The October air is brisk, and it looks like it might rain, but there is a decent crowd in the stands and the game is going well.

Donnie had promised to be there and Sylvia was keeping an eye out for him.  Megan and Kel both notice that she's a bit more enthusiastic today then on prior game days, and the crowd seems to be into it also, with the cheers for the team from the stands at an all time high.

Many of the Usual Suspects were there today, and the team seemed to be doing well.  John was getting sacked almost every other play, but the Huskies seemed to be doing well despite this.

All in all the day seemed to be going well.  First the success with Darla and now the general high morale of the team and joy of the crowd.  Things were certainly looking up.

We don't do this for everybody, but somehow word got out that the new quarterback is a really nice guy, and it seems that now he has his own theme music.  Its not at all obnoxious, its more like an audible pat on the shoulder.

Donnie struggles through the crowd. The first period was over, evidently (Quarter, not period, dummy) and his back was killing him from that sharp blow Jack had given him for overextending his overhand sword strike once again.

Dead again, Donald. I am not here to coddle you, boy. You need to learn this, and fast, if things pop up like the Lordling again. You have an important legacy to fulfill, and I don't think you have enough time to learn it. Jack prowled around Donnie like some grizzled hunting cat, bokken tapping the polished and pitted wooden floor. The blonde teen was on one knee, teeth gritted through the pain. That one's totally gonna bruise.  As Jack passed, Donnie leaped up with an underhand strike that Jack stopped inches from his ribs. Much better.

An upperclassman jostled Donnie, smelling of beer and nachos. "Watch it frosh." Donnie squelched a sudden stab of fury, and pasted a smile on his face. Donnie says "Sorry, man" but the guy was already gone in to the crowd. He pushed forward to the front and looked at the roaring crowd. Geez! Is it like this every game?

He spots the band and remembers that's where the Usual Suspects usually sit near. He marches towards them, half watching the game, then sees her.

His cheeks flush and the world fades to a dull roar as he sees Sylvia in the cheerleader's outfit for the first time. Oh. My. God. That is totally why guys have cheerleader fantasies. Sylvia was dressed like all the rest, but somehow, she seems to just glow amongst the girls on the squad. Kel and Dallas flip her up, and she executes it perfectly, dropping with sharp precision on Kel's extended hands, showing off the tanned length of leg and thigh as she lands. Surprisingly, Donnie finds himself reacting to the show, and he was suddenly desperately glad that it was cold and heavy coats were being worn. He heads towards the band, hoping that Sylvia will see him there and silently begging for it to fade.

He waves to Colin and Sarah, standing in front of Greg and Dave, who seem to be arguing again and ignoring the game. Colin squeezes Sarah's hand as he drops to the field, camera in hand. Colin Crow, Daily Planet. Donnie shouts a hello as he nears, but the intent young man was already concentrating on his photography. Donnie squeezed up into the stands next to Sarah, who was elbowing Dave to shut up about some sci-fi movie.

"HI SARAH! IS IT USUALLY THIS CRAZY?" Donnie shouts as she pulls him up the bleachers.

Megan was glad to see Sylvia getting into things more as the blond teen led the squad through the routines she had reworked for their current roster.  They were all shouting the cheers and rooting the team on, and the crowd seemed to really be getting into it.  Megan loved the energy that was in the air, even more so given the help they had given Darla earlier that day. 

She called for Kel and Dallas to perform several basket tosses at various times, getting tossed up herself a couple of times.  For the first toss, she performed a straddle split and finished with a front flip before laying out to land in Kel and Dallas’ arms, not even thinking about the compromising situation she had seen the two of them in a few days ago.  For the second toss, she performed a full twisting laid out backflip to again be caught by the two guys on the squad. 

For one partner stunt, Dallas tossed the blond teen up into a Statue of Liberty, Megan’s left knee coming up as her right foot landed on Dallas’ hands.  She stood up there for a few moments, calling out some cheers before she signaled to Dallas and he dipped his knees slightly before popping Megan up into the air, the blond teen laying out into a full twist and landing in Dallas’ arms, her left arm caching around his neck.

