Megan got home and grabbed her things.  In a little while she was Velocity and headed for the park.  There was an old payphone in the tunnel that ran under the bike path.  She'd called home from it a few times when she'd get caught in the rain as a child.  Now she was using it to call Inspector Kiernan.  She dialed the number and it rang several times before he answered, he sounded half asleep, "Kiernan."

“Hey Inspector, sorry if I woke you, what you do, sleep all day?”  Megan said in a friendly tone at the sound of Kevin’s voice.  “Oh, sorry, calling about apple pie and such, if that is still necessary.  I was hoping you might have some information about Katie, but can call back later if you like.”

"Oh, Velocity."  he says when she mentions apple pie.  "Sorry, long night.  I looked over the Stone case.  The State Police guys are not happy that I'm sticking my nose in it, but they're less happy that it may involve paranormals.  Apparently her medical records show she's R-Factor positive, so she has some type of paranomral ability.  No one seems to know what it is though so no help in trying to figure out if that was the motive for her abduction.  No one has any leads so I'm thinking of trying to bring in a sensitive to see if they can pick up anything.  you want to be there for that or just call me again and find out what they learned, if anything?"

Megan was not to happy with the limited information that Kevin had for her, but could not really blame him, and had not really expected too much anyway.  The information that Katie had been R positive was not as big a surprise as it probably should have been.  At least he still seemed to want to be doing something.  “I would like to be there if I can.  When were you thinking of doing it?  Also, I don’t know if it would help, but I had her leave a teddy bear she was carrying behind on a rooftop, was afraid it might have a tracking device in it.  I can go see if its still there.”

"I have to get a hold of this sensative, hoping to do it tomorrow evening.  As for the teddy bear, that could be helpful.  You can bring it to Metro Center and leave it at the desk for me or I can meet you somewhere i that's a little too public for you."

“Well, I am not sure if it is even still there, but I will go check and bring it to the station if it is.  I’ll be in touch Inspector.  Sorry to have woken you.”  Megan replies.

"No worries.  Sleep is for the weak, that's what my old partner used to say.  I'll look for the bear when I get in then and call me tomorrow, I should knwo by then if I'll be able to get the sensetive or not."

“Okay, have a question for you, have you ever heard the name David Banner before?”  Megan asks, thinking still about the meeting that the others from school were planning.

"Yeah.  He used to be one of the Avengers back in the day.  He helped put the latest team together a while back.  I heard he was in town, but my schedule has been too crazy so we haven't managed to link up."

An Avenger?  Even with as little as she knew about superheroes, Megan had heard of that group, if he was going to be meeting with the group from school, there perhaps there might be a reason to be there, even if most of them seemed to be jerks.  â€œOkay, thanks, I’ll see if I can’t find that bear.  Sorry to have woken you Inspector.  I’ll be in touch.”   

Hanging up the phone, Megan is still for a moment and then is off at full speed.  She was pretty sure she remembered where the building was that Katie had left the bear at.  Hopefully no one had been up there since and taken it.  She figured she had time to find it, get it to the station and then back to Oak Park for the meeting, if she decided to show.

The bear was on the roof, a few feet from where she had set it down.

Metro Center was the headquarters for the Chicago PD.  The lobby was shiny and very modern, to reflect the modern police force that Chicago PD was.  inside the lobby was the main desk, and it was manned all the time. 

Megan ran into the lobby of the ultra sleek police station and stopped in front of the main desk.  “Hi there, I’m Velocity.  The real one, not one of those stupid fakes.”  She said with a smile.  “I have something for Inspector Kiernan for the Katie Stone case he has started working on.”  She added quickly, hoping that name and the name of the girl, which had been withheld from the media would help authenticate her.  She sat the bear down on the desk with a grin as she said.  “I know it doesn’t look like much, but it was Katie’s, and Inspector Kiernan is expecting it.  Thanks.”  With that, she is off again to make her way back towards Oak Park.
