Kel goes to meet Brianna

Kel smoothed back his hair once more, there were a few strands that hadn't been collected up in his pony tail that kept being blown by passing breezes, he sighed a little as he walked to Brianna's door.  He had gotten rid of the dyes that normally accompanied his hair so it was now a dark brown color, he smoothed it over one more time as he walked up to the house.  Renting a tux had been impossible so close to the dance, so Kel had ended up borrowing an old suit from one of his older cousins.  A simple black double breasted suit with a hint of white pinstripes, Kel felt like a jackass in it as he adjusted the long tie which served as the lone splash of color to match Brianna's dress.  He took a deep breath, and stared down at the corsage, a white carnation tipped in the same color as her dress.  He then rang the doorbell after another tense breath, he took a whiff of himself as he did and shook his head, his grandfather had at the last minute convinced him to put on cologne and Kel felt like he now reeked of Old Spice.  He sighed as he waited for the door to open.

Brianna opened the door, and she immediately smiled.  "You smell of colone.  I hope we don't cause a chemical reaction and burst into flames."  Her dress was a lavender color, and it fit snug to her torso and flowed out around her waist.  She was wearing makeup, which caught Kel's eye immediately as it was out of place.  It looked good, and brought out her eyes, but he realized she never wore it normally.

"Come in.  Mom and dad want pictures."  She said, pulling the door open wide so he could come in.

Kel smiles a little, the make-up was a nice touch but in some ways the difference made him appreciate how she normally didn't wear it, made things all a little more special.  He steps in and says, "Yea, I hope it's not too overpowering.  My grandfather practically wanted me to bathe in the stuff."  Before they step into the room where her parents are he whispers, "You look astounding..." Then remembering the corsage in his hand he says, "Oh...and I got you a corsage."  He loops it onto her wrist as best as he can.

Brianna's parents are nice enough, but Kel feels like they're exceptionally repressed.  They're polite and smile, but they almost seem like they're not sure how to act at all and Kel isn't sure if it's him, or the way they always are.  As he and Brianna stand together for pictures Kel realizes that her perfume is Old Spice also, but it smells very different on her.

Once the good-byes are said and they move outside Brianna exhales deeply.  "They're a little hard to get to know.  They want me to have anormal life, and it always freaks them out when anything normal happens.  If they knew you, they'd know you weren't normal and I'm sure that would make everything better."  She smiles.

Kel laughed a little, "Maybe, but I try to keep a tight lid on that sort of stuff.  Though I have to admit that it is kind of weird going out to do something normal like going to homecoming."  He laughs again as they step outside.  Kel checks his watch, the one thing he had made sure to do and blew his mother's latest "care package" on was a relatively cheap town-car to drive them to the school, he didn't want to put Brianna through meeting his father or any of his relatives.  "The car should be here any minute..." He says.

The car arrived and the pair made their way to the school in comfort and privacy.  "You mentioned your grandfather.  He lives with you, or how does that work.  I realize now we don't know much about each other except we're both military brats."?

He laughed and nodded, "Yea, he lives with my dad and I.  Just kind of putters around, has a nice garden out back.  He's a little, out there..."  Kel says shaking his head.

"It's just us.  My grandparetns are all gone, so that's sort of a bummer.  Dad's having a little trouble adjusting to this new assignment.  Recruiting isn't something he's very good at.  Mom is really into her new job though, so that's a plus."

He laughed a little and asked, "What does your mom do again?"

"She's a doctor.  Since this looks like it'll be dad's twilight tour she decided to go for a good position at the University Hospital.  What does your mom do?"

Kel takes a deep breath and says, "She likes to spend rich businessman's money on herself."  His voice definitely has an edge to it when he says it.

"Oh.  I assume, not living with you then.  Otherwise, that would be awkward."

"She lives in Tokyo with some sleazy businessman, guy's a total creep and she doesn't care."  He says, anger creeping into his voice, he takes another deep breath.

"Well."  Brianna's hand comes to rest on his, "That's her decision.  She's the one that misses out on everything in your life."

He takes a deep breath and nods, "Yea that's true I guess.  So...how 'bout something less...awkward..."  He asks trying to think up a subject.

"Okay."  Brianna said.  "hanging the subject is not a problem."  They pass the remainder of the trip chatting about some local bands and venues for shows.  They have similar tastes in local stuff, buit Brianna has a far broader taste in music in general.  It's not long before they arrive at the dance.

Once they arrive, Kel steps out of the car, and extends his hand for Brianna to take it.  He smiles and says, "Let's hope this night goes by perfectly."

"Well, perfectly by who's assesment?"  she says as he helps her from the car.  "Should I be worried?"

He laughed loudly and said, "I meant smoothly, without anything stupid or dangerous happening.  I want things to just be, ya know...normal I guess."

"Ok.  Normal.  So take your blind date out onto the dance floor, let's pretend we're both normal, and go to a normal school, and everything is normal.  Even if it's only for a little while."

He laughed a little and as he took her onto the dance floor he said, "Yea, just for a little while."

After a few dances and some mingling, Kel's phone alerts him to a text message from Elrod.

Sammy dancing with some guy.  Might be THE guy.

OOC: Notice check is 20 to find her in the crowd.

Kel looks at the phone and grumbles as he does, "Well, it was fun while it lasted."  He looks about trying to spot Sammy and the possible beekeeper.

Sammy is not hard to find, she looks really hot.  The guy she's dancing with is in a black tux with a yellow tie.  He seems normal enough.

Kel lets out a low 'hmm' as he dances with Brianna and says to her, "So Sammy is dancing with a guy who is wearing black and yellow, think we should do something or just keep going on with our night?"

"Is she breaking eye contact, searching the room or look uncomfortable?"  Brianna asks as they dance.

Kel lets out another 'hmm' as he watches her for a brief moment.

She seems to be plesantly talking with the guy.  At the end of the dance he leaves and Megan and John arrive.  The three of them head off the dance floor.

"Nope," He says as he watches it all unfold, "Everything just stayed perfectly normal.  Are you enjoying this as much as I am?" He asked, his voice was definitely a more wistful nature.

"I don't ant to seem like a snoop.  But, what is going on?  I sort of know some stuff, but I'm not sure what you know and if I can say anything.  Are you guys some kind of secret club or what?"

Kel laughed a little and then whispered softly, "I thought you had figured out that we're well...superheroes, kind of, not really, well yes and no..."  He sighs as he trails off, trying to think of exactly how to describe the whole group, "I suppose you could just say, that unpredictable things, super things, just sort of happen to us, and around us, and we try to keep things going smoothly..."

Brianna nods, "That explains so many things.  Well, I guess that makes me an unofficial member of the Usual Suspects.  If you ever need my help, you only have to ask.  Okay?"

Kel whispers, "Sure, just don't tell the others or they'll drag you into everything.  Unless you, you know, want to get dragged into everything."  His tone is only half-joking.

"Well, I doubt they'd drag me into too much.  I sort of require a sitter if I'm somewhere I'm not familiar with."

Kel laughed a little and said, "You never know, we've been dragged into some weird stuff unexpectedly, over the past month or two."

"Well, I suppose I should start being more careful, before some other love sick nut after your heart or body decides to crack me over the head with her bataon and leave me for dead in a bathroom."  She's got a smile on her face, and she rests her head on his shoulder.  "Just make sure the next time it happens you think things through before you leap to avenge me, okay?"

He laughed, "I promise not to do anything rash again.  Unless you know, well, ok I can't really keep that promise, but I'll try."
