Title: Chapter 20-1, Lunch Room
Post by: secretoracle on November 03, 2006, 11:07:12 PM
Dave and Greg are at the lunch table as usual.  When Donnie arrives Dave gives him a list of magic books and assorted parephinalia.  "This is probably everything the witches bought from the shop in Chicago.  I should have the entire list of names for you by tomorrow."

Samantha enters the cafeteria with a few of her friends.   They are already engaged in conversation.

Sammy says to her group, "So, like, if there's no football team, there's no football games.  No games, no marching band, right?  Or are they going to have us playing at mathlete events and student government meetings for the rest of the year?  Does this mean the Spring  Florida trip is cancelled too?"

Donnie's brow furrows. "Hmm. I will look up all of these tonight and see what I can discover."

Sylvia has to ask, "Dave, how are you getting the names of the girls?"  She's coming to recognize the difference between illegal and immoral in the life of a vigilante, but still, it's best to know where your information's coming from.

Megan made her way into the lunchroom a sat down with the other cheerleaders.  “Man, this is really starting to suck.”  She said, obviously talking about the announcement regarding the suspension of athletics programs till further notice.  She then leaned towards the other girls as she said.  “But I have something of a plan.”

“My mom knows like everyone on the school board, so I am going to see if she can’t get me a chance to testify in front of them as to why shutting down the athletic programs long term would be really bad.  I may not be able to change their minds, but it is better than not trying.  I have been outlining some ideas since Saturday, afraid that this might happen, but I was only thinking about something happening with the Football team.  This actually might make my arguments even better.”

Dave looks over at Sylvia and smiles, "I know a lot of people, so I've called in some favors.  It's all very clandestine."

Laura Chapman comes over to the table where the cheerleaders are sitting to talk to Megan.  "I just wanted you to know that I got a fourth for the Con Debat Team.  He's a little rough, but he's supposed to be really good.  I hope we can all get together later this week, maybe Wednesday, I'll send you an email to let you know for sure."

Samantha and friends continue their chatter.  Its kind of hard to detect who's saying what unless you're right up there with them.

"What about Homecoming?  It'd seem kind of stupid to have a Homecoming parade and dance without the football game, but its not fair to the rest of us if they cut it.  Its so not fair when a couple of idiots ruin things for the rest of us!"

"Did you hear, they found some of that superman junk in Johnny Walker's locker!  He does competitive  gymnastics , and they test for drugs, so why would he even risk it?  It can't be that good."

"I heard they're going to force all of us to have blood tests, to test for drugs.  Can they do that?  My mom is going to pitch a fit if they try to do it on me.  She's all like 'Mrs. Civil Liberties' and stuff.  She'll sue the school system again.  I hate it when she does that."

Kel arrives late as usual, and settles in with the rest of the group he then leans in and says, "That fight was nuts at the football game, but I mean I still can't believe they've suspended all the sports teams.  People are going to go crazy over this."
