Megan got home after what turned out to be a very short practice.  She took care of some things and then headed out.

As Velocity she made a call to Inspector Kiernan to find out about the Katie Stone case in light of recent news reports.

"That little incident last night, those guys from Comet Biotech said they were chasing armed men, but a couple of witnesses told me they were actually chasing a litle girl that matched Katie's description.  So, right now we're thinking she's on the run again.  I've got everyone I can looking for her."

Velocity felt a bit of hope rush through her at the news that Katie might be free once more and on the run.  She hoped that the girl could elude these jerks now, but seeing as they had her for awhile, the teen did not put it past these creeps to have installed a tracking device inside Katie herself. 

“Should we meet so you can show me the areas you have had people looking through so far so I can start in other places?”   She asked, her words getting even a bit faster as she wanted to start running and searching for the young girl.

"I've got the city covered, but that leaves all the suburbs.  She made it here from Kansas, she can certainly get out of the city with no trouble.  If you could work those.  I'm going to try and enlist some other locals to help as well."

“Or she could be on her way out of the state by now.”  Velocity added, a feeling of helplessness creeping in.  Right now though, all she could do was start looking and hope that she got a break.  “Wish I had a better way to stay in touch, but I’ll give you another call in about an hour or so.”

She was then off in a flash, deciding to start scouring Oak Park and then work back in toward Chicago and then move on to the next suburb.

Velocity began to search the area for Katie.  She zipped along the streets, through the alleys and checked every nook and cranny she could find for the little girl.  She completed the search of Oak Park and moved back towards the city before shifting over to the next suburb.

Exiting an alley Velocity is hit from behind by what feels like a million hot needles in the back.

OOC: Reflex Save DC 14 to see if you keep your feet or fall down.

"Hey, remember me?"  A voice says from the direction of the attack.  "I had a good thing going.  I gave them the serum and I got a cool twenty percent of the take.  But noooooo, you had to show up and be all goody-good."

It's Spark, and he seems intent on doing you some harm.

OOC: You have initiative.  Let me know that Reflex Save result.  If you intend to fight, then I'll need 3 attack rolls and 3 Toughness Saves (DC 14).  If you don't intend to fight then I need to know your plan.

Velocity manages to stay on her feet as she felt the bite of electricity across her back.  Turning back to see Spark, she felt a surge of rage as mentioned being involved with the Speed Freaks.  To have impersonated her was maddening enough, but right now she didn’t have time for this, she had something she would far rather be doing, but if she put this off, who knew when he might strike at her again from the darkness. 

She rushes over towards him, her fist speeding at him as she says.  “You had a good thing going at my expense!  I just wanted to help people, you only wanted to help yourself!”

Velocity connects and is immediately jolted in response.  Her blow seemed to daze him but he shook it off a second later.

OOC: Your Toughness 18 failed by 1 so you felt it when you tagged him.  He obviously can deliver a shock to anyone that touches him.

He launches another blast at Velocity but misses her, blowing a chunk out of a nearby brick wall.

"Like what you're doing is all that different.  If it's not for the cash then it's for the warm fuzzy, so you're doing this to help yourself too."

Velocity feels the muscles in her arm contract as she is shocked while hitting Spark.  Oh, no fair.  She thought as she dodge the next blast of electricity from him.  He responds to her comments causing her to scowl.  “It is possible to do things to help people for purely selfless reasons!  Like right now I should be looking for a little girl who is being chased by a bunch of thugs with guns who murdered her foster parents and chased her for six months from Kansas, but instead I have to waste time with you!”

She then runs up the wall of the nearest building, coming to a halt at the top as she calls back down.  “Besides, last I heard, doing something that gives you a warm fuzzy wasn’t illegal!”  She then sends down a volley of high velocity marbles.

From the rooftop Velocity lets go with a rapid volley of projectiles, but she doesn't managed to strike her mark as Spark manages to dodge them.

"Typical response from someone with low self esteem, or worse, an upperclass delusion of the world."  He lets go with another blast, striking her squarely.

