Colin gets home later then he expected, but his mom knew he might be late.  When he comes in he finds Chris sitting at the counter drinking coffee.  "Hey sport, got a minute?"

Colin lets his backpack on the ground and gets a big glass of water. He drinks a couple sips avidly, then sits in front of Chris.
"Sure."
He is not completely at ease, because he hasn't told him and his mom many things that happened in the last few days. He's not ready yet. Alex noticed though, he couldn't fool her. They've been alone with each other too much.

"There is a case.  Missing person.  This little girl that was on the run, well Velocity saved her from a scrape the other night with some commando looking guys.  she turned herself into the police, and they were sending her back to Kansas.  The two State Troopers transporting her got jumped and the girl was taken.  Kevin was wondering if you'd be willing to lend a hand and see if you can 'sense' anything.  You feel up to it?"

"Oh. That'd be Katie Stone, right? Velocity came to meet the Banners too, and I offered her my help about that. She said the PCD was already going to ask a sensitive... uh, that was me? Or there's another one? Anyway, sure, I'd love to help if I can. I'd just like my vision to be a little more reliable, but I'll try my best."

And I actually need to feel useful again. To use them for good.

"Great.  Tomorrow evening.  I'll take you downtown to the CSI lab where they have the car.  Velocity wanted to be there too.  If we get something maybe we can get this girl back."

"Tomorrow... is friday, right?"

Colin frowns.

"I..." he hesitates, but sooner or later he would have told Chris anyway "I talked with Shelia Burns. She's Rory Burns' sister. We planned to take a look at his stuff, to see if I could find the talisman that he was cursed with. I don't only have visions, sometimes I can undo magic. I thought that if I could undo the obscuring spells I could help you find... his killer."

He braces for his reaction. If he doesn't get mad he goes on "Do you think I can do both things tomorrow night, or I should tell her I'll go another time?".

"We'll do the car thing later.  Give me a call when you're done and I'll pick you up."  Chirs puts a hand on Colin's shoulder, "I think it's nice what you're doing fro Rory's family."

Colin looks at him in relief.
"Well, I... I feel like I owe him. I was just there and I couldn't save him. This I can do, instead, and I... I just have to. I wouldn't feel all right with myself if I didn't."
Then he flashes him a mischievous smile.
"I just have good role-models around, I guess."

"Yeah, and you have a good heart."

Once again, Colin thanks his complexion for hiding his blush.

Then suddenly something occurs to him.
"Chris, you didn't tell me her name." It's not a question. "Neither did Velocity. She didn't even say it was a girl, but I knew she was when she talked. Did they talk about her on the tv or on the Tribune?" He frowns thinking at it really hard. "I can't remember." This is something he rarely if ever says.

"Her name has been withheld.  Maybe your little bird whispered it to you."

"Maybe. It's never happened like this, though. I wonder why. Maybe she's special, important in some way I can't see yet. Velocity said you have something that belonged to her. You'll bring that as well?"

"Yeah, her teddy bear.  The CSI kids found a tracking device in it, very high-tech.  They're trying to figure out where it came from now."

"They put a tracking device in her teddy bear?"  For some reason he finds the very idea disgusting.
Poor girl. She likely carried it around because she really loved it, and they exploited that little innocent love. Men that can do that can do everything. Katie, I'll do my best to find you.


"Chris, you don't happen to know where I could learn some self-defense?"

"Yeah, I know some classes.  Let me find you a personal instructor though, you'll probably do better one on one.  I'll ask Stan, he knows some people in the area that might be able to help you."

"Thank you. I've gotta run to bed now, or tomorrow I'll be a zombie. Good night, Chris. You're on duty tonight?"

"Yeah, Keirnan likes to work nights for a few weeks then days, then swings.  It's certainly interesting duty.  Good night sport."
