Title: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 15, 2006, 01:19:27 PM Mr. Heep asked TJ to drop by his room after last period. When TJ arrives Mr. Heep is finishing up grading some papers. "TJ, glad you could make it. The principal asked me to look into something, and I thought it would be something you could enjoy doing." He leads TJ to a lab table at the back of the room. In a dish on the table are a number of BBs. "Apparently the ninja that are supposedly running around used these to trip a kid in the hall. They're standard .177 Caliber BBs from the store, but they're coated in some sort of low tack adhesive so they don't slide around too easily. The principal is wondering it we can figure out what the composition is so we can tell him it it's over the counter or something someone cooked up. Feel up to it?" Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: Uri on September 15, 2006, 02:13:09 PM T.J nods and adds. "And if it's been cooked up then they must have someone good with chemicals with them." He smiles and nods at Mr. Heep. "I'll get on it right away. He picks up one of the BBs with a pair of tweezers and starts to test them for various chemicals. (OCC: Do I need to roll for this?) Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 15, 2006, 02:59:46 PM "Well, yeah. I guess that's what the principal wants us to find out." Mr. Heep looks at TJ for a second, "You're not..you're not helping these guys out are you?" He paces around a little bit, "If you are, we can just say that we couldn't find anything useful. I'd understand." Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 15, 2006, 03:05:22 PM You're able to break the compound down without too much trouble. It's a pretty exotic mix. It's designed to stay a liquid until it's exposed to air, then within a half-second it becomes a low tack adhesive. Basically the BBs spread out and hit the ground but don't roll very far. then, when someone runs over them they're just as slippery as a floor covered in BBs, and they stick to you. Your guess, this is someone really talented in chemistry, although this isn't ground-breaking stuff it's home made and impressive. Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: Uri on September 15, 2006, 03:12:17 PM T.J sits back in his chair and whistles in amazement. "No, I'm not helping them out. And even if I was I don't think I could of made this." He picks up one of the BBs with his fingers. "It stays liquid while it is in the gun but once it gets in contact with air it turns into an adhesive. So if anyone steps on a group of these, they'll slip and fall flat on their face. Then when they try to get up they'll slip again. It effectively stops a guy in his tracks while they thin what to do with him, unless he takes off his shoes." He adds. He pauses and thinks for a moment. “Although I can’t say I think what they’re doing is a bad idea. It could have been done by someone far worse.†Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 15, 2006, 03:17:57 PM "Well, I can understand the temptation to do things outside the system. Every kid gets that feeling from time to time, and it's worse for the ones that are gifted. the temptation is extra strong." Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: Uri on September 15, 2006, 03:35:47 PM "With great power comes great responsibility, eh?" T.J says sadly. "At least we know what they are using. Do you know which pupils in the school could of made this?" Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 15, 2006, 03:47:29 PM Mr. Heep looks at TJ. "You." He says with a smile. "No one else I know of has demonstrated any real talent yet." Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: Uri on September 15, 2006, 04:05:08 PM T.J pauses for a minute and looks at Mr Heep. "Do you think Kriby could of done it? Or someone from the science club?" Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 15, 2006, 04:11:03 PM Mr. Heep chuckles, "Kirby almost failed Chem 101. His talents are with physics and making it misbehave. As for the Science Club, maybe a few that could make it if they had the formulae, but no one that could have come up with it out of the blue." Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: Uri on September 15, 2006, 04:33:07 PM "Yeah, I doubt many people could of come up with it out of the blue. They'd need the formulae." He stops and his eyes light up. "But what if the formulae had already been made? Kirby managed to make a force field from instructions of the internet. I'm sure someone could of found the formulae!†“I might be able to find it. Should I try?†He asks, not sure if he’s going in the right direction. Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 15, 2006, 04:38:59 PM "Sure. If it's out there then we can include that in the report to the principal. I'd rather not get a kid here in trouble if we don't have to." Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: Uri on September 15, 2006, 04:43:47 PM "Okay, let's do it." He moves towards the nearest computer in the lab (if there is one) and gets otno the internet as quickly as he can. Once online he starts to search for anything similar to the formulae. (OCC: If I need a role then http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=619098 ) Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 15, 2006, 04:49:38 PM After about 45 minutes of poking around you come across a site that you think might be where the formulae comes from. It has a whole bunch of stuff like that on it. It's an archive of super hero and villain gadgets and devices that date as far back as the late 60's. Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: Uri on September 16, 2006, 04:17:04 AM "Got it." He says just loud enough for Mr. Heep to hear. "It's an archive of old hero and villian gadgets. Some even go back to the 60's. I'm sure the formulae is on this site." Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: secretoracle on September 16, 2006, 05:44:13 AM Mr. Heep comes over to look while you check out some of the stuff on the site. You find the formulae you're looking for as well as a variety of other things that are pretty cool. Mr. Heep is interested in some of the stuff on the site as well. After having you click on a few things he seems to get aggitated, "Some of this stuff is pretty dangerous" He says quietly, "Whoever this is knows their stuff too. These are all really accurate." He has you check the root site, since all of these gadgets are actually buried deep in a site. It seems to be a dead end, as the root site is about collecting Edwardian tea service sets. "That's wierd. Well, we got what we wanted, and then some." Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal. Post by: Uri on September 16, 2006, 12:43:04 PM T.J wonders why a list of hero and villian gadgets had the same root site as Edwardian tea cups, but shakes that thought away. "I guess that's a dead end then. Unless we can moniter if anyone's been on this site here, the only thing we can do is block it so that no one can look at it in school." "Should we hand our report in or is there anything else?" Title: Re: Chapter 9-3, TJ and the project for the principal.
