When Megan makes her way into the busy lunch room, she made her way over towards the Usual Suspects table to take a seat next to John as usual.  She was getting tired of telling people about the photographer incident, which she had described at least a dozen times already today since the news that morning about the fact he had been captured in her house trying to get pictures of her.  She gave John a slight nudge as she sat down and then opened her backpack.

She set down some magazines in the middle of the table for everyone, another odd mixture, Home & Garden, Time, Newsweek and a few similar magazines.  For herself however, the blonde girl reached into her backpack and pulled out a stack of what looked like they might be magazines as well, but the top one read “Berkshire Hathaway Annual Report”, which she opened and began to read.

Kel arrives and settles into the Usual Suspects table.  He's busily looking about the cafeteria and then nods a hello to everyone, and then he spots what Megan's reading gesturing to it, "Uhhh...why are you reading that?"

Sammy is not in the cafeteria.  She is at school today.  Dave and Greg saw her this morning in the hallway.

Seth makes his way to the table...looking around busily for someone.

When he can't seem to find her he plops down with his meal tray.

'Whats up dawgs?"

John gave Megan a kiss on the cheek when seh sat down, "You look nice today."  when Kel asked why she was reading the magazine she had he tipped the cover so he could look at it, then looked at her.  "Yeah, what he said."

Seth makes his way to the table...looking around busily for someone.

When he can't seem to find her he plops down with his meal tray.

'Whats up dawgs?"

"She usually get in a little later."  Dave says to Seth as he sits down.  "She's a teacher's assistant for the class before lunch so she's usually a little late."

"OK" Seth said a little relieved...And with some fake chagrin he also replied. "I mean I don't know what your talking about."

Seth goes into his backpack and pulls out a honking textbook. "Finney, Demana, Waits, Kennedy, Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic, 3rd Edition"

It's the AP Calculus text book. The book of doom. The book only the seniors should have. The one that the students who do have complain about incessantly.

Seth opens up to a tabbed page and then gets his notebook out.

He begins to work on some problems. He finishes the first one without the benefit of a calculator in less than a minute.

John gave Megan a kiss on the cheek when she sat down, "You look nice today."

“Thanks.”  Megan replied with a smile, giving John a return kiss on the cheek.  He was apparently trying to work more on the boyfriend thing, and it seemed to be going well.  “You look good as well.”  She added with a grin.

When Kel and then John asked about the annual report she was reading, she looked at the pages she had it currently opened to, which had the company’s balance sheet and cash flow statements.  “Oh these?  Something my dad has started to get me working on.  Part of my ‘learning how to handle my money’ thing they started at the beginning of the year.  He sat down with me last night after you left and went over a few basic ideas on how to value companies and told me to take a look at a few of the holdings that are currently in my trust funds to see what I can figure out.  Ultimately he wants me to pick out three or four stocks that he will invest in with some of the money from the eventual settlement with Lawson Labs.”

She heard Dave mention something about some girl arriving later to lunch to Seth and Seth try to play it off as if he was not interested, causing Megan to smile slightly.

Sammy settles in to a practice room, sets up her music, and practices playing her trombone.  She signed out the key for the room, so she's there quite legitimately and not at all secretly.  Every once in a while she stops for some water and to listen to something on her iPod.

Kel stares at Megan's explanation, then looks at Seth's big math textbook and just sighs, "I think you're both nuts.  Great, intereesting stuff, but nuts."

Donnie comes in and plops his backpack down on the table. There is a small smile on his face and he slumps in his chair, looking utterly relaxed. He smiles beatifically at everyone. "You know, this is the first morning in almost a month that I have not cast a self protection spell to protect me from the witch'es magic? I have to stop myself about every three hours from doing it. I was casting it darn near every three periods or so. Every single day. I was so worried about them taking me out before I could get them first. I never realized how heavy that worry made me. Anyway, I feel great. Thank you all for helping me." Donnie gets up and goes to buy his food. He's nearly skipping.

Megan had simply shrugged at Kel’s comment that she and Seth were nuts, though she did agree that Seth seemed to be into some pretty advanced math there.  She was focused back on the annual report when Donnie showed up.  Looking over the report, she gave him a slight smile.  “No problem Donnie, thought I still am not entirely sure I did much of anything.”

Looking over at Kel, Megan flipped through some of the other reports that were stacked in front of her, pulling one out of the stack.  “Hey Kel, if you want something to look at, here is an annual report you might like, I almost didn’t believe it when my dad showed me it was one of my holdings.  Couldn’t help but think of you.”  She flipped the report out onto the table in front of him.  On the glossy cover was a picture of several guys riding through the American Midwest on large motorcycles, it was the annual report for Harley Davidson.

Kel makes a pfft noise, and says, "Ya know, I actually don't like Harleys or any American motorcycle."  He doesn't clarify exactly what he does like, but he picks up the copy of Time and begins flipping through it.

Looking up from his math homework after kinda zoning out there for a minute...

"Sorry Kel...Was Donnie just here?...

I have this Calculus Homework due later today...and I forgot to do it in the excitement of this weekend.

And if the Seniors get wind that the wvunderkid didn't do his homework....I'll never here the end of it.