Velocity feels her muscles contract as the blast of electricity hits her and she cries out in pain, though with much more intensity than she actually felt as she lets herself drop back from the edge.  Once out of sight, she will run back towards any shadows and attempt to hide around a corner to see if he tires to pursue her up here.

OOC: Okay, 3 bruises and your costume is looking a little rough (some scorthing).

"Shit!"  She hears Spark yell from down below.  "Get it genius."  Velocity waits a minute and hears no sounds that might indicate he's come up to the roof in pursuit.

Velocity takes a deep breath as her muscles ache and parts of her skin felt tender.  She then rushes out from where she was and if she sees nothing up on the rooftop, runs back down the side of the building to see if there was any sign of Spark below, breaking to the right before all the way down to run along the wall towards the corner.

(OOC shifting to defensive stance and dodging for a standard action as she looks to see if he is still around.)

A quick look around reveals no sign of Spark.  It seems as though he's left the scene.

Damn it.  Velocity thought as she saw that Spark was gone.  The last thing she wanted was to have to be looking over her shoulder all the time for him now, but she would much rather get back to hunting for Katie rather than trying to track down Spark.  Though she had been doing some target practice, she was still no better with her rapid fire throwing and over all felt she was not really cut out for fighting at all.

Though her body ached and she was sure her costume must look like hell right now, she was not about to stop looking for Katie.  She was off again, continuing her search while trying to keep an eye out for Spark in case he was still out there looking for her.

Velocity continues to sweep through the suburbs, heading North she scours the area West of the city, then swings back around to begin the task of combing the burbs looking for Katie.

Along the way she pulls a teenager from in front of a speeding car, stops a mugging just by stopping long enough for the mugger to see her, and directs an ambulance to a man having chest pain in the park.

As she heads down into River Forest she sees some men running in the woods to her right, and what might be Katie.

Velocity notices that it is indeed Katie.  There are certainly two, maybe four, men chasing her through the woods, roughly away from where Velocity noticed them.

Velocity feels her heart leap at the sight of Katie running, once again from the men who are after her.  She starts off after the young girl, moving as quickly as she can and dodging about in case any of the men spot her and take a shot at her.

(OOC defensive stance again and dodge as a free action as she tries to catch up with Katie)

Velocity quickly darts in and past the branches as she swoops in and scoops Katie up and then takes off for the open.  She can hear a few gunshots echo after her, then they stop and she thinks she might have heard someone scream.

"It's you, I knoew you'd come."  Katie says, holding on to Velocity as they move.

“You had better believe I would come!”   Velocity replied with a smile as she continued back towards the roads so she could really open up.  â€œHold on tight, let’s ditch these losers again!”  With that she began to accelerate as fast as she could, really speeding up once she is back up on the road.

"You were in the news, and I knew that you'd find me."

It only takes a coupke of minutes for Velocity to get Katie out of harms way and someplace safe.

"You look hurt, are you okay?"

Velocity came to a halt as she and Katie got clear of the men following and put a decent amount of distance between them.  She smiled slightly at the girl’s mention of her being on the news and knowing that she would find her.  “Well, I had some help, including Chicago’s paranormal crimes branch.  Right now they must have half the officers in Chicago out looking for you and who knows who else.  You’re a brave girl Katie, you managed to get away from those goons yet again.”

When Katie mentioned the scorch marks on her costume, Velocity looked down at them.  “Oh, these, had a run in with this jerk who throws around bolts of electricity while looking for you.  I’m a bit tender in places, but seeing you again makes it all worth it.”  She gives the younger girl a hug as she finishes and then steps back again.

“I have the bear I promised you, a friend in the PCD has it, speaking of which, we need to go find a phone so I can call him and let him know I found you.  He is the one who has people scouring the city and surround suburbs for you.”

A few minutes later Katie has Kiernan on the phone.

"I'm glad you've found her, now we just need to find a place to hide her for a while until I can get the feds involved.  Is she okay, does she need any medical attention or anything?"

