Kel had dropped a few hints here and there about trying to link up with the school ninja.  Casual stuff out where the smokers hid to have a quick one between classes and with some of the kung fu movie crowd.  That's why he wasn't totally suprised to find a note in his locker, written in Japanese telling him they would meet him after last bell on the tennis courts across the street from the gym.  If things didn't drag on too long he'd have time to make the meet and pep squad practice with no trouble.

After school

Kel arrives at the tennis court, and looks about.  He thinks to himself as he stands there, eyes darting, ears twitching, and taking whiffs of the air, surprising they left a note in japanese, it took me forever to learn how to read it, still can barely write kanji..

Kel's thoughts are interrupted by the soft silent approach of a half dozen people.  They're approaching from different angles and he wouldn't even know it if his enhanced senses hadn't picked up the sloy rythimic beating of their hearts and the gentle whistle like sound of their breathing.

"Hello Gentlemen."  Kel says as he watches their approaches and listens to their smooth heartbeats.

Kel realizes he recognizes the smell and the heartbeat of one of them.  Dallas Winston.

In a flurry of motion they emerge onto the tennis court.  "You are truely a master of your surroundings."  One of them says.  "We are honored that you see fit to seek us out."

Kel is surprised when he realizes this, but he calms himself as they appear.  It wasn't surprising, he was a much better martial artist than most people their age, and his skill was more focused than Kel's.  Kel gives a bow of greeting to the one who spoke, "Thank you.  I seek you out with a specific reason in mind.  While a capable fighter, I lack much ability beyond my own fists.  I have noticed that you all commonly make use of shuriken, make-shift or not, this is impressive.  I have come to ask you to teach me, how to use such weapons like you do."

They look at each other, then the look towards the one Kel has realized is Dallas.  He undoes his t-shirt from his head, putting it on the right way, thus revealing his identity.  "Practice."

The others take off their t-shirt made ninja hoods.  Kel recognizes some of them, all of them are Freshman.  For the next few minutes they gush over Kel like fan boys seeing their favorite video game character come to life.

"We can teach you.  We'd be honored for you to join us."  Dallas tells him.  Of the group, Dallas is the only one that is not an uber geek of some kind.  Kel learns they all grew up playing togehter in the same neighborhood.  Dallas sort of gravitated to being their leader, and when he started into the ninja thing, they joined him.  After hearing all the horror stories from their older brothers and sisters about what got done to Freshman at high school, they decided on the ninja thing to even the playing field some.

Kel is a little irritated by the fan boy gushing but he puts up with it.  He finally says, "I'm not sure I wish to join you, though I'm definitely flattered by the offer.  I have other things on my mind alot of the time, but I definitely wish to learn about all this.  It's pretty impressive."

"Okay.  We understand.  You have your path.  We can start whenever you like.  You have my number, just give me a call."

With that he nods and the others drift away from the tennis courts, as though they were never there.

"How's Breanna?"  Dallas asks once the others have left.  "I heard she got whacked on the head or something during the evacuation.  She doing okay?"

Kel nods as they begin the walk towards cheerleading practice, "She's doing a lot better and the girl who did has been taken care of.  How have you been?"

"Pretty good.  There's this girl I'm thinking of asking to Homecoming.  I think I'm failing Chemistry, but I wont know until the interums come out."

Kel laughs a bit and says, "That's good.  The girl part, not the failing chem part."  He then shakes his head, "Still can't believe that you and those guys are the school ninja, I mean, just wow."

"I sort of suspected you were one of the school supers.  Something about the way you move, and that group of friends you hang out with.  I was waiting to ask about it, that's part of the reason I went to the pep squad tryouts.  When I saw you go over, I thought I'd give it a try."

Kel laughed when Dallas said that, "And I went there to make sure Sylvia wouldn't be alone.  Now she's leaving us."  He laughed a little, and said, "Yea, I'm not the most super of supers...really just an inch above regular person.  But what'd you want to ask about?"

"The guys were really psyched when they found out you wanted to meet us.  It would mean a lot to them, if when you see them in the halls or whatever if you'd give them the nod.  Just to acknowledge them.  It's part of the whole ninja thing.  It would mean a lot."

Kel was a little surprised, "Sure, that's not a problem...but I mean, why?  What's so great about me?"

"Geeks love super heroes.  Like it or not, you've got fan boys now."

Kel shakes his head and says, "Jeez.  Still is it really that transparent that I'm trying to be a superhero?"

"Only to us.  We've seen you fight.  It's not like on a bulletin board or anything."

Kel lets out a small breath: phew.  "That's good.  I was really afraid like everyone knew or something."