Seth really shouldn't have been in this class to begin with. But it was the only one advanced enough for him...and he couldn't really wait two years till he was the same age as everyone else to take it. He didn't want to lose his math edge..

Kel looks up and shrugs, "I don't know, his stuff's here.  I think he stopped by and thanked us for something or other."

Title: Re: Chapter 32-1, Lunch Room

Megan shrugged at Kel’s response, slightly surprised but it did not really matter.  “Well, not as if I am a big Harley fan or anything, just a stock that has made a lot of money and pays good dividends to me.  My dad on the other hand I think wanted one during his ‘rebellious’ stage.”

“Yes, Donnie stopped by and thanked us again for helping him deal with the witches Saturday night.”  Megan replied to Seth, giving him a more solid answer than Kel had.  “He went to get his lunch.  We wouldn’t want you to fall behind against the seniors in your class, so get to studying.”  She said with a grin and went back to her reading.

"Well, we can't all do it at 10 million times speed now can we miss thing..." Seth says and adds a stuck out tongue to punctuate his retort.

He lets his tongue slip back into his mouth, and then goes back to doing his homework.

Seth isn't sure if it was coincidence, fate, or something more psychic, but he looked up just as Emma came into the linch room.  even dressed in street cloths she seemed to radiate something special.  She's standing near the door, looking around.

Sarah enters the lunch room and passes through the cafeteria grabbing a salad with some chicken and bacon bits and a juice.  She spots Donnie checking out and scoots in behind him.  "Hey there hero!"

A sophmore who had been waiting behind Donnie complains for a moment, "Hey!"  Sarah turns and smiles saying, "But you let me cut ahead of you.  It's no big deal."

The boy blinks and nods saying, "Whatever."

"Can I buy you a cookie for all the hard work you put in on the recent success?" asks Sarah.

Title: Re: Chapter 32-1, Lunch Room

Donnie grins at Sarah. "Hell no! Cookies are on me today." He shows Sarah his tray and has it piled high with various cookies, snacks, and the like. Plus his regulation two cokes. "Last night I totally felt you ought to have been at my house. The situation just had Wierdness Appropriate for Sarah written all over it."

He tells her of the visit from another dimension.

"Oh Donnie!  That's great and horrible all in one.  I mean, your mom is.. uh,"  Sarah's mouth shuts at this point with the realization that she doesn't know what to say about Donnie's Mom(s)

Shifting gears she asks another question, "Why is your alternate dimension Mom... alternating dimensions?  Does your mom here have a dimension hopper?  Maybe you should go check her coat pocket or something?  Not that we need to start hopping dimensions for life to get any weirder around here... or would that be there?"

Colin waits outside the lunchroom and gets out his phone to send Sarah a message.

Hi. I'm sending this to you because John hears too much and Megan asks too many questions. The police needs one of *them* to confess. Are you up for a chase after school?

Title: Re: Chapter 32-1, Lunch Room

Sarah grimaces, "As it is I'm relieved there haven't been any dragon related injuries at your house."

Sarah digs out her buzzing phone and looks at it.  She drops it back in her bag.

"Sorry," she apologizes.  "I guess you are right.  Makes you wonder though.  Maybe she lost hers?  Well I'm glad we've got you in this dimension Donnie.  We'd have had a knockdown fight on our hands with those witches without you."

She pauses and considers her last statement and adds, "Better not mention that possibility to Kel.  It will make him cranky that he missed out on a fight, even one in an alternate dimension."

---
After paying for her food Sarah makes a pit stop at the condiments and types back to Colin, Always

Sammy sits in the music room, trying to figure out what to do with the new information from Mr. Heep.  The easiest way to get to Fern is through another cheerleader.  She could get Elrod to grab something Fern touches if Fern visits Lisa... but then she might be putting Lisa in danger.  That wouldn't be cool.  Megan could do it though.

Megan's cell rings.

"Pinky ID'd.  Fern M!  Need ur help."

Title: Re: Chapter 32-1, Lunch Room
Post by: thevshi on March 20, 2007, 12:39:47 PM
Megan opened her phone when it rang quietly, taking a look at the text message, somewhat surprised by Sammy’s revelation.  She began typing a reply rather quickly as she said, “looks like Sammy got back some information from the fingerprints that have been gathered from Pinky.  It seems Pinky is none of the girls we suspected, but Fern.”  She sent the message as she looked at the blank looks most of the boys at the table had.  “Fern, the cheerleader that suddenly started making out with one of the slackers  here in the lunchroom earlier in the year.  You know, she got kicked off the team opening up the spot Sylvia filled?”

Sammy’s phone got a reply message.

"Sure thing.  Where r u?  Come to lunch room to plan.

Sylvia wanders into the lunch room, bag lunch in her hand.  Her hair is still purple, and she's reading The Complete Idiot's Guide To Meditation as she navigates into a seat near Dave and Greg.  "Hi," she says to the table at large and tucks into whatever mess Mitzi made her today.

Colin smiles receiving the message. He puts the phone away and enters the lunch room.

"Hi guys." he says approaching the table and taking a seat beside Sarah.

"Fern? Really? Well, it kinda makes sense. Sylvia knows where she lives, I think."

