Megan is on her way to cheerleading practice when the hears someone calling her name.  The older girl is running down the hall calling for Megan to stop.  The girl is pretty, and Megan has seen her around campus.  "Hi,"  she says, slightly out of breath and extending a hand to Megan.  "I'm Laura Chapman, I wanted to talk to you about the Constitutional Debate Team.  We're trying to get one started, and I was hoping you'd consider joining us.  I know that your dad is the Mayor, but I was asking some of the instructors and your Social Studies teacher thought you might be good at it.  Have you given any thought to something like this?"

Megan smiled back at Laura as she shook the older girl’s hand.  For a moment she was not so sure about joining the Constitutional debate team, but then she realized something.  Her father was always talking about when he was on a similar team in high school, so doing something similar could build some great points with him, not to mention help make him less likely to transfer her to Fenwick.  Being on the team could also provide her with a ready excuse from time to time for being out.

“Yeah, I heard about your recruiting for it and had thought about looking into it.”  Megan replies with a wider smile.  “So, sign me up I guess, especially if Mr. Harris thinks I would be good at it.”

"Great.  I have to go, but here's my email."  Laura hands Megan a slip of paper with an email address on it.  "Brian Parks agreed to join, and he's going to set up a mailing list for us, so we can work out schedules and stuff for practice.  I really appreciate this, it's harder then I thought to get four people who are interested in this stuff."

“Really?”  Megan asked, a bit surprised.  She would have thought in a large school such as this there would have been a lot more students interested in this sort of extracurricular activity that would look good on a college application.  Taking the email, she gave Laura a smile, not sure why the other girl figured she would know who Brian Parks was.  “Okay, I’ll email you when I get home tonight so you can forward that to him.  See you later.”  The blond teen then continues on towards the gym to get ready for cheerleading practice.
