Velocity hit the streets, after she finished her homework, and kept an eye out for anything strange.  She wasn't sure if it was her super speed powers, or it it had always been this way, but in her costume she noticed a lot of things she never noticed before.  The homeless, addicts, pimps and whores.  Things she had either learned to ignore or just never really saw before. 

She had persuaded a pimp to reconsider slapping one of his girls in the open, half a dozen marbles upside the head at high velocity has that effect on most people, when she spotted some strange flashing lights from an alley a few blocks away.  Moving to a spot where she can see down it she spots someone else in a costume.  Less flashy then hers, but obviously an attempt to disguise themself.  They were arcing electricity off their hands, and the target looked like one of the corner drug dealers.

Wow, costume might need a bit of work, but their powers sure seem to make up for it.  Megan thought to herself as she watched the electricity arch off the other individual’s hands.  Moving quickly down the alleyway till she is a bit closer, Megan calls out, speaking more rapidly than she normally does, “hey!  What’s going on?  Need any help?”  Her comment is more directed at the person with electrical powers than the other person.

He stops and turns.  His face is concealed by a motorcycle helmet (open face) and a pair of dark goggles.  "No, thanks.  Hey, your Velocity aren't you?"

“Okay then.”   Megan replies as she starts off, though she doesn’t get very far before she hears him add…


Moving back to about where she had been before, Megan stops again and smiles at him, both hands held behind her as she does so.  “Yep, that’s me.  And what are you calling yourself cutie?  Least, I’m going to assume that your cute, as the helmet and goggles does do a good job of concealing your face and such.  And I also totally understand if you haven’t come up with a name just yet, took me a bit to come up with one as well, but knew I had to as people were going to be like ‘who are you?’ and I couldn’t just say, ‘that fast girl’ or something else stupid.”

(OOC: the bit in fine print is spoken very quickly, probably at a speed where most people might get a few things out of it.  Also, is the drug dealer still standing?)

OOC: Drug dealer looks unconscious.

"I was thinking of Spark, or something along those lines."  He appears to look Velocity up and down, "You are really hot, those blurry pictures do not do you any justice."

“Spark is good.”  Megan replies, nodding in approval (and actually slowing herself down so it isn’t a total blur of movement).  “Descriptive and kinda action oriented.”

She does giggle slightly at his comments about her appearance as she replies.  “Thanks, is kinda hard for anyone to get a good picture when they are using cameras with maaaaaaaajorly slow shutter speeds.  Haven’t had many requests for photo shoots yet, not that anyone can really reach me easily or anything, so word of my ‘hotness’ will have to be from personal testimony.”   

As she spoke, she wondered if he would have been so brazen if they had met on the street without their identities masked.  She had been realizing that it was rather liberating to be someone else to others and otherwise anonymous when not in costume.  “So, this your ‘first time’?  Or you been quietly stopping some other crimes?”

Spark looks over at the unconscious man in the alley, "Ah, not the first time, but I'm still kinda of getting used to things.  You've been busy though, according to the papers and TV."

Megan nodded again in understanding as she replied.  “It’s easy…” she then moved around to one side of him “when you…” moved around behind “can move…” and then over to the other side “really fast.”  She grinned and added, “but I totally know how the learning curve thing goes.  That first night I was out, I had to face off with some guy that was majorly strong, like putting dents in brick walls strong.  I was just able to keep him busy till more police arrived and he decided to take off.  And then I sorta embarrassed myself fighting some crazy ninjas that had decided to attack a family for some reason, though I did manage to knock one of them out.  But have been figuring things out more as I have been going along.”

"Yeah, me too."  Spark goes over to the drug dealer and starts to go through his pockets.  He makes a pile out of the drugs the man has and hits them with an arch of lightning, keeping it up until they are a smoldering pile.  He then sticks the bundle of cash in his pocket.  "Well, I gotta be going.  It was really nice to meet you."

Megan watched Spark as he searches the drug dealer, destroying the drugs and taking the dealer’s money.  The taking the money struck her as a bit odd, but then she had no idea why he might be doing so, after all, his costume was rather piecemeal, not everyone had parents that gave them more than enough money to easily buy stuff for costumes.  If he had taken the drugs as well, she might have had more issue with it.  But still, there was not little evidence for the police to arrest the dealer for, which had her slightly suspicious.

“You know, probably better to leave the drugs near him so the police had some evidence.”  She offers with a grin, but decides not to go any further at this point.  “But it is likely time to be going, good meeting you as well, maybe we’ll run into each other again soon.”  And then she is off down the alley once more.  She figured she might want to see if there was anything in the news that might point to this guy, if he was roughing up criminals to rob them, well, it wasn’t the worst thing to be doing, but definitely not the most selfless use of his powers.  But then she figured she wasn’t exactly one who had much right to pass judgment on others, but he could always move from something like that to worse things, then he would be something she would be concerned over.

Shaking her head slightly at the overly serious analysis she was making of the mystery guy’s moral virtue, she speed up to her maximum speed as she decided she really wanted to do something to help someone innocently in a bad situation tonight if she could. 

As Megan makes her way down a street on the edges of Chicago she sees a young guirl run out of and alley.  She's probably not more then 10 or so.  She looks like a homeless kid, dirty and worn cloths.  She has blonde hair in a single pony tail and she clutches a teddy bear under one arm.  A second later two men in tactical gear, like SWAT wears, round the corner after her.  "Don't let her get away."  one of them yells as they close in on the girl.