Most of the time, she was keeping an eye on the game, and calling out various cheers depending on how the momentum of the game was going.  When timeouts were called, she led the girls through the various dances they all knew down pat, their bodies moving in perfect sync.   

When Sylvia spots Donnie it's like she suddenly has a new reason to shake it.  The caffeine she slammed to stay perky through the evening has her bouncing like a bunny, and the brilliant stadium lights and roaring crowd mush together in her head like TV static.  All she hears is Megan calling out the cheers and then the familiar strains of their dance routines.  When "Sexyback" starts to play, she's playing directly to Donnie:  the sleep deprivation and overexertion of the past twenty-four hours have loosened her up like two shots of vodka.  That and a chaser of guilt have her striving to be teh BEST GIRLFRIEND EV4r.

"Dirty babe," Justin Timberlake sings/chants through the home team sound system.  "You see these shackles?  / Baby, I'm your slave. / I'll let you whip me if I misbehave. / It's just that no one makes me feel this way. . . ."  The grinding pop rhythm plus Megan's choreography make for a saucy routine to say the least, but tonight. . . .  Tonight there's something extra running through the audience.

Maybe it's in the water.

"WHAT??"  Sarah asks before actually figuring out and shaking her head.

"NO!  JUST EVERYONE IS R..." She notices the crowd has died down a bit.  "I think everyone is kind of relieved there's been no sign of superman on the field tonight.  That and it's  been tight.  They've been clobbering john but he just gets up for more.  His helmet went bouncing away once.  Glad he's tough but if the front line doesn't get it together his resilience is going to get noticed."

She grins at Donnie and gives him a nudge and nods down towards the cheerleaders.  "You just here for the half time show?"

Donnie looks back at the field, looking for John, just to see him slammed once again by the defensive linemen. Donnie winces in sympathy. He leans into Sarah's ear and says "Good thing he's damn near invulnerable, because that would have effing hurt."

He cheers at the appropriate times, springs for a couple loads of nachos for the US once rejoined by Colin, and has quite a good time surprisingly. The Oak Park section was cheering like they had won the superbowl or something, and the air was electric. Donnie knew Sylvia saw him because she blew a kiss at him right before she executed a very impressive move that left Donnie a little short of breath. I didn't know she could bend like that.

Colin elbows him and gives a knowing smirk.

Then the halftime show begins as the marching band clatters away to begin their routine, the cheerleaders hit Timberlake's "Sexy Back", and the world nearly stops for Donnie. All that exists is Sylvia's gyrating form. Donnie can't even concentrate to form words in his head to describe the intensity o the moment. Faintly, like the scratching of a cat's paw at the back door, he felt concern from his dragons, but it was a whisper only in his head..

Sammy and Sarah notice that during the pep squad's Sexyback routine, it was hard for the males to sit still.  ALL OF THE MALES.  It was as though someone was showing porn on the jumbotron at an NFL game.

The standing ovation that the squad got afterwards lasted for three full minutes, and there seemed to be a slight sadness as the team took to the field for the second half.

OOC: None of the guys are able to report anything expect that they were watching the squad dance.

Sammy gapes in amazement at the crowd's reaction.  "If ever there was a time to use my trombone powers for good and knock one of them down -- just to break the trance of course -- it would be now.  And I'd probably be killed for it."  She looks around in the crowd to where she had earlier spotted Elrod.  He was drooling with the rest of them.  "Wow.  We'll have something to fight about after all.  Dammit!"  She looks around at the other girls who are all starting to notice what has happened, and yells out to the still coherent girls in the band "Quick!  We need to play something patriotic!  Nobody ignores the national anthem!  Maybe it'll snap these idiots out of their trance!"

She doesn't know if the music had any effect at all, or whether it was just because the routine ended, but finally things seemed to get back to normal.  Almost.