“I do as well, I did hang out with her for two months from the end of the summer up till she was kicked off the squad.”  Megan replied to Colin with a slight grin as she put down the Berkshire Hathaway annual report.  Checking her phone again as it rang again, she added, “Sammy's on her way to join us and we can figure out what to do next, she said something in her message about needing my help.”

Donnie comes back to the table and sits next to Sylvia, though not spae-sharingly close as he used to. He's being very careful.

"Halloo everyone. I got snacks and cookies for all."

He pulls out his two hamburgers and extracts them from the buns. He sets aside the soggy offending things and eats the patties by themselves, alongside a simple salad. He cannot seem to shake the coke addiction however, and swills down a glug with his Dr. Adkins approved lunch.

He keeps sneaking glances at Sylvia and her purple hair. It is obvious to everyone.

Sylvia smiles at him, sort of a hands-off smile that seems all the warmer and more sincere for having abandoned the puppy-love pawing.  "Are you the real Donnie, or are you Donnie-with-a-beard?"

Sammy puts on her game face and goes into the cafeteria.  She pulls over an extra chair from another table and slides it next to Megan.  "Hey."  She looks around.  A flicker of discomfort passes through her eyes as she scans past SylvianDonnie, but it is quickly suppressed.  "What's up?"

“Hey.”  Megan said with a smile.  “Not too much.  Seth’s got some heavy math homework to do, I was just reading balance sheets and cash flows,” she gestured to the annual reports in front of her, “several of the others just showed up, and now we’re ready to talk about what to do about Pinky, or Fern I guess we should say.  What is it you were needing?”

Title: Re: Chapter 32-1, Lunch Room
Post by: Kat on March 20, 2007, 01:56:57 PM
Sammy looks concerned.  "Fingerprints lifted from Candace's damaged locker match the one on the piece of bleacher metal.  Those fingerprints also match Fern's prints, but the way I know that would make the evidence no good.  We need to get prints in a way that can't be easily argued by a lawyer.  I thought maybe you could pick up a can of diet soda she had been drinking from, or trade lip glosses with her or something like that.  She knows you, and shouldn't suspect you of anything if you go up to her."  She toys with a notebook.  "Its get something that we can pass on to the police, or provoke her into a fight so that there's absolutely no question at all that she's Pinky and she's dangerous.  Unless you have another idea?"

Title: Re: Chapter 32-1, Lunch Room
Post by: thevshi on March 20, 2007, 01:58:19 PM
As Megan listened to Sammy as she explained the need to get fingerprints that they could use, her mind was working at top speed, thinking about Fern and how she could get what they needed.  It was only a few brief moments after Sammy was done speaking that she replied, “okay, I have a plan.  I had a reason to so see Fern anyway, but any of us that want to go can go along for back up and whatever.  I would at the very least need you John and you Seth.”

“I go up to Fern’s, while the rest of you wait nearby, John keeping an eye on me.  I get inside, talk with Fern about trying to get her back on the squad for basketball season, ask for a drink of water.  When she gets me the glass, I give John a signal, he tells Seth to ring the doorbell from afar, and while Fern goes to answer the door, I get the prints.  Then hopefully I can get out without a fight and we have the proof we need.”

"Sammy can always use the questionnaire sneak attack on her," says Sarah.  She holds up an imaginary clipboard reciting, "At lunchtime do you prefer A. Fruit, B. Candy or C. Anything as long as it is in corrosion resistant packaging?  When you're working out with a boy does he find your sweat, A. Sexy, B. Stinky, or C. Scalding?"

Looking up from the imaginary notes she shrugs, "I guess we could use some other questions.  Those might tip our hand a little bit."

Sarah smiles at Sammy and shakes her head, "You can't let that stop you... I've done that lots of times.  Matter of fact it wouldn't have been at all unusual for the person in question to be standing right behind me when I come up with one of those.."  She looks suspiciously over her shoulder.  "But not today fortunately."

She considers her imaginary clipboard, "On the other hand if we start walking around with a new survey or petition every week the baddies are going to catch on sooner or later."

She looks at Megan, "Sammy mentioned bringing evidence to the police.  If you walk out of her house with a water glass can they use that?  Why not just buy her a drink at a drive through or over at the tasty to meet and discuss the cheering.  Heck Colin could probably have Chris drop by the Tasty a little bit before to grab a late lunch unless you think that would spook her?"

Rubbing her chin she starts to over analyze the whole thing, "Then again they might catch on to the ol' stop by the Tasty for a beverage trick as well.  Think she'd like to swing by your place for a fingerpainting party?"

“hmm,” Megan considered Sarah’s statement about needing evidence the police could use.  “I guess that depends on if the police have opened a case on this yet.”  She looked over at Colin.  “Have you been giving the information gathered so far to Chris?”

"Sure she wasn't gunning for you, Sylvia?" Sammy asks.  "After all, you're the one who took her place on the squad.  You're also the one who was drawing all of the crowd's attention right when it happened.  Maybe she thought it should have been her up there, and was driven to do something about it."