“Well, just tell me where and I will get her there.”  Velocity replied to Kevin’s comment about where to hide her.  When he asks if she is okay, Velocity realizes that she had not really asked that, though she had seemed fine.  Holding one hand over the receiver, she looked over at Katie.  “Your not hurt are you?”

"Oh no.  They were very gentle with me.  They think I'm important."  Katie's voice is calm, but there is an eire quality to the look in her eyes.

“You are Katie, from what I have heard, you are.”  Velocity replied, though she was a bit bothered by the look in the other girl’s eyes.  She then took her hand off the receiver.  “She says she is fine, the did nothing to harm her.  So, what now?”

"I can't arrange for anything official until morning, and the only guy I trust to do it outside the system is in Canada fishing.  Do you have anyone you can trust to look after her until tomorrow?"

Velocity is quite a moment, she had no idea directly, but she figured she knew who she could turn to for some help.  “Yeah, I think I have an idea of someone I can turn to.  I’ll let you know what’s up when I have her somewhere.”   Hanging up the phone, she looked over at Katie.  “I am going to try to find someplace safe for you to hide till the police can take you tomorrow.  Believe me, after the last time, they are going to have as many people as they can protecting you.”

Pausing for a moment, Velocity focused on remembering Greg’s number and then dialed it in the payphone.

Greg's phone rings a few times before he answers it.  "Hello."

“Hey, it’s Velocity.”   The teen heroine says when she hears Greg’s voice on the line.  “I have a situation that I was hoping you and the others might be able to help me solve.  There is a young girl in trouble that needs a safe place to stay tonight until the police can take charge of her tomorrow morning, and it needs to be done discreetly.”

"Is her name Katie Stone, because if it is the crew is out searching the city for her even as we speak."

Velocity has a slight look of surprise on her face to hear that the others were out searching as well.  “Yeah, that’s her name.  I scoured most of the suburbs of the city to find her.  My contact in the PCD says he wants the feds involved to protect her, but that means he can’t get anything done till the morning and to bring her in now would just place here where the goons that are after her can find her easily once more, something I sure don’t want to see happen again.”

"Shouldn't be a problem.  I'm sure we can handle it.  Let me call the others and let them know she's safe and then we can make some arrangement to put her up somewhere.  Call me back in about ten minutes and I'll let you know what's happening on my end."

“Ten minutes?  That’s like an eternity!”   Velocity said in a teasing voice, looking over at Katie with a smile.  “Actually, I am running low on change her, this outfit doesn’t exactly come with a matching purse, so let me give you the payphone number and you can call me back.”  Velocity gives Greg the number and then hangs up to begin waiting for him to call back.

Focusing back on Katie, she asks, “did you learn anything more about why they are interested in you?”

"Oh, it's because I'm lucky and can see things before they happen."

Velocity nodded slightly in understanding before she sat down on the nearby bench and looked at the younger girl.  “Katie, why did you let me make you go to the police before if you knew these guys would find you?”

"I can't predict the future unless I think about it a lot.  It's okay though, cause it all worked out right?"

Velocity nodded in understanding, she could understand that such an ability might require a lot of concentration to effectively use, otherwise it might drive a person a bit crazy to always be knowing what was going to happen before it did.  She herself was thankful that she was able to “turn off” her superspeed for the most part, the last thing she wanted to have to do all the time was constantly be focusing on moving at a normal speed most of the time.

“Yeah, I think it has.”  She replied.  “This time the police will be much more careful, and I am in a position to better work with them, plus there are some others out there that have been looking for you as well, I am sure they will have a thing or two to say about any further attempts to take you away.”  As they talked, Velocity's right foot had begun tapping quite a bit quicker than normal as she was starting to feel a bit impatient about what was going to happen next.

The phone hadn't actually finished it's first ring before Velocity had the handset to her ear.  Her rapid greeting was all Greg needed to know it was her.

"I let Dave know what's up, but there is going to be a bit of a delay before the gang gets back here.  Apparently there is some shooting going on.  Dave said he'd let them know the second the mayhem stopped.  In the meantime you can bring her here.  I have a studio in my backyard and you're welcome to leave her here for a few minutes if you need to do other stuff."

