On her way home from the hospital, Sarah chats with Morpheus.

Sarah walked home alone in the chill pre-dawn.  The air was cold but not uncomfortable.  The light thermal clothing she'd put on was just enough to keep her warm as long as she kept moving.  She let her feet do the driving because her mind was lost, stuck in a replay of the rooftop.

Jane's magic sent her over the ledge and into open air, falling.  The wind blew her hair into her face and she watched Jane's smiling face get farther and farther away as the wind roared at her back.  Sarah was too scared to try and turn and look.  Colin's dream came true and she was about to die.  She'd seen him just as she fell.  For a split second she caught the look on his face as she slipped over the edge.  Then there was nothing but the night air and the flash of the windows on the way down.  Her entire body had tightened up and she closed her eyes tight.  <press start> (load last save point?) <yes> *poit* Instead of the sudden stop and discovery of what came next, she found herself on the rooftop again.

Did I do that?  Well?  Did I? 

Sarah starts thinking...but not to herself.  "Morpheus?  Are you out there?  It's me, Sarah, you know, the girl who doesn't call, doesn't write?  Sorry about that... it's just, I've had my head to myself for a real long time and I'm a little slow about sharing it.  If you're busy or something I understand.  There's a question... what does an intangible intelligence do all day?  Sorry I'm prying."

What does a computer do when you aren't using it?  I contemplate the vastness of the universe and talk to other disembodied spirits.  We also play cards, lots of cards.

OOC: Since The blackbird talks in red, and SMith has been in blue Morpheus is gonna have to get moved to Green.  Hopefully I can keep it all straight.

OOC: That's okay.  If you forget and change colors I wont consider it some sort of conspiracy or anything. 

IC:
"Cards.  Gotcha."  Sarah considers her thoughts and wonders if by doing that she's already put them up for review with Morpheus or if she has to direct them... 

If there's no immediate answer she asks her question.

"I know you are a disembodied spirit some vast distance away... or is there even a distance factor?  Whatever.  It would probably involve math so I think I'll just keep going.  Do you have any idea of what happened to me a little while ago?  I teleported, or I was teleported.  I didn't do it.  If I did I don't know how I did it.  Colin says he didn't do it.  I know Jane didn't do it.  Heh.  That look on her face was totally choice. 

So I don't know of anyone else around that could have done it.  Maybe John or Megan could have snatched me in the blink of an eye kind of deal but I don't think they would have left Jane there if they had done it.  So it seems like I did it.  So yeah...
Do you have any idea how I teleported?  Because I'd really like to do that again.  Not the get shoved off a building thing but the teleport part."

... are we talking something in the near future or when I head off for college or superhero academy or air conditioning repair school? 

Sarah jogs across an empty street.  A few delivery trucks were trundling down the roads at this point but not much else. 

Do you know how I activate this Teleport power?  I honestly wasn't paying too much attention to the specifics at the time.  I just didn't want to be falling anymore.  I imagine its some kind of mental button I have to push to get the hang of it.  I mean, I just don't think about being somewhere and poof or I'd be disappearing all the time.  I'd have vanished from Math class every single day of the school year if that was the case. 

Your planet has plenty of people to take care of emergencies.  There are other worlds that don't have that good fortune.  They will be where you spend much of your time.


It'll take some practice, but it's a matter of deciding to be somewhere else.  We'll work on some exercises.  When you start using it to travel the galaxy I'll serve as your navigator.  That's one of the many tasks we perform.

Other worlds?

Sarah looks across the quiet and desolate predawn Oak Park landscape, contemplating a strange new life in a Galaxy Far Far Away...

I haven't even been across the ocean.  You aren't just messing with me?  Some sort of interstellar newbie hazing?  Traveling to another world?  That's just... I guess I'm going to have to let that one sink in for ... a while.  I don't know how long.  I can't do that yet can I?  I mean I'm not accidentally going to trip off something inside and wind up standing on Venus?

Sarah does a diving somersault over a short fence, a vault over the next taller one and drops down into the next side street.

After high school.  Well if I manage to make it that far I guess I will be ready to do a little travelling.  Okay.  I'm going to head home now.  I guess I'll call you up after I get some sleep to start those lessons.    Maybe by then I'll have something intelligible to say about this intergalactic bomb you've dropped on me.

She runs down an alley in silence and across the street. 

Thanks for the teleport info.  It's nice to know that I did that.  Am I going to have to learn all the sciency stuff about quantum whatever before I leave?

Sarah nods as she rounds a corner and sees the lights of home shining two blocks away. 

Sounds good to me.  Listen I know I said I was still getting used to the whole communication thing with you but if you ever want to just swing by and chat that's cool.  I mean I know contemplating the infinite and playing cards probably keeps you pretty busy but if you ever want to chill out in the boondocks for a while just swing by.  Doors always open.  I'll bug you later this morning for those practice lessons.  Just have to catch some z's and make some coffee.