During the Sexyback dance routine, Megan was busy performing the dance, going with the Basement Jaxx style beat of the song and enjoying herself.  When they finished, the enthusiasm of the cheers from the crowd made her smile.  But after a moment, she realized that it was the guys in the crowd that were cheering, while girls had either puzzled or even angry looks on their faces. 

She did not quite understand what was going on, after all, they had done the routine at an assembly over a week ago and the reaction had been good, but nothing like this.  There was little time to think much more about it as the team came back out for the second half, and the blond teen lead the other girls back over towards the sidelines to take their positions once more.

A few minutes into the second half of the game, the excitement is high.  The Oak Park Huskies are having a close game, but John has finally got his blockers motivated to protect him so he's not getting clobbered anymore.  This pass could be a touchdown.  the ball is snapped, John fades back for the pass.  The ball is in the air!

The steel pole where the Huskie's banner is hung begins to fall forward, like a tree that's been cut down.  It's heading straight for the cheerleading squad, and will strike the formation at a diagonal, lilkely hitting most of the girls present.

OOC: The US group is too far from the squad to make it there before the pole hits them.  Actions?  I think Sarah is the only one entitled to act?

OOC: Donnie too. He made the check, and there's no way on earth he's gonna let something happen to Sylvia :)

Colin's the only one who made the first check, though Sarah came very close.

Donnie sees the pole begin to fall, and he roared in anger and fear for his love. His eyes swirled blue-gold-and green and Uther swirls into existance on the field, his eyes molten orbs. The dun-bronze dragon roars and charges the fallng pole to intercept it's fall, leaping in a charge, his hardened bone frill and horns aimed for the pole.

ooc: Summon minion, Hero point to let him act in the same round as summoned, if necessary.

The Dice Gods smile upon me today! Huzzah!

Uther's mass is airborne and the squad can't help but see the massive monster, and move.  There is a tuning fork like 'twang' as he strikes the pole, and it flies clear of the squad.

OOC: I need a fate roll from Donnie, and yes you spent the hero point to bring him into existance and allow him to act in a single round.

Sammy missed the beginning of the action, but there is no way she can miss a dragon materializing on the field.

Like she did when the boy was falling, she reaches out and grabs the falling pole, and tries to knock the cheerleaders to the ground with it tries to guide it gently down to the ground.

The pole goes up and away from the cheerleading squad, and Uther's momentum carries him through the tunnel under the bleachers and out of site.  That's when Sammy grabs the pole, guiding it over the bleachers and into the parking lot to a gentle landing, away from the crowd.

OOC: I assume that Uther is gone as soon as he's out of site?

And it's good!  Lance Harbor catches the pass and is in the end zone for the touch down!

That's when the attention of the players moves from the game to what happened on the sidelines.  The crowd is on their feet, but not for the play.  Several people are applauding and many have moved from the stands to see if the cheerleaders are allright.  Several stare in amazement at the empty passageway where the immense dragon seemed to dissappear.

John runs over to help Megan up from where she dove when Uther charged the squad.

Megan takes John’s hand with a smile at seeing that he was the first to arrive.  She had no idea what that dragon looking thing that had knocked aside the pool was, but the fact a pole had been falling towards the squad had her thinking the person that had hurt Diane was still at it. 

“Hey.”  She says to John as she gets to her feet.  She quickly looks around, confirming that all the other girls are okay and then a quick glance at the field.  Looking back up at John, she gave him a smile.  “Looks like you increased the lead.”

“Is everyone okay?”  She calls out, wanting to be sure they all are.

Uther is gone, with my mental thanks and promise of a large piece of bloody beef at my earliest convenience. Donnie clambers down to the field, heading towards the cheerleaders.

Although unable to react in a way that might have stopped the pole, the second Uther appeared your free hand grabbed your camera.  You have several excellent shots of him in the action.  Shot from the hip as it were, they're still very good.

John seems releived that Megan and the other girls are allright.

There is a bit of a crowd where the pole stood.  It's obvious at first glance that whatever happened to the bleachers happened to this pole also.  Someone dissolved it from one side, so that it fell over in the direction of the squad.