“Shooting?”  Velocity asked, a feeling of worry coming over her for the others.  She was not sure how well any of the others were prepared to deal with someone shooting at them, she did not feel all that prepared for people shooting at her, but she at least could move real fast and make herself harder to hit.  But she knew that even with her speed, unless they were only a couple miles away at most, she would likely be unable to reach them before things were all over.

Besides, she had to look after Katie, just because they had her for now did not mean that the goons were not still looking for her.  Getting Greg’s address, she said.  “Okay, we should be there in a few minutes.  You have anyway to make a call that can’t be traced back to you or your parents?”  She asked though she knew she was likely being to optimistic to hope for that.  “I will need to call my contact at the PCD to let him know things are being taken care of, no names of course.”

"Yeah, I've got a clean phone you can use.  I'll see you in a few minutes."

Velocity hung up the phone as she looked over at Katie.  “Okay, we have somewhere that will be better to wait than out here on a hard bench.”   She said with a smile.  Picking the younger girl up again, she was off once more, speeding off towards Greg’s house.  Once she arrived there, she ran over the fence and into the backyard, looking for any sign of Greg and the studio he had mentioned.

A sound from near the pond drew Velocity's attention and she watched as a hatch in the ground opened up and Greg climbed up out of a hole.  "Hi."  He said, looking down into the hole.  "Grandpa had a bombshelter put in back in the sixties.  I've been using it as a studio since I was about ten."  He comes over and hands Velocity a cell phone, "The phone you asked for.  You can toss it when you're done if you like."

Velocity smiled at Greg as appeared.  “Hey.  That is pretty convenient.”  She said as she looked down the hole.  She then glances over at Katie.  “Oh yeah, Katie, this is Greg.  Greg, Katie.  I shouldn’t be gone too long, need to go grab something I owe you.”  She put a finger on Katie’s nose as she spoke.  “Then I’ll be right back till the others get here and we can figure out what to do next.” 

She looks back to Greg as she holds up the phone.  “Thanks, I’ll be back in a few.”  As she started off, she gave Kevin’s number a call on the cellphone.

"Kiernan."  The response was terse, and Velocity could hear sirens nearby in the background.

“Kevin, its Velocity.  Just wanted you to know I have somewhere to keep Katie hidden for the moment till something for the rest of the night can be worked out.  I am heading back to the precinct so if you could find a quick chance to have someone put the bear I left with you down at the front desk that would be great, I think Katie will want some company tonight.  It sounds like your busy, but I wanted to quickly add, I ran into that guy Spark I told you about, he attacked me and said he was behind those Speed Freak imposters.  Don’t know if that’s true or not, but I had to break off from fighting him and he vanished before I could find him again.  I just went back to looking for Katie then.”

"Okay.  I'll take care of it and I'll talk to you tomorrow about Katie."  the line clicks oss abruptly after that.

Velocity shakes her head as she speaks to herself.  â€œOnce again you don’t have a way to reach me Kevin.  For a cute and seemingly on the ball guy, you can be a bit scatterbrained sometimes.”   Well, maybe he will call this cell number?  She thought to herself as she puts it into her belt pouch with the marbles.

Running to the precinct, she rushes in, stops just quick enough for the officer on duty to see her and get the bear from behind the desk and hand it to her.  She is then off once more, running at full speed back towards Greg’s, but this time taking a bit of an indirect rout to throw off anyone that might be possibly following her.

Katie is smiles immediately when she sees the bear.  "Oh thank you."  she says, clutching him tightly.

Velocity smiles warmly at Katie’s reaction to the new bear.  “I told you I would get you a new one, and I don’t like to break my promises.  And this one is one hundred percent tracking device free.”

Standing back up, she stretches her tired muscles some, she holds up her right hand and begins to gingerly take off the scorched glove covering the hand that she had punched Spark with, leading to some nasty shocks that had left burn marks up her right arm.  She looked over towards Greg as she asked.  “You don’t happen to have a first aid kit with burn ointment do you?”