“Yes, but in CSI, the evidence is being collected by the police and there is a chain of evidence to ensure it was appropriately obtained and hasn't been tampered with.”  Megan replied to Colin’s comment about gathering the evidence.  She was about to answer Colin’s comment about her being her friend and talking with her first when Sylvia mentioned her almost killing them at the game and Sammy responding.  “It might have been aimed at Sylvia, but it could have taken us all out if Donnie had not saved us.  And that doesn’t explain why she attacked Diane first, unless it was because Diane didn’t do anything to try to get her back on the squad like Lisa was planning to do.  But really Colin, Darla accidentally killed someone, Fern has been deliberately trying to harm and has deliberately harmed people.  I don’t think the why really matters anymore.  She has to be stopped and punished for what she has done.  I suppose we could gather the evidence, have it ready to give to the police and offer her the chance to turn herself in for leniency as well.”

Title: Re: Chapter 32-1, Lunch Room
Post by: opensesame on March 20, 2007, 02:55:47 PM
She shrugs at Colin, "I'm kinda with Sylvia on this one.  Somebody tries to kill me I'm not going to worry too much on their behalf.  Plus Darla's was an accident caused by a lot of horrible stuff being done to her.  Fern just got booted off the squad and dropped down a social rung."  Sarah pauses, with a confused look and continues, "Though that does beg the question - 'Why is she going after the cheerleaders and not the administration?'  I mean, she knows that the team fought for her and were upset about her being kicked off.  I don't think she was going after Sylvia specifically.  Besides, that doesn't explain the damage to Laticia's locker."

With a sigh Sarah says, "Aw crap, now I want to know what her deal is.  Though I'm willing to live not knowing if it means everyone can avoid a blast of acid.  I mean, the police can find out the reason more safely than we can."

"I might know why she's after squad members.  There's a chance she was touched by that love goo too, so maybe she's after whoever she thinks might have done it to her and had her kicked off the squad.  That could explain things.  Before I forget:  the Goo has changed properties since it first showed up.  It used to require that one person wear an attractor and the other get hit with the part that made them desire the person wearing the attractor.  The attractor part has been removed.  The stuff that got me was aimed specifically at females; it had no effect on guys at all."  Sammy looks uncomfortable when she talks about that.

Sylvia's pretty sure she wasn't in Fern's sights either.  She's just not that big a part of the squad, attrition notwithstanding.  "There's no reason not to ask her what's going on, is there?  I mean, once you've got your prints?"

"Maybe we don't know what happened to Fern. After all, no one knew what happened to Darla. And Chris told me this morning that there was another girl, though they don't know who she is yet. It's probably nothing to do with Fern, but still... She has to be stopped, but I'm not too eager to ruin anyone's life."

“Colin, by choosing to act as she has, Fern is the one who has ruined her life, not us if we are able to bring her to the police for those assaults and attempted assaults.  Seeing that she seems to have acted in a pretty calculated and cautions manner, I rather think she knows full well what she is doing.”

Sammy shoots a look at John as soon as Megan's attention is diverted by the others questions.  She gives her head a tiny shake and barely audibly says "Let me handle it."

She waits for a break in the conversation, then says to Megan.  "Yeah.  There were some contaminated bottles ofwater sold in the cafeteria a week ago Friday.  Elrod drank from one, kissed me, contaminated me.  Fortunately I realized pretty quick what was happening to me, and I got help.  Mr Heep had a cure."  Not the entire truth, but no lies.  Good enough for now if it keeps the peace.

Megan looked at Sammy a moment, as she recalled John explaining the text message warning about his possible exposure to the love goo from that day.  The event that he had told her about had not really bothered Megan, but the fact Sammy felt a need to exclude some facts somewhat did.  “Oh yeah, John told me about that when he explained the text message he sent my about his possibly being exposed to the love goo.”  She replied, not really feeling a need to say any more.  Looking over at everyone else, she asked.  “So, everyone seems to want to talk to Fern once we get the evidence we need.  How do we want to get the evidence?”

(ooc sorry about the mix up, SO and I had talked in PMs before about the text message from John, I was just waiting on confirmation from him that John had explained it)

"I could put a guy on her.  Wait for her to drop a drink con or something.  His testimony as to who had it, the prints and DNa from it, that should hold up in court."  Dave doesn't bother looking up from his book as he speaks.  He does pause to take a drink of his soda though.

"Dave, if you could do that without someone getting hurt, that'd be great.  I hadn't thought of this before, but there's one problem with Megan collecting the evidence; Fern could say that she was framed by someone who wanted to be sure that Fern didn't ever get back onto the squad.  Somebody more... neutral... might actually be better."

Sammy noticed the expression on Megan's face when Sammy had related the bare facts about what happened, and saw that Megan wasn't buying that particular fish because it seemed to stink a little.  Oh well, I tried... she sighs, and continues.

"There was more to the goo story, Megan.  I didn't want to upset you, make you think I was gunning for your boyfriend.  I'm better mannered than to play that game with anybody, even if I really wanted to.  John was right there when the effects hit me, and well, I kissed him.  I couldn't help myself.  I tried, but I couldn't.  He helped me get to the roof, kept me from doing anything incredibly stupid, and hung around long enough to make sure I was okay once Mr Heep's antidote kicked in.  Donnie and Colin were there too, they can back me up."  She has a look on her face like she's tired of everything.  "I'm going to get something to drink.  I'm thirsty."

She stands up and walks slowly over to where the drinks are sold.