Megan takes one of John’s hands and squeezes it, giving him a warm smile.  “Thanks.”

She then looks around at the other cheerleaders and the people that had come down to see if they were okay.  “Thank you everyone, I think we are all okay.”  She yells out, trying to get things calmed some so the school officials could get things back under control and decided how next to proceed.  She calls the rest of the team over to get them all together, thanks people that she sees nearby. 

(ooc actually Kat, I think I wasted two good notice rolls for people - a 19 and an 18- when I rolled them without needing too :()

OOC: Althought you glided down, is glided down the right usage?  You got to the ground and to the pole before anyone got out of the stadium to see you gliding.  Also, the crowd gathered at where the pole stood, so you had several seconds before they came out to see it in the parking lot.

Sylvia doesn't look rattled so much as dazed.  The pole almost falling on them and the horse-sized thing that swooped out of nowhere to save them seem like just another sign that she's losing her grip on reality.  When Megan calls them over, she signals that she's going over to take a look at the post and jogs off to see what she can see.

OOC: Sorry... about ten minutes after my last post this morning? afternoon?  I curled up into a ball of wretchedness.  Naturally right before the action.  Just like when I was in school.  I always got sick on field trip day.

Sarah notices and screams down at the cheerleaders, "Meg! Sylvia!  MOVE!"  

That is all she can accomplish with the press of crowd around her. 

Watching Donnie and Sammy save the day makes Sarah scream and cheer with the rest of the crowd.  She hugs Donnie and kisses his cheek.  She gives Colin a hug and screams and cheers with the crowd.  Then it occurs to her that this was probably another intentional attack.  She starts scanning the crowds looking for someone particularly unhappy or trying to move out of the bleachers. 

Colin checks that nobody's hurt or in need, so he takes a quick look at the photos of Uther, then lets his digital camera rest around his neck.

"Sarah, let's go take a look, would you? Suddenly the game isn't that interesting anymore."

He begins to elbow his way towards the pole stump.
"Excuse me. I'm in the newspaper staff. Excuse me"
He takes some picture of it, then he casually puts a hand on it.

He's sure that their acid guy/girl can't have possibly gone too far.
I just need a little clue, he tells himself as his eyes scan the crowd around.

Everything stops.  The world's motion and flurry become a still frame.  The blackbird is there, sitting in the twisted stump where the pole once stood.

Colin feels no impressions, no insight.  There is too much malice.  There is nothing but a green haze that blocks out everything else.

Some wounds can't be healed Spirit Dancer.  Some madness goes too deep for even your power to save.

Then the world snaps back to normal.

"Uh-oh." Colin turns towards Sarah.

"We have a problem here. A big problem."

He takes another look around. Obviously things didn't go as the acid man planned. Colin searches for someone who looks really angry.

No one looks angry, as a matter of fact everyone seems to be in excellent spirits.

The Prinicipal, coaches from both teams and the referres come over and collectively ask the squad if they feel they can continue.  If not, they'll call the game and schedule a rematch.

"Sarah... I can't track it. It's as if it was someone too crazy, or too evil. My talents don't work."

He frowns, because he really doesn't like to feel so impotent.

"It scares me. Maybe we should tell the cheerleading squad to take a vacation."

Donnie finally reached Sylvia where she was analyzing the stump of melted pole and, taking her by the shoulders, he turns her bodily around and crushes her in a hug. He places his hands on either side of her face and kisses her soundly, ending it breathlessly. Sylvia can see green and gold leaking from his eyes back to the normal stormy blue. "Are you alright? If Uther hadn't hit the pole.."

He seems to be unaware of anything around him, but her face.

Megan works at getting the other girls focused back on needing to cheer, trying to motivate them all again.  She points out how great the game had been going and how much the crowd had been into things.  They should be proud that they were getting everyone’s spirits up so high, and that they should not let this deter them.  Unless the other girls seem completely unable to continue, she will tell Principle Landis, the coaches and refs that they are ready to go on.