Megan is unsure what to make of the scene before her, but she is not particularly thrilled with seeing two grown men running after what appears to be a frightened little girl.  Hoping she isn’t butting in where she really shouldn’t be, but kind of figuring she is, she runs towards the girl, trying to take a glance at the men to see if there are any distinguishing markings on them that would identify them as police or FBI.  When she gets up next to the girl, she will try to grab her and pick her up.

The men have no identifying markings on their outfits.  Megan knows that's not SOP for police and such.  She can easily snatch the girl up.  It's obvious that she's cying, and it's also easy to see that she's scared.  "Those men are after me."  she says in a very shaken manner.

Picking the girl up, Megan accelerates to pull away from the men as she asks.  “Who are they?  I’ll do my best to help you.”

"I don't know who they are.  they just broke into the place I was staying and tried to kidnap me.  don't let  them take me, please."

Velocity can hear gunshots from behind her, but she's easily able to dodge them.  The men stop shooting after only a few tries and call someone on their radios.

“I’ll do my best.”   Megan replies as she runs as fast as she can while holding the girl.  When she can she turns a corner to break the line of sight of the men and then turns towards a wall.  “Hold on.”  She says as she rushes towards the wall at full speed and then runs up it till she jumps off onto the rooftop, coming to a halt as she ducks down with the girl.

“Where were you staying that they came after you?  Did they say anything?”  

"I've been hiding in an abandoned building."  She says softly, "They broke in and tried to grab me but I ran.  I think they were the people that broke into my foster home.  That's why I ran away."

Megan frowned as she listened to the girl, not much younger than her really, wondering just what all she had gotten herself into.  “When did they break into your foster home?  Have you tried going to the police?  You can’t really keep running forever.”  She sighed, giving the girl a smile to try and let her know she wasn’t about to abandoned her right off the bat.  â€œThey seemed pretty serious back there, if they can find you, you will need some help.”

"I ran away in June, I don't remember the day.  I was living in Kansas, in Witchita Falls.  I can't go to the police, because they'll just find me again.  They'll always find me."

Megan’s jaw drops slightly.  “June?  Kansas?  How have you been living out there this long?  How in the world did you get up here?”  Suddenly the other part the girl said dawned on her as she held her hands up in front of her, her right hand making a T with her left.  “Timeout, you said they ‘always find’ you?  How many times have they found you so far?”

"This is the fourth time."  She says, "If I stay anywhere for too long they seem to come."

Aww jeeze, what did I get myself into.  Megan thought as she looked at the younger girl, trying to figure out just what the heck she was going to do about this.  She glanced down at the teddy bear the girl was carrying and then had a thought.  “Have you been carrying that around with you since you ran away?”

"Yeah"  she says, "It's Mr. Bear, he keeps me company."

Megan gave the girl a sympathetic smile.  â€œI understand the feeling, my name is Velocity, what’s your’s.”

"I'm Katie.  My last name is Stone, but I don't know if it's really my last name, it's just the one they told me when I was little."

Megan kept up a warm smile for the girl, like the one overly cheerful one she used in cheerleading.  “Nice to meet you Katie.  I hate to say it, but it could be that Mr. Bear is the reason they are finding you.  They might have a tracking device or something like that in there.  Would you be willing to leave him behind as I take you someplace else?  I know its hard, but I promise I will get you a new bear to replace him.”

Katie looks down at Mr. Bear, then at Velocity.  "I guess."  She sets the bear down on the roof.  "Bye Mr. Bear."

Megan hoped that the bear was how they were tracking this girl, but had no way of finding out.  For now, she didn’t want to wait around and see what happened after the call the two that had shot at them had made in the radio.  Picking Katie up again, she said, “okay, we’ll see if we can’t find a place to take you.  I don’t have to many ideas other than the police at this point, you can’t just keep running forever.”   She then takes off and runs over the side of the building (away from where the men had been when she found Katie) and back down to the street level. 

"I told you, if I go to the police they'll just find me.  They have my picture and stuff and they're looking for me."

“But would they try to come after you if you are with the police?”  Megan asked, frowning.  She really felt like this was bad situation, and didn’t have much else in the way of an answer as to what she could do to help this girl.  “Where would you like me to try to take you?”  She asked Katie.

"I don't know.  You think I'll be safe with the police?"

“I wish I could say for sure you would.”  Megan replied as she ran along the streets, looking for a police station.  “But I think that you likely have the best chance of being helped by the police, or the FBI, as they might be brought into this.  Otherwise you will constantly be on the run, not only having to look out for these guys, but other people out there that would want to hurt you.”

Velocity doesn't have to go too far before she finds a police station.

OOC: What's your plan for dropping her off?  Taking her inside and talking to the cops about what happened or leaving her out front?

Megan runs by the station and then comes to a stop a little bit down the block.  Letting Katie down, she looks at the younger girl.  “Well, we are here, do you want me to take you in and tell them what all I saw?”

"No, I should be okay.  Thanks."  Katie walks the rest of the way to the station and then goes inside.

Megan considers following after the girl, wondering what the police will make of her story without someone to back it up.  Yeah, a teenage superhero, really solid collaboration there.  She thinks to herself as she waves to Katie.  “No problem Katie, I will try to check on you tomorrow, besides, I need to get you a new bear.”  She then runs off to head for home.