Megan listened as Sammy admitted to what had happened, apparently not realizing exactly what Megan had meant when she had said John had explained things to her.  But, she still appreciate the fact the other girl had stated everything, even thought it might be embarrassing to say in front of everyone.  As Sammy got up to leave, she was about to say something when Sylvia and Kel spoke up.  Megan grinned slightly at Kel’s choice of the direct approach.  “Well, that would be one way to be sure I guess, though I wouldn’t want to have to revel to Fern I have powers if I don’t have to.  You all can figure it out.  I’ll be right back.”

She gave John’s arm a squeeze, giving him an understanding look as she then got up and moved after Sammy, coming up beside the other girl.  “Hey Sammy.  I just wanted to thank you for your honesty.  John had told me when he explained the warning he texted me when he thought he was exposed.  It had just kind of slipped my mind.”  She said in a low voice.  “I also appreciate your concern for my feelings, but I would have to be pretty shallow to get bent out of shape over that.  I mean, John was not really what I think anyone would call my boyfriend then.  Sure I was interested in him, and he was interested in me, and we had set up a couple dates already, but I was also at the tail end of my causal dating spree then.  I even had a date that same night with a guy, whom I kissed good night.  So I would be a bit of a hypocrite as well wouldn’t I?”

“But the biggest thing is the fact you were affected by the love goo.  What you might have done, or might not have done isn’t anywhere near as important as the fact your control was taken from you.”

"OK.  I wasn't sure.  Glad its not a big deal.  I don't like talking about it."  She stares at the display of canned and bottled drinks as if choosing something is one of the most difficult decisions she's ever had to make.  Eventually she chooses a bottle of cranapple juice, goes up to the counter and digs around in her pocket until she pulls out enough change to pay for it.  She stops just after the cashier and looks around at all the people in the cafeteria, apparently doesn't see whatever it is she might be looking for, and heads back towards the table.

Megan nods and gives Sammy an understanding look.  “I can understand that, and that makes me appreciate your honesty even more.  If there are other things you ever feel like talking about, I’m more than happy to listen.”  Megan gave the other girl a smile and then made her way back to the table as Sammy finished her quest for something to drink.  Taking her spot back next to John, she smiled as she looked around to see if there had been any other important discussion during her absence.

Sarah addresses Kel, "Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter."  She smirks and takes a bite out of the Donnie provided largess.

Through cookie she adds, "Though that getting attacked as evidence doesn't fly."

She takes a drink of juice and says,"Why don't we let Dave's storm troopers manage the tedious fingerprint gathering and once that's accomplished we can confront her.  Let Megan have a chat and some others can be in the wings.  That way if Megan doesn't want to reveal her identity group B can jump in and do the superhero thing."

Megan frowns slightly at Sarah as she replied.  “Umm, excuse me, I only agreed to talk to her because Colin and others seemed to want to.  I would far rather be there in costume and have the chance to punch her out.  And getting attacked is enough to have her taken in for that assault, she would be finger printed then, and that would connect her to the evidence from the other crimes, so it works just fine.”

"Whatever..."  Sammy takes a swig, then scowls at the juice.  "Aw, maaaaannnn...  I hate cranapple juice.  I thought it was fruit punch.  That's what I get for not paying attention..."  Capping it back up and pushing it away from her on the table, she says "Maybe Megan, Kel, and Sylvia should take turns keeping a friendly eye on Fern in the meantime, until Dave's Blue Blazers get a chance to do their thing.  Make noises about bringing her back on the squad, so she should start learning the new routines.  Cheerleader unity, and all that."

Megan shook her head slightly at Dave’s rebuttal, smiling slightly as she turned to focus on Sammy.  “Yeah, as I said early, I had been planning to talk to Fern anyway about the squad.  It won’t be long before basketball season, and we would probably be having tryouts to fill the squad back up for that, plus I have a few ideas about possibly expanding it even more.  So I was going to see about getting her back on, something Lisa wanted to do as well.  Makes perfect reason for either Sylvia or I to talk with her and keep an eye on her till we have the evidence.”

“Okay Sammy, see you later.”  Megan said with a smile as the other girl got up to leave.  The blonde teen was a bit worried about Sammy though, for she had seemed rather moody of late, not at all what Megan would have expected from someone that was getting more serious with a guy as Sammy was.  She hoped Sammy was not letting the rumors that were going around about her and Elrod get to her.

"When Dave runs for president I'm going to vote for him.  I know because I've already seen my ballot slip on his computer."   Sarah grins at mighty Dave.  "Or are you just going to head up the CIA or give orders through some secret cabal in the background."

“Well, guess its settled then, Dave’s guy will try to get something to be used as evidence, after that, we will figure a time to go and confront her, hoping she will turn herself in, but ready to fight if need be.  Right?”  Megan asked as the discussion about what to do about Fern seemed to slow down.

“I probably should have mentioned this when Sammy was here, but did everyone see the new information about the photographer that was in the news recently?  He had some invisibility device, not powers of his own.  Given the problem that has already been going on regarding the guy with the raygun and those other devices the police found, I wonder if the photographer got his from the same source, or if it was something else.  I am wondering if there is a way we could possibly find out who was making all these things and if they might be passing them on to people that are likely to use them.”