Kel wandered in casually from one of the port-a-johns that had been set up.  While normally he would just watch the girls dance while they were dancing, he definitely had too much to drink before the game.  Of course, then he walks back into the stadium proper and sees everyone all around and the flagpole missing, everyone looking like something outrageous has just happened.  He smiles, must've been the change in score as he looks up at the scoreboard.  Once back with the rest of the squad he says, "Sooo, what happened around here?  I've never seen anyone get this excited for a touchdown before."

Sylvia smiles when she sees him and flings her arms over his shoulders as well.  She takes a kind of visceral comfort simply from his physical presence, and it seems to pull her into focus.  "Uther?  That was Uther?"  Then she catches his cheeks between her chilly hands and looks into his irises.  "What's wrong with your eyes?  What is that?"

After checking out the pole in the parking lot, Sammy jogs back into the stadium to take a look around.  She heads towards the broken base of the pole. "Ohmigod... do you know what happened?  It was the acid guy again, that's all I could figure out."

Colin tries to gesture to the others at the pole (Sammy, Sylvia and Donnie IIRC) to come where he and Sarah are.

In response to Sammy, he whispers "I think it's the acid guy too. He  hacked at the base of the pool as if it was a tree, and made it fall where he wanted. Uther has been great, Donnie, and... that was you Sammy, wasn't it? Good job.
We got a problem though. Usually, I can pick impressions off items because there is... how may I call it... A soul-print on them. The acid guy, or girl, whoever he is, is seriously disturbed. So much I can't even read him. It's beyond me. There's no telling how or when such a person would strike again. Keep your eyes open.
Sylvia, do you think the team should go on with the game?"

Megan looks over at Kel after talking with the Principle, coaches and refs.  “Where have you been?  We almost got flattened by a flag pole!”  She looks over at the girls.  “Come on, lets get back into this, we are winning!  York would love to call the game and replay.”  She says with a smile as she leads the girls over away from where they had been, back towards the middle of the bleachers and starts a quick school chant, hoping to get the crowd focused once more. 

“Let’s get fired up!”

“Number one!” 

Sylvia frowns.  "The person who did this is so, what, angry?  That you can't see what's going on?"  Her eyebrows knit together.  "But you were able to read Darla's imprint.  You can't possibly tell me that whoever's doing this is angrier at cheerleaders than Darla was at her attackers."

Later she answers the question.  "I guess?  The team's safe.  It's the pep squad we need to watch out for.  We're all here.  It's our best chance to catch her."  In Sylvia's mind, Candice is already guilty as sin.

Sammy notices that Colin still has his camera, that he didn't drop it in the chaos.  "Uh, Colin -- your camera?  You don't suppose you might have accidentally caught a picture of the person who did this, do you?"  She looks around.  "Do you see a camera crew from channel 26?  Sometimes they come here to get game highlights to show during the news.  If they're here, maybe they caught something.  Oh!  Hold on a sec! John!  Ask coach if any college scouts are here today.  He'll know.  They may have been recording the game to review later.  Its worth a shot."

"I didn't say angry. I said disturbed. I couldn't even pick a thought. There are degrees of madness even I can't cure."


"Sorry, that's what I meant. If you want to set yourselves as bait, it should be your choice."


"I... Let me check. It'd be different to tell on this small screen, though. I can only zoom so much. Maybe at home on the PC..."
He closely inspects the photos he's taken for any particular he may have missed. He also realizes he has taken many more shots of the cheerleaders than he intended to, and they don't seem as good anymore now. Weird.

"Yeah, Uther. My eyes? What do you mean? Is there something wrong with them?"

Sylvia has to squeeze her eyes shut for a second, and when she opens them, the strange coloration is just vanishing.  "They're different colors.  Like green and gold and maybe a little brown or something.  I'm probably just suffering from acute amphetamine psychosis."  She's quoting one of the abnormal psychology articles she's been reading lately.  "I drank a couple of caffeine tablets before coming out on the field."

