Mr. Fortune had called a few times over the last few weeks.  He'd talked to dad mostly, but he'd made sure to check up on Seth as well.  He finally let them know that he had made some deals and was ready to let them take a look at the contract.

He came by the house around 9PM, and the family gathered in the living room to go over everything.  The deal seemed very sweet, a recording contract with one of the major labels, with a sizeable signing bonus.  He was required to give them three albums over the next four years, and they were going to provide him with tutors to make sure he graduated.  Several of the major writers had already submitted some stuff for him to look at.

Seth's dad was reading over the contract when he chukled, "I'm sorry, I'm a little confused by this section here."  He looks up at Mr. Fortune, "Seth has to forfiet the rights to his psychic powers forever and in exchange you will ensure that his headaches never trouble him while he is under contract and that he never dies as a result of the tumor in his head.  What kind of crap is this?"

Seth did a sort of half choking thing at that. His mother turned to look at him, and gave him the eye...But he avoided it completely. \

His mind began to race....Everything he wanted. And nothing he wanted. The whole physcic power thing was probably the coolest thing that had ever happened to him....

But a record contract?

A RECORD CONTRACT? holy hell, this was going to be a hard decision. And how good this guy guarentee that the tumor wouldn't bother him, when the best doctors in the states couldn't?


There was more to this man than met the eye, and before Seth signed anything, he needed to know what.

"Exactly as it says.  I represent certain forces that work to strike a delicate balance in things.  They have authorized me to ensure Seth can enjoy his career and a long life, so long as he forefiets his psionic powers.  Take some time to talk it over of course, no need to sign anything now."  Fortune gets up, "You have my number when you're ready to move forward.  Good evening."

Fortune leaves, mom closing the door behind him.  "You have psychic powers?"

"His terminology is a little off, but...."  And Seth gripped the coffee table with his mind and lifted it 3 feet into the air, spinning it slowly on its y axis.

"Telekinesis"

And then he put the table down, and stared at his feet.

The look in his mother's eyes was not encouraging.  It seemed like shock, but it could have been fear.  Seth's father seemed more relaxed about it.  "Ah, when did you plan to tell us about this son?"  his father asked, fairly casual.

"Dad, you know this isn't something you make plans about."

"This is all fairly new to me. There had been little signs for a while. A paint can should have fell on me, but it veered away at the last second...things like that. But I first new about it only a few weeks ago. It's completely new to me. And i was trying to figure it all out before I talked to you."

"This is pretty huge you know."

"Still, you should have come to us.  Now that we know we can decide the best course of action."

"I'm sorry...it's just..."

"This is really new to me...This isn't like coming to you about girls or something. There isn't really a way in the kid handbook to come out and say...Mom, Dad, I have super powers."
Seth sighs,

"Since his little bombshell, my brain has been running full speed. It's my dream. But i have to give up this part of me. And it's new to me. But it's really cool. And i can think of a million uses for it, and.....

I don't know."

"No."  His mother says, coming closer, "You will give it up and take the deal that Mr. fortune offered you.  It's everything we wanted, why pass it up to play with this power of yours?"

Seth was extremely surprised by his mama's reaction. It was uncharacteristic. She was a prudent woman.

I guess she thought a possible multi-million deal was prudent.

"But mama, this isn't..." Seth stopped himself. "Who can just take powers away. Who can take my tumor away. Theres a lot to this man that demands answers. I can't just sign a piece of myself over to him without knowing anything."

"Dad?"

"I agree.  This smells of nefarious.  Before we decide anything, we'll be have our lawyer look this over and give me a complete breakdown.  Now, Seth."  He pauses, "If this man can do this, it's soemthing you might want to consider."

WHY? At this point it'd be like amputating an arm or a leg.

If that's what he was asking, would you guys be ok with it. If he was like, I can guarentee you'll be a sucess, but we really need to make you stand out. So we're going to take off one of your legs. Would you be ok with that."  

Seth is getting more and more worked up.

And don't you think that i've prayed for an end to these headaches. When i was in so much pain i couldn't move, don't you think i wished for some magic solution.

Something about this doesn't sit right. Something is wrong with this... Can't we like run a backround check on him or something.
And then Seth started to feel his headache....

"I will.  Now calm down.  He's not asking you to remove an arm or a leg, but soemthing that only you can perceive.  I'm not saying do it, I'm saying that if he checks out and can make good on his promise, you should consider it along with everything else."

His mother looks at his father and throws her hands up, "What are you telling him this for?  He might die if this thing in his brain isn't stopped.  You should tell him to do it!"

"Hey, relax.  This guy might be a joke, we need to find out first.  Okay."

Seth took a couple of deep breaths.

Yoga with his mom had calmed his teenage temper, and he drew on that, untill his anger subsided.

"You're right. About almost everything. But if you think this is only something that I can perceive."

Seth threw his arm towards his father. He didn't need to, but he figured it would make for an effective demonstration

He grabbes his father gently in telekinetic arms and lifted him into 2 feet off the couch. "You're wrong."

"I can do all kinds of things now. Things I could never even dream of."

"Like get a major record contract?"  His father says in that tone he reserves for upset clients.
