Megan spent some time with her mother after school and practice.  They sorted through all the closets in the house looking for cloths to donate to the homeless.  It was something that happened every fall and spring at the Howell house, and none of the other kids had ever actually helped to do it.  Megan was slightly suprised at teh amount of cloths the family accumulated between purges.  Her mother admitted it was all part of a master plan to keep a steady stream of donations heading out the door, and swore Megan to secrecy.

When they were done mom drove them down town to the various shelters and Megan headed to her room to get her stuff.  A few minutes later she was downtown as well, looking for people pretending to be Velocity.  The news reports had placed them in a few areas where she had tried to avoid.  She enjoyed the good samaratin aspects of running around using her powers, but wasn't thrilled with the idea of taking on drug dealers that might be armed and dangerous.

It didn't take her too long to find what she was looking for.  While checking an alley she spotted a blur of yellow go by.  She followed it a few blocks and saw that whoever it was had speed like hers and was using it to throw a flurry of punches onto a drug dealer in an alley.

Megan took a deep sigh, okay, here we go, time to…make the streets safe for drug dealers.  She didn’t really like the idea that what she was about to do would benefit drug dealers, but over all she knew what these imposters were doing was wrong and the worst part was they were casting bad light on her. 

Reaching into her belt pouch for some of the marbles she had there, she ran up closer to the attack and launched three of them at the back of the imposter at rapid speed.

The marbles zip through the air striking the target with brutal force.  A second later a teenage girl lies unconscious on the ground.  The man she was attacking staggers backwards and falls onto his butt.

Megan runs forward, coming to a halt near the scene, if the drug dealer is still conscious, she pulls out some more marbles and looks at him.  “I’m not interested in your money or anything else you have.  I am after these imposters.”  She says in as stern a voice she can manage.

The man on the ground holds up a badge, "Chicago PD."  Velocity can hear the sounds of people running and sirens, "So it's not you, then who the heck are they?"  the officer asks, trying to get up.

Megan lowers her hand with the marbles, very glad that at least this cop seems to think that she might be innocent.  She does glance for a wall to run up if she needs too, but focuses back on the officer as she holds out a hand to help him.  “I was wondering when you guys might try a sting like this.  I have no idea who she is.  I met a boy with electrical powers calling himself Spark, that was doing this sort of thing Monday night.  Last night I wasn’t even out…for several reasons.”

“I had considered just not putting this costume on again, but then I saw the news about Katie Stone.  I don’t like people trying to place the blame on me for their greed, all I want to do his help people and right now I would like to try to help Katie if I can, seeing as I failed her already.  Trying to bring in as many imposters as I could find seemed a good idea on trying to clear my name some so I might be able to do that.  Besides, I owe Katie a teddy bear.”

The officer accepts Velocity's hand up, then looks down at the girl on the ground.  "The PCD guys put together that there were too many sightings that were too close together to have been one person."  He moves over to the girl on the ground and handcuffs her.  "We realized that there had to be more then one."  He reaches into his pocket and gives her a business card.  "The head detective over at PCD gave us these if we should happen to bump into the real Velocity."  The card is pretty standard for the Chicago PD and has the name Inspector Kevin Kiernan on it.  Phone numbers and email are on the front and a handwritten number is on the back and the words Apple Pie.  "That's his cell on the back, he wants to talk to you.  Tell him your calling about apple pie and he'll know it's you."

Police cruisers show up and the officer waves to the approaching police, "Under control, we've got a suspect in custody."  In the crowd of officers on the scene Megan recognizes the one she saved on her first night out as Velocity.  He smiles and gives her a nod.

They take the other girl into custody.  Megan gets a look at her costume and realizes that it's a fair likeness to hers, but instead of black and white checker stiping it only has white stripes on it.  The mask is also wrong, and she's not wearing a wig.

Megan takes the card and looks back at the officer that gave it to her.  “I’ll give him a call then, you have a cellphone I can borrow for a sec?”  She asks with a grin.  “Otherwise I will have to run all the way home to get a quarter and there are likely more of these imposters out tonight.  I’d like to bring a few more down.”

(Assuming she gets a cellphone)  â€œThanks.”  Megan says as she gives returns the smile and nod to the officer she helped that first night.  As the police are taking away the other girl, she dials the number that was on the back of the card, she waited for the phone to ring.

When the other end picks up.  “Inspector Kiernan?  This is Velocity, I am calling about apple pie.”

"Nice to hear from you, I got word we picked up a couple of your look-alikes.  If you plan on sticking around you should get a radio from one of the HRT guys so you can be part of the team.  We've got guys all over, but let's face it you can cover more ground then we can.  Interested?"

