to do.  Nothing to see here.  Move along, move along.

Donnie is at the edge of the crowd when the fight breaks out, but recognizes Rory's voice. While not exactly friends, Donnie knows him as a huge CCG collector often hanging out at the Vortex. Oh Jesus, someone is gonna kick his ass. I don't want to see this. Despite his best efforts to get away from the scene, the crowd is moving towards the fight and he does not get very far. Then he heard the roar. Donnie stops and turns back in time to see the bigger kid hit the ceiling. OH JESUS CHRIST! Now I have to see.

He was working his way back through the crowd, hearing the snarling and the sound of fists pummeling flesh, when the same kid comes sailing out of the crowd, knocking Donnie on his butt as he tumbles by. He sees a large red form leap through the scrambling crowd, and is once again knocked flat as the monster sails past him towards the tossed student.
He is still sitting, dumbfounded, when the fight is over. He sees the wierd Colin Crow kid and the health-food girl cluster around the shrunken form of Rory, and Donnie gets shakily to his feet, walking towards them.

Another one. This is like Mutant High school. This is seriously wierding me out.

Megan had been on her way to class, her mind running over the events of yesterday with the ice girl, Samantha apparently flying and the fact she herself had seemed to run really fast when the altercation started to unfold.  The initial start seemed rather unremarkable as she started to move around with many of the other students.  But the sudden roar from Rory (who’s name she didn’t know) caught her attention as it did with some many of the others.

She took a couple steps back as Rory grew in size, his skin tone become the dark red.   There was a distinct feeling of shock that here she was, seemingly caught up in yet another situation involving metahumans in only the last few days.  The odds of all this was starting to make her feel a bit paranoid that she was cursed or something. 

The violence of Rory’s attack on the bullies is rather frightening, but the fact that one of the bullies seems to move incredibly fast is also startling.  Then, almost as quickly as it began, it was over, the bullies were all down and Rory collapsed on the ground, turning back to normal.  She was unsure what to do at this point, not moving as some others moved out to check on those involved.  She recognized Colin as he moved over near Rory, and there was the girl from the newspaper, Sylvia she thought her name was.  In some ways, Megan was beginning to wonder if it wasn’t too late to get her father to move her to a private school if this sort of thing was going to continue.  But the thought there might not be a cheerleading team and such had her dismissing that idea rather quickly.

Matt stands frozen watching his new friend turn into a hulking beast and beat the crap out of the bully, who's suddenly obviously capable of taking punishment way beyond what a human being should be able to.

When Colin rushes out of the crowd and tries to help or examine Rory or something, Matt is broken out of his trance and he moves up to them, looking down on the unconcious Rory. "Duuude..." he mutters, "someone's been taking their gammarayed steroids for sure..." Shocked as he is, making off-color geeky comments is the only thing his mind can manage...

Rory grabs Matt's ankle, his breathing still ragged he tries to laugh at his friend's joke, "I....don't......feel.....too.....good."

Colin is terrified Rory might be having a heart attack or something. He fights to find the necessary concentration to make his magic work.

Come on! It worked at the labs, why not here? God and Great Spirit, I need your help.

As he hears Rory's lament he opens his eyes again

"Sylvia, Matt, somebody should call the nurse, I don't know if I can do anything here."

He tries again and again, but if nothing happens he moves to the bully, he's been smacked around so hard he's likely in need of some help too. Colin is probably too weak to get him out from under the lockers, but at least he tries to grasp his hand.

Sylvia scurries off to find the nurse.

Rory's breathing slows some and he waves Matt closer, "Need....to....tell you.....something."

Sarah is getting her things from her locker. Math, again.   Does it have to be every day?  It seems like its every other class.  Attack of the killer subject.  Why do I even need this stuff?  Am I going to become a math teacher?  A physicist?  A scientist?  A doctor?  No.  Well probably not. 
Sarah switches books lost in her own thoughts until a strange bellow behind her makes her look over her shoulder. 

She turns in time to see a boy slam upwards into the ceiling???  That kid Rory is below him and ... changing.   Sarah watches with her mouth open as Rory transforms into something else.  Big red and angry.  He beats the other kid down the hallway and Sarah runs the opposite direction.  The sound of the punches make her feel ill.  She dives into a classroom and grabs a phone. 

When the office picks up she hollars into it.  "There's a bad fight in this hall and somebody's been hurt!  Get an ambulance!  Get..."  She pauses before she says the police.  "Just get some help here!"

