It's only a few minutes before John finds Megan.  He smiles as he comes up, "Don't think I didn't spot that little twirl you did when you were leaving.  I'm obtuse, not blind."

They begin to head towards Megan's place and for a minute John is quiet, then he takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.  "I just had a talk with Colin, and it got me to thinking that I should maybe tell you something about myself.  I'm a little nervous though, it's not something I'm used to sharing with people."

Megan had been waiting over near the entrance to the locker rooms on the now empty field as John came up.  She smiled back as he approached, and when he mentioned the twirl of her skirt she gave him an innocent look.  “I don’t know what your talking about, but I swear these skirts sometimes seem to have a mind of their own.” 


Megan had been walking along quietly, thinking of ways they could get the set up done tonight with John being there when he mentioned talking with Colin and having something to tell her.  The blond teen was not quite sure what to make of the statement, given the fact that somehow Colin and the other seemed such a beacon for weirdness.  “Oh?”  She replied as she stopped to look at him.  “If your nervous about it, maybe your not quite ready to tell me?  Is there some reason you have to tell me now?”

"Well, maybe it's in the interest of full disclosure.  I like you, and I'm thinking of maybe asking you out.  Relationships are based on trust, and there is something that I think, in the interest of your safety and feelings you should know.  I get the impression if we started seeing each other, you'd get the idea I was hiding something if I don't tell you.  I guess I'm just trying not to sabatoge any chance we might have to be close is all."

Megan felt her pulse quick despite herself, how much of it was from John saying he liked her or the talk about keeping secrets she was not sure.  She kept her demeanor as calm as she could as she smirked slightly and replied, “thinking of asking me out?’  You kind of already did last night when you asked what I was doing Saturday night.”  But then her expression became more serious as she continued, “but I like you too John.  So if you feel this is than important, I am willing to listen and be understanding.”

John takes another deep breath and lets it out slowly.  "I have super powers."  There is a long pause and he looks around for a moment, then back at Megan.  "Does that freak you out?"

Though she had almost a feeling about what he was going to say, Megan can not help but look a little surprised, but then she smiles as she replies, “it might have once, but not after the way this year has gone.  You at least are willing to tell me what some might feel was something to be ashamed of, so I guess that helps make it easier to trust you wouldn’t try to hurt me with them or anything.” 

As the spoke, her mind was working over time trying to think about whether she should tell him about her powers or not.  A part of her was still fearful of the effect that word of that getting out might have on her father and his aspirations.  But she also thought about how she had learned from the others that Calvin had had powers, and she could not help but wonder that if they had know about each other’s powers they might have had a bit more reason to spend a little more of the time they had together.  There was also the fact that John seemed pretty serious about the trust issue, which was something Megan knew was important for relationships, and the last thing she would want was to mess up any chance because she was not open either.

Glancing around, she realized they were near the park she had gone to when she had first tested out her powers.  It seemed almost too fitting as she focused back on him, her smile widening.  “No, it doesn’t freak me out.”  She said, as she started into the park, waiting for him to follow as she asked.  “What are you able to do?”

"Lots.  When I was little I was really strong.  As I got older I got more and more powers.  I actually somehow inherited them from my grandmother.  The girls in the Danvers line have had these powers since the 50's.  I'm the first boy to have them, it's a little strange."

“Since you were little?”  Megan asked, slightly surprised, never having heard (in her limited knowledge on the subject) of paranormals having powers when they were young.  “So there are others in your family that have superpowers?  Anyone famous?”  She asked as she came to a halt in a small section of the park that was deserted. 

Once he answers, the blond teen glances over at a lone oak tree standing in the distance.  She looks back at John as she grins.  “How about a race to that oak?”

"Sort of.  All the Super Girls, and Captain America."

OOC: Super Girl married Captain America after WWII.  She was based in chicago until she left with her husband Steve Rogers and moved to Texas.  There have been many Super Girls since, and they are all girls decended from that line.


John chuckles, "Okay, but I'm pretty fast."

“Sort of?  I am not much of a hero buff, and even I have heard of them.”  Megan replied with a grin.

When John agreed to the race, warning her he was pretty fast, she simply said.  “Well, don’t feel like you need to hold back on my account, I’d like to see a power up close.”  She looked over at him and started, “ready?  Set!  Go!” 

At “go”, she was off at full speed.  John wasn’t lying, he was pretty quick, but Megan was still faster, and even over such a short distance, it was enough for her to reach the tree first by a second or two, which to her seemed like a good amount of time.  She looked up at him with a grin as he reached the tree next.  “You are fast, but not fast enough.”

"Wow."  he said smiling, "You're pretty fast."  His smile broadens and he looks her in the eyes.  "I appreciate you sharing that with me."

OOC: Megan is roughly twice as fast as John.

Megan meets his gaze unblinking.  “Yeah, but that is pretty much all I do.  But how could I not let you know?  Like you said, honesty is important for trust.”