It takes Megan no time at all to reply to the detective’s question.  “Yes, I am.  The quicker we can clean some of this up, the quicker I can talk to you about seeing what I might be able to do to help Katie Stone.  I am sure we will be in touch soon.”   Hanging up the phone she held it back out to the undercover cop.  “Inspector Kiernan suggested I get a radio to help bring in more of these fakes.”

"Get me a map."  The officer yelled, and he handed Velocity a small box.  "This is a single channel tactical radio, it fits in your ear and uses bone induction.  All you have to do is talk and we'll here you."  Someone hands him a map and he spreads it out on the hood of a patrol car.  He quickly shows Velocity the other locations where they have undercover officers.  "That still leaves a lot of the city to cover.  You find someone and take them down, call us and we'll get a prowl car there to pick them up.  We're hoping we bag three or four and whoever is running this little gang will call it quits."

Megan takes the small radio and fits it over her ear like she was instructed.  Stepping over to the hood of the car, she examines the map closely, but quickly thanks to the same abilities that let her study so fast.  “Okay, got it.”  She says after a couple of seconds.  â€œI’ll start here and work this way.”   She says, pointing towards the area where they currently were and out towards a part of the map that was not near the locations of the undercover cops.

“I’ll be in touch.  See you all soon.”  She says before she starts off at high speed.

Searching various back alley ways and dark streets Velocity covers the areas where she told the police she'd be looking.

She does spot another imposter, she's just finished her attack and is going through the unconscious man's pockets.

When Megan sees the next imposter she had come across, she rushed into the alley and up behind the imposter, striking at her with one of her high velocity punches.  While she didn’t particularly like the idea or striking someone from behind, but she also really didn’t like these people impersonating her.  She had no idea how they had powers like her, but they weren’t going to get away with it.

Velocity hits the imposter from behind, rolling the girl.  She is on her feet a moment later.  "Get your own block bicth."  She says, swiftly coming in with a flurry of blows.

Velocity is taken by the force of the blows.  They shower down on her like a cruel rain and she barely keeps from passing out.  the imposter backs off, "Teach you to work my side of the street."

“I’m here to take you off the street.”  Megan says through gritted teeth from the pain of the recent blows as the girl backed off.  She goes for her belt and fires off some marbles, not particularly happy with the outcome.  She then runs to a nearby wall and up to the rooftop of the building.

The marbles go streaking out, causing the other girl to move.  A moment later Velocity is up the wall and on the roof.  "What the hell?"  the other girl says from the alley below.  The sound of a watch alarm beeping causes the girl to look at her wrist, "Shit!"  she exclaims and takes off out of the alley.

Megan wonders what the signal was about, but is glad for the opportunity to chase the girl.  She runs to the side of the building near the mouth of the alley as the girl makes her way out.  Throwing another barrage of marbles, she is again disappointed in the results as they fly far wide.  Man I really suck at this, I guess I should practice or something.

The girl dodges the marbles and takes off down the street, obviously pouring her heart into the run.  Velocity is easily able to jkeep up with the girl however.

While Megan was at first disappointed in her pathetic aim, she then realizes that there might be some advantage too it as she watches the girl from the rooftop.  “This is Velocity.”   She says for the police on the other side.  “Had a scuffle with another one, and she started to take off when a watch alarm went off.  Might be a recall, I am going to try to follow her.”

As the other girl continues down the street, not nearly as quick as Megan herself, the blond girl (though apparently brunette thanks to her wig), runs down the side of the building and starts after the other girl, trying to keep back, hoping to not be noticed.

Volocity follows the girl several blocks.  The imposter slips into an alley, then ducks into an abandoned building.

Megan circles around the building that the other girl went into, trying to check for any sign of her leaving or anyone else coming in.  As she does, she uses the radio to contact the police and tell them about the abandoned building, giving them a cross street as she pass by a sign.

The building certainly looks deserted.  The windows and doors are boarded up, except for the back door the girl went in.

The police tell you they have units on the way there now.

There are no cars parked nearby and no obvious signs anyone is there.

Having completed her run around the building, Megan watches for a few moments before she speaks for the radio again.  “Everything looks really quite, save for a door the girl went into.  I’m checking the roof.”  She then rushes forward and up the wall to the roof of the building.

The roof is deserted and the door here that leads into the building is boarded up as well.

Megan frowns when she gets to the top.  Looking around for a few moments, she tries to discover what she can see up here.

From the roof Velocity is able to make out someone leaving through the open back door.  Obviously a woman, no costume and not running fast but definitely running away.  Maybe a hooker from her outfit?

Hmm, change of clothes?  Megan wonders as she runs back down the building and then over in front of the woman that was running.  [color=orange“Going somewhere?”[/color]  She asks as she comes to a halt a little in front of the other.