Rory pulls Matt close so he can wisper something in his ear. ((I'll PM you))

Matt senses something happening and sees Colin, with his hands on Rory's chest as though trying to hold Rory's heart inside his chest.  He watches Colin's face contort into a mask of pain and Rory's face relaxes, his breathing levels off.  "Thanks for everything." Rory says, and his eyes drift closed.

The low murmur is disrupted by the arrival of teachers and school security.  They proceed the paramedics and the firefighters.

"Go back to class."  One of th eteachers says, trying to dispurse the crowd.

The paramedics work on Rory for a few minutes, then move him to a gurney for transport to the hospital.

It takes the firefighters about half an hour to get the thug out of the lockers and into a gurney for the ride to the hospital.

The police take statements from anyone that they can, and the Principal sends everyone back to class.

Sarah sneaks off without talking to anyone.  She skips Math and goes to hide in one of the soundrooms off the music room.  She turns on the inuse sign and sits down to have a long cry.  "Why am I so upset?  All these powers cropping up.... it's everything I ever wanted.  I thought I would be ooing and ahhing over every moment but...  those kids were really getting hurt.  I should be stepping up with all my stupid useless knowledge about powers and trying to help everyone!  Instead I'm in this stupid soundproof room crying like a four year old!" 

Sarah kicks the wall a few dozen times until she's calmed down a little.  She wipes the tears away and stares at the bland foam wall across from her.  "It is amazing.  Too many things are happening all at once.  Too many kids are showing powers... even me?  Maybe.  Is something happening to all of us?  Is some kid going to develop mind powers and control the school?  Will another make fire and burn the place down?  If a dozen kids got powers this place would go to pieces.  You can't just sit there and hope everybody who gets them will be nice. " 

Colin feels like a lightning hit him. It's like he touched Seth, maybe even worse. He can feel the energy discharge through his nervous system down into Rory, and a wave of red-hot pain come u in its place. For a few moments he's not able to talk, or even breathe correctly, it's like he has to teach his body to move again. When the feeling finally wash up, he starts to tremble and cry. He crawls away as the paramedics arrive to take care of Rory, then he stumbles to the nearest restroom.


OOC: I'm just wondering, out of character since Colin is too naive to think of it, if his intervents were noticed by the police, or the paramedics, here or at the labs. Has he heard anything about it in some news coverage?

OOC: Well, technically they have no way of knowing so the answer at this point is no.

Kel had been standing near Sylvia, when the fight broke out.  He tensed up as he watched the bully knock down the two geeks, getting about ready to pounce on the bully.  But then it all happened, and he was stunned merely to say the least.  While everyone else rushed to the aid of the geek who looked like he was having a heart attack, Kel made his way down to the bully.  Inspecting every piece of damage along the way, every massive dent.  This is insane, He thinks as he stares at the boy twisted into the locker, Sheer insanity.  Being the one on the outskirts, he notices Sarah slip off looking upset.  He shakes his head, and begins shadowing her, watchin her move into the music rooms.  After a little bit of waiting, he knocks on the door, and pops his head in, "Hey, you ok?"

Sarah rubs her eyes and looks up at the door.  What's Kel doing here?  "No comment?"  She gives a little smirk at that and picks herself up off the floor.  "Yeah, I'm okay.  I just had to get away from that... the sounds of the fight and all the damage...  I guess I'm just a little blown away by everything thats happened the last few days.  Strange things are happening all over the school... just like I had hoped a few days ago.  Now I don't know what to do.  I'm half hoping somethings going to happen to me but I don't want to turn into a monster...or get smashed by one." 

Sarah starts pacing the room a little.  "Did you see Rory?  That was out of control!  He hurt people.  If he had been normal it would have been bad, a bloody nose and some bruises but now he and that other kid are probably in the hospital and who knows if either is going to be okay?  All I ever wanted was a stupid little power.  Something to make me unique you know?  A little levitation or telepathy or or... " she gestures frustratedly to the air.  "Just something small for a few oohs and ahhs.  Now powers are popping up all over the place and I'm not one of them.  I know that sounds petty.  But now I don't know if I ever want one.  Not if it's going to mean beating kids into lockers."  

She rubs away one more tear and asks, "So how are you doing?"