"Actually, I do."  Greg goes to get a large tackle box marked First Aid from a nearby shelf.  "You'd be suprised hiow many burns you get on the set of an indie film.  Espacially when Dave tries his hand at special effects."

Greg helps her get the ointment from the case, "You want me to do these on your back?"

“Do tell.”  Velocity says with a smile at his mention of the burns cause by Dave’s special effects.  When Greg offers to get some on her back, she gives him a sly smile.  “Such a gentleman.”  In a flash, she takes the ointment, and applies it to the back of her right hand and fright forearm.  She then turns away as she unzips the front of her costume and rubs some on the red spots on her stomach from the last blast Spark had hit her with.  She then slid her costume off her shoulders and down to her lower back as she had her sports bra unhooked in a spilt second so it would be out of the way for Greg.  Looking back over her shoulder, she held the ointment up with her left hand.  “Here you go.”

Greg applies the burn cream and relates a few amusing tales of Dave and special effects, which ended in minor burns but major laughs.  Laughs which Greg still has on film.

"None of these look too serious, but you might want to keep an eye on them just in case.  Seems like you're all having a busy night."

Velocity laughed at Greg’s stories, but was wondering what the hell she had to do to get a real rise out of him.  “Well, maybe I can see those sometime.”  She replies. 

When he finishes, her costume is back on and zipped up in a moment as she replies.  “Yeah, I ran into this jerk named Spark who I met over a week ago rolling drug dealers.  While blasting me with electricity, he claimed to be the mastermind behind those drug using prostitute imposters that were doing the same.  I just cut out when he though he had knocked me out on a rooftop with the blast to my midsection and went back to looking for Katie.”

"You have interesting friends."  Greg says simply.  He fetches some bottled water from a mini-fridge for the three of them.  "So the people after Katie are apparently searching the city for her.  She must be pretty important for them to be so visible about it all."

“He is not a friend.”  Velocity replies with a scowl.  She takes the water when offered, not having realized just how thirsty she was after all the running and other stuff she had done tonight.  

She looks over at Katie, as she replies.  “Well, based on what her and Colin have said, she is very lucky and can see the future at times.  They chased her all the way here from Kansas to get her, so scouring the city doesn't seem that farfetched.”  She was about to lift the bottle of water to her mouth when she stopped herself and though that something seemed a bit odd here.  Looking back over at Greg, she asked.  “Didn’t Colin tell you any of this?”

"He mentioned some of it, but lacking anything else to base a conversation on I figured I'd start simple.  If you'd rather we could discuss the destruction of organized athletics and the decay of public education.  Or the weather."  Greg says, adding a smile at the end.

“Nah, those sound boring.”  Velocity replied as she sat down and propped her chin on her hand.  “Tell me more about that science you said you were very interested in.  What was it called again?”

Greg's phone ringing brings him from his chair to the desk, "Yeah?"  He looks at Velocity for a minute and then down at his desk.  "So everyone is okay?"  He nods, "Cool.  See you when you get here."  He hangs up.  "Well, That was Dave.  The fight is over and they should be headed back here in a few minutes.  You plan on sticking around I take it?"

Behind her goggles, Velocity narrowed her eyes at how Greg was able to dodge her question.  “Yeah, I am, we need to find something to do with Katie for the night.”

Getting up, she moved over to where Katie was sitting with her new bear and sits down next to her. “So, come up with a name for him yet?”

"Not yet."  Katie said.  "Something will come to me though."

Velocity laughed as she replied.  “I am sure something will.”  Getting back up in a flash, she was suddenly back over by Greg as she looked down into his eyes.  â€œBy the way, you never answered my question.”

"The one about kinesetics or was there another one I forgot?"  He smiles.

Velocity returns the smile.  “Yeah, that one.”  She glances down at the desk to make sure there are no textbooks or anything on it about kinesetics sitting there.  If there is one, she will quickly pick it up and look back up at him as she sits down on the desk, fi there isn't she will still sit down on the desk and look back up at him.  “Tell me some more about it, like how exactly it is able to identify certain movements and the like.”  While she asks him, she wonders why she would far rather it turn out he was some sort of imposter rather than not interested in her.