"Yeah."  John says, "We better get to your house, before the other Con Debate guys.  wouldn't want them to wait for us, espacially as fast as we are."

Megan chuckles as she steps away and starts back on the way towards her house, but she knows she is not quite done yet.  “Yeah, it wouldn’t do to be fashionably late to your own party.”

She pauses a moment and then adds, “but, to continue with honesty, though this is not fully my secret, I have something to tell you about this meeting.  Remember last night when you were asking about the strange stuff that was happening around her lately and I mentioned the photographer that was somehow getting pictures of girls in the locker room showers?”  She looks over and up at John and after he nods or replies, she continues, “well, the meeting tonight isn’t just about going over our debate last night.  It is also to set up for an attempt to catch the guy this weekend. . . using me as bait.”

"Wow.  You fight crime too.  Cool."  his smile drops some, "I can stick around, as back up if you think you'll need it."

Megan chuckles slightly.  “Yeah, I fight crime some, how effective I have been is questionable, though the media seems to think I might be something special for the moment, though I have done a bit less of late.”

“But this thing isn’t about me, it is kinda for Brendan, and something I think he needs to do.  Laura told me after our first meeting that a few years ago his girlfriend was murdered, and that really seemed to do a number on him.  She says he is rather protective of women, one of the reason he wants to catch this photographer.  Based on what they have been able to figure out, the guy is invisible, so they needed to get him in a controlled area.  I turns out that in addition to taking pictures in the girls’ showers, he has gone into a couple girls’ bedrooms for ‘specials’ and gotten pictures of them there.  So tomorrow, Brendan is going to request a special on me that he wants by Monday, so this perv will have to come after me this weekend.”

“Friday I have a date, which I arranged early this week by the way, that is mainly to keep me out of the house till after midnight, to hopefully deter him from trying for the shots tomorrow night.   Thus we hope to have him try for the shots Saturday, and Brendan will be hiding downstairs in an unused part of my parents’ house to collar him when he shows up.  I think Brendan needs to catch this guy, and in a way, ‘protect’ me, to help him some with feelings of guilt he might have about his girlfriend’s death.”

She stops and looks at John.  “So, while I really appreciate your offer for backup, it might not be easy to set that up.  Unless you have other powers you haven’t mentioned.  But overall, I would like to try to let Brendan be the hero in this.  This is also why you can’t tell anyone else.  Only the Con Debate group knows right now, and it should stay that way I think.”

"Ok."  John says with a nod.  "Maybe I shouldn't come over then, so you don't have to dance around it.  You guys can plan and I'll just try not to worry.  Cool?"

“Well, the planning is pretty much done, tonight would just be setting up some thermal cameras and some other things so hopefully they can get images of him as well as collaring him.”  Megan replied.  “But it might be easier, but if your willing to play a bit oblivious, it might not be a problem.” 

Looking back into his eyes, she adds, “I am looking forward to going to the after game party with you Saturday night John, and, as you now know why, I will kinda have to cut it shorter than I might otherwise.” 

"Not a problem.  There's crime fighting to do."  He looks at his watch, "Probably best I go home then.  I need to have a chat with the folks and do my homework.  I'll see you tomorrow, I hope?"

Megan smiled at John’s understanding of things, though she still felt a bit bad.  “Oh, you’ll see me tomorrow, count on it.”  She said with a grin.  “By the way, the others on the Con Debate team don’t know I’m Velocity, neither do my parents, only Colin and a few others.”

She then stepped in close and on her tip toes, giving him a kiss on the cheek.  Looking into his eyes, she said, “for being understanding about everything, as a promise for a real date another time, and an ahead of time apology for cutting things short Saturday night, though I am sure it will still be a wonderful time.”  She pauses a moment before adding, “but speaking of making up for it, I don’t know if you have heard yet, but on the 27th there is going to be a big Halloween party and the date I had for that sorta fell through.”

"Fell through.  Darn."  John says with a smile, "Where will you find a replacement at this late hour.  OH!"  He raises his hand and hops up and down, "Pick me, pick me."  He drops his hand and stops hopping, "I recently heard there was a Halloween party coming up, would you like to go as my date?"

Megan could not help but giggle at John as he hopped up and down.  She stopped as he asked her to the Halloween party, and she looked up and to the side for a moment as if in deep thought as she playfully said, “well, I suppose since you just moved into town…” she then focused back on him, “I would love to.”

"Great.  We'll work out the details later on.  I'll call you, tonight maybe."  He smiled, "I should get going, I need to talk to my folks."

“Okay.”  Megan says with her own smile.  “I’ll be around, have some homework as well, but then, twenty minutes . . . three hours of homework done.”  She says with a snap of her fingers and a wide grin.  She nodded as he mentioned needing to be going, which she did as well.  “Yeah, me too.  I’ll talk to you later.”  She hesitates a moment, but then manages to get herself moving off towards her house once more, though she did turn after a short distance to wave goodbye with another smile.