"Leave me alone."  she says, pulling a can of mace from her purse.  Velocity can tell from the voice it's the same woman that she followed here.

Megan moves a bit further from the woman at high speed as she takes out a marble and tosses it up and done some.  “You don’t seem so tough now.  Care to bet I can hit you this time with one of these?  The police are on their way, lets wait for them shall we?”

A couple of minutes later several police cruisers arrive.  The woman immediately runs over to them screaming, "Help, help, she's a crazy woman."  The officers break into groups and begin to search throught the abandoned building.  A couple of them ask the woman to empty her purse, which she refuses to do.

They place her in a car for her protection.

Megan shakes her head at the woman’s reaction when the police arrive.  Didn’t I just tell you they were on their way?  That would mean I called them.  She thinks as looks over at one of the officers that looks in charge.  “I am pretty sure she was one of the imposters.  She went into the building in one of the fake costumes, came back out dressed like that.”   She then runs over towards the entrance to the building, waiting to see what happens or if they want her to come in and help search.

She hears the word get passed that they found something inside and a few of the other officers go in.  A car arrives, two plain cloths detectives get out and come over to where Velocity is standing.  "Hi."  the cute one says, extending his hand, "Inspector Kiernan, we spoke on the phone.  Call me Kevin.  This is my partner Chris O'Brian."  the other officer shakes her hand as well.

"Inspector, you gotta come see this."  one of the officers calls from inside.

"Come on in."  Kevin says as he leads the way into the building.

Inside they see some officers standing around a make shift table.  There are syringes laying about and a box containing four of the fake velocity costumes.

"This doesn't bode well."  O'Brian says.  "More drugs, as if Superman wasn't trouble enough."

"Yeah."  Kevin says, "Get CSI in here to go over everything.  I want the innocent victim outside taken downtown.  Ask her to volunteer a DNA sample and run her through the system.  Ten'll get your twenty she's been picked up before for solicitation."

People snap into action when Kiernan speaks.  After they look around O'Brian takes Velocity's statement about her encounter with the woman.  Once he's done Kiernan brings her some coffee.  "Good nights work.  We got four in custody and might be able to get them to roll over on their boss."

Megan smiles at Inspector Kiernan and his partner as they introduce themselves.  “Nice to meet you Kevin…Inspector O’Brian.”  She shakes Kevin’s hand and then O’Brian’s.  She then turned towards the sound of the patrolman’s voice from inside the building and follows Kiernan and O’Brian when given permission to do so.

Once they were inside, Megan looked down at the table, the syringes explained some things to Megan, like why the other woman now appeared only normal.  O’Brian’s comment wasn’t welcoming, while this drug didn’t seem to make the girls as fast as her, they were still rather tough. 

Back outside, Megan gives O’Brian the statement when they ask and then takes the coffee from Kiernan when he brings it over.  “Thanks, I will be paying for it tomorrow.  Whatever that drug is, it makes them pack quite wallop, even if they don’t get as fast as me.  I should likely be heading home, but what now?”

"We'll processw them and try to get the story.  Call me tomorrow and we can talk about the Katie Stone thing after I've had a chance to read the file, it's not our case but I can make it ours.  Get some sleep, nice work tonight.  When you graduate you should think about a career as a cop."

A cop?  Yeah, daddy would love that.  Megan thought, but gave the cute inspector a smile at his compliment.  â€œThanks, I guess we will have to see what happens.”  She sets down the half empty coffee cup and the radio they had given her beside it as she continues.  “I will be sure to call you…tomorrow.”  She had almost said “cutie”, but caught her self rather quickly.  What am I doing?  Flirting with him?  He is like twice my age.  He is cute though.  She thought as she tried to keep an outwardly calm composure.

“I told the undercover officer earlier, but I should probable tell you as well, Monday night I met a boy calling himself Spark that was using electrical powers to take down drug dealers and take their money as well.  I don’t know if he is involved in this group, didn’t seem like it, he talked about just figuring things out with his powers and such.”  Megan quickly said to try and cover her near slip.  “He also destroyed the drugs he found on the dealer.”  She quickly added, not wanting to completely cast Spark in a negative light right from the start.

“But, about the other stuff, I want to try to help Katie if I can, as I failed her once already.  Besides, I owe her a teddy bear.”  She grins at the mention of the teddy bear.  “Good night.”  With that she is off, quickly picking up to full speed as she rushes back towards home.  She wasn’t sure how long she had been out, but she had a feeling it was likely a bit too long.  She would need to get a cheap sports watch to wear in costume, so she wouldn’t stay out too late all the time.

Speeding back home, once she is nearby she quickly changes back into her normal clothes and then makes her way towards the house, looking forward to getting to bed.