Greg sets down at the computer and starts it up.  He opens several pictures, some yearbook shots, some form the school paper and some stills of the video of Velocity.  Then he opens some video files, the Velocity footage, some of the cheerleading swuad from half time events and school rallies.  "Ok, if this gets boring, stop me."  Greg proceeds to explain the basics of kinesetics, and how the motions and physical habits of people are like finger prints.  He shows her the comparisons between her in the school videos and the Velocity footage, and certain idicyncratic behaviors she has when she stops to stand and talk with someone.  He shows her a half dozen little tells that are distinct because of her cheerleading and some becasue of her personality.

"And there it is.  I originally got interested in it as a way to compare modern actors to old film stars.  Watch their habits and look at the tells.  then I'd look at people I knew who did stage work and see if I could spot a good actor, with regards to their precense and how they carry themselves.  There is a similar science involving voices, but it's more useful for isolating personality elements."

Megan moves over to stand behind Greg, leaning in and watching the explanation with rapt interest.  He sure seemed to have put work into this, it was pretty amazing.  When she finally speaks, it is in her normal voice.  “That is really amazing.  I should get you some footage of that jerk Spark somehow so you can see if you can’t figure out who he is, though I guess it would only work if you have things to reference to.”

Glancing around the studio once more, she then moves to sit back on the desk and looks back down at him.  “So, if you could direct your dream movie.  When you had no constraints in regard to budget, time, or acting talent, that is actors alive or dead.  If you had complete control over the script, written by someone else of course.”  She adds the last part with a little grin.  “What would it be like?”

Greg begins tapping away at his keyboard, closing the current files and opening others.  "Not sure.  A movie is like a melting pot of elements.  You have a script, and you see it a certain way.  You try to hone that vision into parts, like who should play who, stuff like that.  That question is one that a director usually can't answer.  There are people I'd like to direct, and writers who I enjoy, but I honetly can't answer that question.

He finishes opening his new files and Megan notices there are some pictures of Spark.  "Unfortunately I can't answer the Spark question either."  He turns back towards the monitor.  "I can tell you he probably doesn't attend Oak Park.  If he does he's managed to never get his picture taken.  I've got some friends getting me the files from the yearbook classes from the other area high schools, so I might get lucky."

Megan was rather disappointed by Greg’s answer, well, not really what he said for she could understand the answer, but by his total disregard for the fact she was letting him know she was interested in learning about the things important to him.  Well, your loss pal.  She thought before her eyes widened at the pictures of Spark on the screen.

“Where the hell did you get those!”  She asked.

"Dave knows a guy that does tech support for the Chicago PD.  He got them off their server and gave them to Dave who in turn gave them to me.  I'm just waiting for the stuff to come in from the other schools.  It's not fool proof, but maybe I can give you a lead to follow or something."

Megan laughs lightly as she says, “fake ID’s, clean cellphones and now footage from the Chicago PD.  I think you and Dave have a calling with the CIA or NSA.  But that would be great if we can.  I would like to put that jerk behind bars.  Its only a matter of time before he really hurts someone innocent.”

"I'll make sure it's at the top of my super hero to-do list.  Ironically, all the things we're doing for ggod are stuff that criminals do all the time.  The duality of the situation interests me."

“Well, there are those out there that would say there is little difference between what the CIA and NSA do and criminals.”  Megan replies with a grin.  “But anyway, it is pretty interesting.”

“So, no dream movie.  What are some of the actors you would like to direct?  Or would have liked to have directed when they were alive?”

"Well, that's much easier."  Greg says with a smile.  "Jimmy Stewart and Jack Palance.  Gene Hackman is another actor.  As for actresses, Murna Loy, Sally Field, Marlene Dietrich.  I have a weakness for anyone that can do comedy because they're usually better actors since comedy is som much harder."

Megan smiled as well as she listened to Greg’s answer.  “Well, I have to admit that I haven’t really seen many too many movies with most of those.  Maybe I should look at some older movies sometime.”

"I'd be happy to arrange for some showings."  he says, "Always nice to show people that there is more to movies then special effects."