She's still holding onto him, emboldened by the relative anonymity of the cheerleader uniform and the distraction of the game.  "Do you think Pip could scout up top while you and I look for Candice under the bleachers?"

Blink blink, go her eyelids.  She looks so innocent.

"Candice? Who is Candice?" Donnie asks, but doesn't really expect an answer.

Donnie is letting himself be led quickly away through the crowd, and he seems to have trouble concentrating on anything around himself.

Perhaps suffering from amphetamine psychosis.

OOC: I will assume that even though Sylvia wandered away that the squad as a whole acknowledged that they could continue, so the game resumes.

The band leader sends someone down to collect Sammy, and people go back to their seats.  The Principal has a couple of the uniformed security officers posted just behind the squad for the remainder of the game.

When the game resumes the enthusiasm has faltered a bit, but the crowd still seems excited about the game.  Play resumes and the rest of the game is uneventful (on the field anyway).

OOC SO, on page 3 I had posted that Megan was getting the rest of the squad back together and remotivated to continue and told the Principle that they would.  Then she moved then to a new spot and started some cheers to get the crowd refocused :)

Sammy has some trouble refocusing on the music.  She is still on alert, looking for somebody doing something not quite to be expected.  Thoughts race through her mind faster than Velocity can move.  What the heck was up with that trance every male in the crowd seems to have gone into just before the pole went down?  After the game, when the crowd has dispursed, she would like to look around to see if maybe there is some sort of (don't know the right word) gas dispenser that could have dumped a load of pheromones into the air.  It would have to be somewhere up high to get enough circulation, or-- here's a thought -- maybe yesterday's water bottle incident was a test.  Maybe the drinks from the vendors were contaminated with pheromones so that the guys would all react, and the girls would be distracted by the guys drooling.  Except the guys were all focused on the cheerleaders, not on the other girls in the crowd who were a lot closer and much more available.  Weird.  Unless...  oh, this could be bad. Very bad.  Suppose they're unrelated, and someone just took advantage of a moment?  The crowd were all focused on the cheerleaders doing that provocative dance number.  What if one of the cheerleaders had the power to enhance their appeal...  make everybody look and desire... Not Megan.  She's fast, not a mentalist... Sylvia?  I don't think she's doing it to attract the crowd on purpose, but maybe just to make herself look good for Donnie, and its bleeding over?  No wonder Donnie's been acting so loopy; he could be a victim of testosterone poisoning!  But how the heck do you find out if someone has Victoria's Secret Powers?

Sammy's performance is definitely sub-standard.

OOC: Yes, I know that.  I also know that Sylvia wondered off without giving an official IC answer, so I wanted to clarify this for continuity purposes.

Sarah sticks close to Colin.  "This crowd is packed.  We barely made it down here.. Is anyone struggling to get through?" 

Sarah uses her own camera and starts taking pictures of the crowd, starting around the base of the pole that fell.  and working outwards from there. 

OOC Ahh, okay.  Sylvia had signaled Megan she was going to check things out, so Megan figures she is looking into what happened.   :laugh:

Megan continued things, and even with the enthusiasm that had been present before, was very quickly back in the rhythm.  Though she was highly concerned over what had happened, she made herself focus on what was going on, trusting that the others to look into things. 

As she called out more cheers, she lead the team through the lunges and other steps associated with each cheer.

As Megan finished the cheer, she performed a high kick with her right leg and then immediately followed with a high straddle jump.

Final score for the game is Huskies 8, York 14.  York managed to pull it out in the last seconds of the game.

Even though it was a loss the crowd was still happy with the Oak Park showing for this game.  There are plenty of pats on the back for the team when the game is over.

OOC: Since there still may be things happen with Sylvia and Donnie I'll leave this thread open.  There will be a thread for the after game party and one for Sammy and Elrod as well as one for the peeping photographer.  I can start the photographer thread later, after the party has run for a little while.  I don't expect it to last very long (the photographer thread).
