Title: Chapter 6-4, Sammy and the talk.
Post by: secretoracle on September 12, 2006, 01:31:47 PM
Samantha Jameson finsihed her homework and practiced her trombone in the garage, the only room in the house approved for this activity by her father.  Not that he didn't think Sam played well, but a trombone by itself is a hard instrument to listen to for an hour straight.

As she's wrapping up her practice her mom comes in.  She grabs one of the stools near the door and comes to sit next to her daughter.  "So, I hear there was excitement in the halls this morning.  Did you see that?  That and the incident in the Gym the other day and some people might think something is going on at your school.  How are holding up with all this?"

Yeah, yeah, one can only take so much BLAAAAAT! against the wall.  The price one pays for art...

Sammy cleans her instrument before packing it back into its case, then starts talking really fast.
"I saw what happened both times, this morning and in the gym.  Both happened right in front of me.  The ice girl came chasing somebody out of the shower and then attacked a gym teacher, then this morning a kid changed from a nerd into some kind of big red ugly monster and went after one of the bullies and then back again and I was afraid he was going to die before the paramedics could help him!"

She pauses for breath, and continues at a more normal speaking pace, but her voice is strained.

"I think something bad has happened to some of the kids at school -- maybe somebody did something to the water, or the cafeteria food.  Would... would you and dad let me transfer to Fenwick?  Leah Carpenter goes there, and I asked her and she said nothing weird has happened other than one of the Priests getting stuck in a supply closet because of a jammed lock.  I could get a part time job to help pay for the tuition...

"Sweetie."  Sam's mother begins, "That's part of the reason I came out here.  It's time you and I had a talk, private, just you and me."

Kim Jameson takes a deep breath and takes hold of her daughter's hands.  "Sam, you're a very special girl.  You have a very special gift, do you understand what I'm saying?"

Completely confused, Sam looks at her mom.  "I'm retarded?  or is this the sex talk again?"

"No."  Kim says, her confidence faltering for a moment.  "You're gifted, genetically."  She gives the idea a moment to settle in.  "You tested positive for the R-Factor.  Now, you may never develop powers of anykind, but there is a pretty good chance that you will.  so, you just have to stay strong.  If there are weird things going on at your school, if things get too bad we'll see about changing your school.  You have to promise me though, you wont tell your father or sister about this powers thing, not until we know for sure if it's even gonna be a problem.  Okay?"

Sam sits there dumbfounded for a moment.  "But I don't want powers.  I don't want to fly again!  I don't want to turn into a monster!  Nobody will ever ask me out!"  She stands up, shaking with anger, eyes brimming with tears. "Dad and Steph can't know because they aren't R Positive, are they?  That means you are! YOU did this to me!  I hate you!"

Sobbing, she bolts through the garage door and flees into the night.

"Leave me alone!"   She continues to run away blindly.

OOC: Make a Will Save DC 14

http://invisiblecastle.com/ is the dice roller of choice.  When you post a roll make sure to put a name in so I can find it later if needed.  You can post the results directly here.  For this, since your Will Save is Base 2 you'd roll 1d20+2.

Sammy runs about a block and a half and realizes that she's not running, she's flying just bove the tree tops.

NO!  She doesn't know how to turn it off, so she tries to aim herself at the top branches of a thick tree.

It doesn't take her too long to figure out how to steer herself, and with some practice she can muster a degree of control over direction and altitude.  Eventually able to make herself land.

She doesn't go home until very late because she's not in a mood to talk to anybody.  When she does eventually calm down enough to go back, she lets herself in through her own bedroom window.  EDIT The normal way, by climbing up to it.