"So, everyone knows my aspirations.  What about you, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

Megan smiles at the mention of Greg showing her some of the old movies with some of his favorite stars.  “We will have to do that then, quite a few openings in my schedule these days, particularly the large blocks that were set aside for homework, I get so much more of that done in such less time these days.”

When he turns to asking about what she wanted to do with her life, she shrugged as she answered.  “Is there really anything left to dream for now?  I’m a superhero!”  She held her arms out to the side as she made her point, and grinned.  Then she dropped her arms and her face became more serious.  “But really, I don’t have some grand design or plan.  Just to do well in school and go to the best college I can manage, most likely Princeton.  I am not sure I would want to go into law, because I have see how much that can absorb your life, and it seems like a lot of effort for something you might eventually leave.  I have thought about maybe advertising or something like that, but no true plans.”

“Ultimately though, I would see myself leaving whatever I do once I have children, so I can be a mom.  I have always really respected my mom for how much she has been there for us over the years.  We have had some nannies, but they were mainly just to help mom out, not completely take over raising us.  So many other kids from wealthy families I have known were practically raised by their nannies, even when their moms didn’t work.  So I would want to do that for my children, and be there to support my husband in whatever he is doing.”

“Least, that has always been how I figured things would go.  Now,” she glances down at her Velocity costume, “I’m not so sure how this has changed things.”

"Yeah.  The few superheros that seem to have families never really get away from the celebrity aspects.  Talk about something that can consume your life."

Megan sighs at Greg’s comment.  “Yeah, that is exactly what I don’t want to have happen.  It’s fun being Velocity, well, most of the time, like when I am not being electrocuted by some crazy jerk.  And I like helping people, like Katie.  But when I take this costume off, I want the normal me to be, well, normal.  I want to have fun and go to parties and all the other stuff teenagers do and not have to think about being Velocity for a bit.  I really don’t want to reach a point where the two sides blend too much.”

"That sounds like it'll be harder then most people might think.  I guess that's the real trick that maturing teaches us.  We still have problems, but we don't let them rule us.  The same has to be true about being a super hero I guess."

“Well,” Megan began, thinking about all the craziness that had happened since the accident at the labs.  “so far it has been working out pretty well.  But lately things have been a bit different.  I think part of it was this thing with Katie.  Ever since she was taken by those goons, I have been desperate to do something to help.  The world has seemed to be moving so slow, while I was moving at top speed, but not getting anywhere.”

She went quite a moment and then continued, her voice a bit lower.  “Its like with Cal’s departure, I know it has been five days, but to me it seems to have been so much longer.  When I was at home crying about it this weekend, I would just let myself go, and one hour felt like ten, two like twenty and so on.  I know it sounds almost cold, though believe me it didn’t feel that way, but I have gone through all the heartache and am ready to start over.”

"Relationships are hard enough without super powers.  I'm sorry it's so tough.  If you ever need a break from being alone, you can always call me."

Megan had a slight grin as she replied.  “Oh, I will be sure to take you up on that.”  She then paused a moment and asked.  “So, what about you Greg?  How do you think you are going to be able to hold up as the confidant of superheroes and problem solver in their crime fighting?”

"I'm sort of looking at it as part of my filmmaking career.  Exposure to new and complex social ideas, and experience at how criminals operate in the world.  Besides, even if we manage to stick together for all of high school, we'll be going our seperate ways at some point.  It'll be just something I look back on fondly.  You guys are the ones that have to live with your powers and all the things that come with them forever."

Megan nods her head rather solemnly at the mention of her and the others having to live with their powers for the rest of their lives.  She wonder if that was true for her, as her power came from science, perhaps it could be taken away the same way.  But all she said in response was, “Yeah, they will be sticking around.  And your right, someday things will change and life will really come upon us.”

“But that is why I plan on having as much fun as I can in High School!”  She says as she suddenly she had a big smile and hopped off the desk and spun around twice in a dance pirouette.  When she stopped, she looked at Greg and added.  “And I better not see my story in some movie, least, not without some royalty rights.”