Sylvia walks to the lunch table like a woman on a mission, head tucked low and shoulders hunched.  "Colin," she says, when and if she can find him, "something's wrong with me."  At least, she thinks it's something wrong with her--more of the usual, she's thinking.  Despite the fact that her arm's bandaged and her hair is purple, she's been dodging stares all day.  It's making her nervous.

Megan makes her way through the crowded lunchroom and to the Usual Suspects table feeling that something very odd was going on.  While not unaccustomed to stares, and even some semi-regular flirting from some bolder guys, today was far beyond normal.  Taking a seat next to John, she gave a warm greeting to those already there before focusing her attention on John.

With a playful smile on her face, she says, “you know, you might want to figure out something for us to do this weekend soon.  The day is only half over and I have had four guys ask me if I wanted to do something either Friday, Saturday or both.”  The smile then fades as her face becomes more serious.  “Really though, something really weird is going on.”

"Like. . . ."  She frowns at him, worried there's going to be another incident of lunchtime passion.  If it has to be someone, she thinks, please don't let it be Colin.  "Like people behaving oddly?  Guys behaving oddly?  Are you behaving oddly, maybe, perhaps, just a little, Colin?"

"Oddly?" Colin looks down at himself, then back at her. He never noticed her eyes to be so sparkly, even when she's worried. "No, why?"

“Change my hair?  No I…”  Megan began to reply before being cut off by John’s kiss.  Though surprising, it still was very pleasant, but she knew this was not typical behavior for him.  That was unless he was making the leap from cute kisses on the check to greet her to becoming one of those couples that always seemed locked in a kiss no mater who was around them in just one day, something she highly doubted (she rather doubted John would ever be one of the constantly making out in public types, and she found that rather distasteful as well).  It was not an overly extended kiss however, though of course, for Megan it seemed a good bit longer than it would to others.

When he pulls back and compliments Sylvia as well and then states there was something different, Megan glanced over at Sylvia, and then to Colin as she replied.  “Well, Colin, for one thing there is the fact that your tongue is practically hanging out.”  She then focused back on John as she continued.  “Is there something different?  Because like I said, guys have been acting really strange all morning.  From some it is just sweet, extra nice behavior, though endless amounts of that is starting to feel creepy.  From others it is more intense flirting and hitting on me.  Not a typical day.”

Donnie meanders into the lunchroom, yawning. He plops down in a chair next to Sylvia and lazily waves at everyone. "Hey all. I'm wiped. My dad totally left me at the station until 1 AM, the jerk. If I had a normal mom, she'd have been worried sick."

He finally looks at the rest of the guys giving googly eyes at the girls. "uhhh. Hello?"

"You've got all these crazy things you can do.  Can you tell if I'm--"  Then Donnie's there.  She's throwing Megan a look, communicating silent worry.

"Hey, Donnie?"  Sylvia seems relieved to see him, a little less nervous than she was before.

"Really?" Sylvia asks, like she's testing his sanity.  "I mean, seriously.  You think I look incredible?"  Just this morning she was looking at herself in the mirror, dealing with the purple hair and the Ace bandage and thinking she'd be better off staying home sick.

From the second Sarah appears, the rest of the world just doesn't exist anymore.

Colin is stuck staring at her, his mouth slightly agape, a little tear forming in the corner of his left eye. He reaches out his hand to touch her shoulder to make sure something this beautiful is real, and then it's like he can't stop caressing her.

Sammy is not comfortable with the extra attention, but figures it is coming her way because Elrod has been singling her out.  He is a popular, admired person, so they all probably think she must have something special for him to notice her, making her desirable by default.  She kindly and graciously deflects the attention and various offers.  If someone gets too pushy, she defaults to "You'll have to talk to Elrod and see what he thinks about it, but the answer is no unless he tells me to my face that its okay with him."  She figures he'll handle it -- after all, he chased off the guys in the dance club, so he should be able to handle a bunch of high schoolers.

Sammy is still planning on going to the reserved practice room to play, but she stops at the cafeteria first to see how Sylvia and John are, since they got burned yesterday.  She elbows her way through the line and gets something to drink, then heads over to the US table.

"Hi guys!" she says brightly, not thinking that the extra attention is worth bringing up.  Elrod is handling what she can't, right?

“Radiant?”  Megan replied back, again glancing at Sylvia as she was sure the other girl was likely suspecting what might be likely going on as well.

"It's probably because you two are absolutely dreamy today. Can I take pictures?"

Megan manages to avoid feeling too creeped out by Colin’s request, for he surely was not quite acting as he normally did.  â€œUmm, yeah, I guess.”  She offered weakly, not exactly sure what to say and hoping that did not exacerbate whatever was going on.

“Hey Donnie.”  Megan replied as the other boy came over.  He did not seem too effected by whatever was going on.  His attention was primarily focused on Sylvia, which was not unusual, so it was a bit hard to tell if he was being affected or not.

Sarah rushes into lunch with her head down and her hoodie pulled up.  This is too weird.  She plunks down next to Colin without even thinking about it and looks at Megan and Sylvia.  "What the hell is going on today?"
"Love goo?"  Sylvia shrugs again, still trying to come up with an explanation and a defense.