Kel shrugs at her question, "That's a tough question.  I just saw a kid who I thought would need help, nearly kill his attacker.  It makes you wonder what uncontrolled powers are really like...and yea, if you'd ever really want them."  He leans against the wall and sighs, "It's weird, because a similar thing happened to me a few days ago, took down a few kids I shouldn't have been able to you know?  Then you see this, that water dude that attacked what's her name, the cheerleader.  There was that ice girl.  Things are just getting out of control.  It's..."  He shakes his head and finishes, "incomprehensible."

"You were in a fight?  What is it with this school?  Everybody is getting powers and getting into fights.  I think I was happier when my biggest fear was falling asleep in class."  Sarah sighs.  "Incomprehensible is a pretty accurate word.  Maybe there's something behind it all.  Something in the water?  Some sort of psychic resonance?  I don't know.  Hey you're a reporter... get to the bottom of it.  Only... well, nobody wants to be a freak.  Would you write something about somebody even if they didn't want anybody else to know?"   

Kel smirks and says, "I once heard a phrase from my dad and it is simply 'The press is the enemy', basically don't tell anyone who writes what's going on."  He holds a serious face for a moment and then laughs, "Hell no, of course I wouldn't.  I don't really think of myself as a reporter, I just write, and it happens to be on the school newspaper.  I'd say what we have here is just the fact that weird things tend to attract each other.  This school is living proof of that."  He then chuckles a bit and says, "Falling asleep in class is still one of my biggest fears."

Cal stood stunned at the whole scene What in the Sam Hill is goin' on here! he thinks incredulously First I can break down doors without so much as a bruise, then that Colin kid healin' people and now this! There's gotta be somethin' at work here.. he begins to wonder about this as he walks to his next class Why didn't I stop those guys in the first place? I felt like I should, but somethin' strange just made me watch...nah, maybe it's just that thing on the TV a while ago, what was it? Oh yeah mob mentality or somethin' he keeps on moving  to his class, slowly thinking abut what's been going on. Hey,I should maybe talk to that Colin guy, and maybe his friends about all this stuff. He'll know somethin, and maybe if it isn't anythin major, it sure as hell'll be more than I know, and with that, he resolves to talk to Colin at the next opportunity.

"Me too, only now if I fall asleep in class I'm worried that someone will turn into a dinosaur and eat half the class.  Okay I'm not that worried yet but things are definitely too weird.  Thanks for dropping in.  I feel a little more normal and I skipped math so that's a bonus.  So.. how did you beat them up so easy?"  Sarah snaps her fingers.  "Are you one of those ninjas that Matt keeps seeing?"

Sammy heard the fight break out before she saw it.  At first she tried to squeeze past the mob surrounding the arguing boys, but then she saw the one get big and red.  She stopped and stared in amazement.  What the heck?  Ice girl yesterday, then scary red guy today... this is freaky.  I'm outta here! The press of the crowd prevented her from putting any more distance between her and the combatants; it was a struggle to not go any closer.

Then the red guy collapsed to the ground, and started to change, and some other kid rushed up to help him.  Oh no, God, please -- it looks like he's dying... he can't breathe... he needs air.  I don't want to watch somebody die.  She closed her eyes and turned her face away from the unfolding drama.

Kel laughs then shrugs, "I know the basics of martial arts and boxing, but just the basics enough to throw a good right hook and dodge.  So really I have no idea how I beat them up without breaking a sweat, I knocked them down in a punch or two, maybe I'm getting super strong or something."  He then smirks and says, "No, I'm not a ninja, though I did live in Japan for a little while."

Sarah grins at Kel, "Maybe they ninja initiated you when you weren't looking?  Okay, probably not.  Japan huh?  That must have been pretty cool.  Do you speak the language?" 

He smirks a bit and then says something that Sarah couldn't even begin to figure out, and says in english, "I picked it up.  And yea it was cool, I miss it."  He checks around for a clock and says, "How much time you think we got before anyone notices we're gone?"

Sarah shrugs, "It's only math.  Well for me anyway.  Besides, I'll just tell my teacher I saw the fight and was with the counsellor or something.  I figure I'll just roll into Lunch in a while.  Why did you want to goof off somewhere else?"

He shrugs, "Just trying to think if there's anything else worth doing around here.  Though lunch is a far better bet than anything for some fun."

"Maybe something from the kitchen has come to life and is attacking the lunch ladies!" 

Sarah lets Kel lead the way out of the band room.

He laughs a bit and says, "Wouldn't be surprising actually."  He then leads the way out of the practice room and waits for her to start walking before dropping in step with her.
