Late on Sunday afternoon, Sammy asks to borrow her sister Stephanie's copy of last year's yearbook. 

She wants to look up Candice Bell and Laticia Culver, to see if maybe she recognizes their faces or if there's something in their bios that might send up a flag.

Her sister hands her the yearbook and then closes the door before Sammy leaves.  "So, I heard a rumor that you were at a club with Elrod Janush?"  Steph seems excited about the prospect.

Sammy smiles, and a slightly dreamy expression appears on her face.  "Yeah.  It was awesome."

"Awesome?  I want details you, the whole thing."  she hops onto her bed and pats a spot next to her, "Come on, spill it little sister."

Sammy sits down on the bed.  Its been a long time since her sister encouraged a conversation with her, so it feels a little strange.
Sitting indian-style on the bed, she grabs a pillow and hugs it to her chest.

"Well... he picked me up here.  Dad gave him the usual interview, then we went to an after-game party.  After a while, we cut out of there and went to listen to some music at a club -- awesome band!  Then we went to a dance club where there were all these guys who wanted to dance with me but El chased them off, which was totally okay with me because they really were _old_, you know, like, in their 20's, eew!  Then we went to a diner and got something to eat, then finally he brought me home."
The expression on Stephie's face is less than satisfied, so Sammy adds with a cheshire cat smile, "And he's a really good kisser.  The kind of kisses that make your toes go tingly and leave you breathless.  Homecoming should be fun."

"Dad didn't have a fit that El's a senior?  Man that is so unfair.  I want an older guy."

"Daddy told me to be careful, that's all.  He reminded me that three or four years is a lot of difference when you're 14, and that people change a lot.  I guess he's afraid I'll get my heart broken or something.  I couldn't figure out why El wanted to go out with me either, but then I quit worrying about it after a while.  Its not like I don't already know that he'll be going away, maybe for good, come next summer.  He'll go to college and I'll be stuck here in Oak Park."

"But you'll be stuck here with cool memories."  her sister says, "That's better then nothing."

Sammy giggles.  "Yep!  And maybe if the memories are good enough, I won't mind if he comes back around looking for me when I'm 20 and a couple years difference won't matter anymore."  She laughs again.  "So... I heard your date last night stunk.  Was it just a bad date, or was he really, you know, stinky?"

Steph rolls her eyes.  "It was less then thrilling.  He wanted to go to the movies and watch people get chopped up with a chainsaw.  we finally agreed on a comedy, and he had to go out twice to answer his phone, apparently his friends needed him so he wanted to know if I wanted to ride up to the city with him to pick them up.  I called it a night and came home."

"Yuck!  Well, better luck next time.  Maybe you ought to find a nice geek boy who will be so grateful to you for even looking at him that he'll treat you like a Queen.  That's my backup plan!"

She flips open the yearbook and starts flipping through last year's individual photo pages.  She finds Candice Bell's picture and points to it."OK, I do know who she is.  I heard she tried out for the cheerleading squad, even though she hates the whole idea of cheerleaders.  How weird is that?"[color]

Steph shurgs, "On the list of wierd this year, I'm not giving it more then a six.  Considering all the people acting out of character, is it really that big a deal?"

Not unless she's the one trying to get rid of them all, one by one...

Sammy shrugs.  "No, not really.  It was just gossip."  She keeps turning pages.  "This is the girl with the fake leg, right?  I heard she's really nice.  Do you know what happened to her?  Was there an accident or something?"

"Ah, she was asleep on the side of the road after a party and one of those giant highway mowing machines whacked her leg off at the knee.  She is pretty cool though, we have an economics class together."

Sammy gasps in horror and cringes reflexively.  "Oh my God!  She's lucky she didn't bleed to death! I guess she was out there all night then -- do they mow at night?  Unless they do, and that's why the driver didn't see her.  Ew, gross, gross, gross... "  Sammy quickly flips away from Laticia's picture, and finds her way to the Janush twins.  "They're so different.  Its hard to believe they're twins."

"Maybe they aren't!"  she says, "Maybe she's the illigitimate child of the housekeeper, and they just say they're twins.  Seems like anything is possible in this town anymore."

"That's just creepy."  Sammy flashes back in her mind to her comment to Elrod that maybe he was her secret half brother.  Not so funny now...

"Things have been really wrong, haven't they?  Has anything weird happened to you this year?  Its come real close to me a couple of times.  I mean, you heard what happened to Heather with those bees..."  Suddenly feeling guilty for no apparent reason, Sammy looks at her sister.  "I know we, uh, have our differences but... I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you.  I mean, its okay if we mess with each other, but nobody had better mess with my sister or they'll be getting a visit from me!"

Steph smiles and leans her forehead against Sammy's "Same here sis, except I'll employ Sophmore Roughians to do my dirty work."

Sammy laughs.  "No fair!" she exclaims. "You have an army of minions?  I want minions!"

"Eh, more like drooling fanboys.  They're minion like though."

"I want a fan boy army too!  Teach me, Mistress!  Then you'll have an army and a sidekick!  You could be de Mentor, and I could just be de Mented!"  Sammy collapses in giggles on the bed.