Then Sarah arrived, appearing to try to be inconspicuous and also asking what was going on.  Sylvia says what has been on Megan’s mind.  â€œIt might be.”  The blonde teen replied.  â€œDidn’t Sammy say yesterday that she was affected by a version that only worked on girls?  Maybe this is an opposite version?”  She looked over at John, noticing Colin starting to caress Sarah’s shoulder, and hoping that would not turn more serious.  â€œHave you been noticing other girls appearing more…radiant this morning?”  She asks John.

Megan gave John a bit of a look, perhaps because he had used such a complimentary term, but it is tempered by the fact that there was something very odd going on, and the fact he only had complimented Sammy.  â€œWell,” she began, “given what is going on, I would say it is not exactly something to feel too badly about.  Sides, you didn’t jump up and kiss her or anything.”

The blonde teen the looks over at Sammy as she says, “have you noticed guys being extra nice to you, flirting with you or asking you out?  I have been dealing with that far more than normal all day, and so has Sylvia and Sarah.”

Sammy blinks at him, dumbfounded.  Then she chokes out "Well you just leave it right there and act like it doesn't really mean anything at all, because it doesn't.  You're just happy because I thought to bring along some supplies last night, so you said something nice."

Quick, change the topic... "Sylvia!  I'm surprised to see you here.  I'm glad you weren't hurt bad enough to have to stay home."

Then she's hit by the flurry of questions from the other girls.  "Everything is fine today, why?  And yeah, I've been getting some attention today, but I figured it was because Elrod has bestowed popularity on me by asking me out, not anything else...  oh cr@p.  No.  No no no no no!"  Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.  "I have a practice room reserved, Megan.  It should be big enough to hold all of us; well, it would under normal circumstances... oh boy..."

“Well, that’s an option at least.  And if we do decided to use it, it should probably just be us girls.  The effect seems to be limited just boys showing extra interest in us four, least as far as we know, so maybe it’s us?”  Donnie then spoke up from looking in his book to add a possible other theory, that also limited it to just the four girls.

Sylvia's found what little courage she has.  Her playful annoyance with Donnie becomes a more directed, more substantial irritation with the witches.  "We've been fighting magic with magic, playing their game.  Maybe now that their powers are bound, we should let them know they can't mess with us anymore without getting bitch-slapped, super-style."

"Thanks Sammy. I need about an hour to figure out the permutations, but the coven already knows that we are responsible for the binding. Well, I am, and I guess you all by association. Likely I am in for a rough time of it as they try to figure out how to break the enchantment and test the limits of what they can get away with. Sorry you all are pulled into this."

Donnie looks at Sylvia. "True, but I should keep myself out of it. I was the one doing the binding, and as Colin has pointed out to me on numerous occassions"  slightly annoyed look at his Spirit Dancer friend "If I help kick their ass while under the aegis of my spell, kharma might swing against me. Just don't involve me with your plans, and I should be alright."

Megan could not help but like the idea that Sylvia was suggesting for some reason, and she felt Sarah likely would as well.  “Well, Donnie likely should have no part of this, for Colin has always said,” she paused and looked over at Colin, whom Sarah was still slightly restraining, “well, he said when he wasn’t being overly amorous, that Donnie could have trouble with the magic involved if he takes too direct of action.  But that doesn’t restrict us does it?”

At the same time a part of him realizes such a feeling isn't normal. He tries to look at her as through a heavy fog.
With a tremendous effort, he manages to pull his hands away from her, rolls up his sleeves, and tries to form the Eye, remaining with his eyes closed for several moments behind his arms muttering something to himself.
Then he looks up again, tentatively.

Colin pulls his arms togehter, the tattoos forming the All Seeing Eye of Horus.  There is a moment when it looks almost like it glows, the eye ball a swirl of white and golds.  Then an expulsion of power erupts from the girls (that it's facing) that throws Colin backwards.

OOC: Colin, make a Toughness Save DC 14

Megan raised one eyebrow at her first view of the tattoos on Colin’s arm, but then her eyes went wide at the shockwave the emanated out from Sarah and some of the other girls he was facing to hit Colin.  “Oh crap!  Colin?”  She asked in a worried tone, somehow managing to make it a total outburst.  She also glanced around, wondering how many people saw that.

“Maybe we should be going now.”  She said to the other girls.

The Shockwaves sends Colin backwards about five feet.  Not too badly injured.

OOC: Maybe. We'll try to open a new thread if we have to face them, ok? ;)

Colin looks up from where he landed.

"Ouch. Not really what I expected, but I guess I deserved it." he says, rubbing his head.

He sees with the corner of the eye Sarah getting to help and shuts his eyes.

"Hi, wondergirl. Sorry if I don't look at you, but I'm not sure that worked, and I'd lose my brain again."

Megan was relieved that Colin did not seem to hurt as she stood up and looked at the other girls.  “I think we should go for now.”  She leaned back down to give John a kiss on the cheek.  He had been awfully quite since his compliment to Sammy and she whispered so only he could hear.  “Don’t beat yourself up.  Its pretty much just like the love goo stuff.”  She then stood back up and waited for the other girls so they could depart.

"If you are okay I should probably go."  She doesn't let go until he tells her one way or another.  "Are your eyes still closed?"

Donnie realizes that the witches probably sealed the blessing spell with protective spells, to keep someone from easily removing it.  The Eye must have triggered the protection somehow, which means that if Donnie blunders the dispell, it's gonna hurt.

Donnie's eyes grow wide as Colin is flung backwards from the eruption of magic. He freezes, and says very distinctly. "Shit."

He relaxes a bit when Colin is revealed not to be hurt.

"That's going to make things more difficult."

Sammy spun around as Colin flew backward, looking for an attacker and seeing none, then realizing somehow that it was a reaction to him looking at the girls.  She started to go to Colin's aid where he lay on the floor, but stopped and let Sarah take the lead -- safer that way.  Less opportunity for confusion.

Not knowing what else to do, she pulls the key to the rehearsal room out of another pocket.  "I have rehearsal room #3.  It's probably better if we don't all go at one time; we might cause a riot.  I'll go ahead and open it up.  I think I can make it there without armed guards, but if I yell for help, come running, okay?"

Colin keeps his eyes shut as he squeezes her back.

"I'm ok. Just go now. I'll call you later. Or ask Gretchen to pass by."

He waits for them to be gone.

"Is it safe to open my eyes now Donnie? Now, tell me, have they found a loophole? 'Cause that was definitely magic and it definitely hurt. How can they do it?"

Megan did not have time to talk to John about what he meant right now, it was likely more important that the girls all get away and Donnie work on breaking this.  “After this spell is gone we can talk after school or something.”  She whispers before focusing back on Sammy, as the brunette suggested all going at separate times.

“We can do that, and we will be following to help.”  The blonde teen suggested, but the added, “or, we could stick together and maybe Sylvia could try to do something to counter the effects?  You think that is something you could do Sylvia?”  She focused on the other girl as she asked.

"Definately a loophole. You see, the hieghtened charm is something they consider beneficial magic. Then they laid protective spells over the blessing, so anyone who tried to mess with them would be rebuked. It's not harming others, it is a blessing and a protection spell. Damn dirty apes.."

His eyes never left Sylvia's butt as she left the cafeteria, however.  ;)

"Okay.  As long as you are in one piece I'll clear out of here," says Sarah, "You already impressed me yesterday, you don't have to keep trying to show off you know.Have a good lunch." she jokes.  Sarah lets go of Colin and backs away.  She returns to the table and says to Megan and Sylvia, "I'll grab some snacks from the lunch line and then drift over there in a few.  Same deal as Sammy said... if any of us gets into a corner with somebody overly amorous and you need help... well I don't think that it will really come to that."  She shrugs.

She makes her way through the line as quickly as possible with a bunch of goodies.

Sammy goes ahead of the other girls, assuming she can probably protect herself from whoever might confront her.  She makes her way through the cafeteria, up flights of stairs, and down the long corridors of the high school, maintaining a steady "don't interrupt me, things to do, places to go" pace.  She makes one stop at her locker and pulls out the emergency granola bars, in case this siege turns out to be longer than expected.

She wishes she knew what to do.

If Sylvia says she was okay to go alone, Megan will wait a few moments after Sammy has left and then let Sylvia follow.  After a short while, Megan will follow along as well, hoping to be near if Sylvia needs help.  If Sylvia wants, however, the blonde teen will accompany her.

"Uh. . . ."  Sylvia seems dubious.  "I can try."

Before the girls leave, she puts her hand over Donnie's and squeezes it.  "Be careful, okay?  If we can think about beating some sense into those girls, they can think about finding another chump with a baseball bat.  Tell Pip to keep an eye out."

Colin frowns deeply.

"If this is the game they want to play, then we bind them again, only this time so they can use no magic at all. They don't seriously expect to get good karma out of this, do they?"

He takes a deep breath.

"At least we could tell them that's what they can expect if they drive us mad. You should talk with Mitzi and I'll talk with Ms. Kellogg. White witches do this kind of things all the time. Either we did our binding wrong, or we don't know how to enforce it. They can't be the first to think of something like this. Somebody has probably already devised a way to deal with them, we only have to find it out."

If Donnie agrees with him, Colin will go to the restroom and call Chris, asking for Ms. Kellogg, or at least her number.

OOC: I take it that Donnie agrees.

Colin goes to the nearest restroom, gets out his phone, and calls Chris.

"Hi Chris.

No, I'm at school, and we're not in danger, but we have a problem. Any chance you could pass me Ms. Kellogg, or give me her number?

No, not Vandross, the witches this time. Why?

Really?!  But... it makes no sense.

I see. Do you think you could let me touch that book?"

OOC: Chris tell him this way what you told me by PM. :) I'd like you to answer the last question though. And to let me talk with Ms. Kellogg if she's available.

Chris gives the phone to Blaire Kellog, the magician assigned to the Chicago PCD.  "Colin?, Chris says you want to touch the book?  I don't think that's a good idea.  Magically sensative people should never touch something like this unless they're certain they know what's going to happen."

"I was hoping to get some vision about how Palmer got it. But I have a more urgent problem. Remember the witches we talked about, that friend of mine that wanted to perform a binding and how to help him? Well we did it. We bound them so they couldn't use their magic for ill anymore. So now they are retaliating targeting us with... excessively beneficial spells. And they protected them against dispelling, I already tried and got punched by it. How can they do it, but more importantly, how can we get rid of this?"
