Title: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: BaboonBill on November 30, 2007, 03:11:00 PM Donnie waits, fidgeting, in the hallway near the AV room. He is wired and excited at trying out his new spell using some of the theories he had been working on for his eventual thesis paper he intended to write to get into Miskatonic U. Go Pods! He smiles nervously to himself. Pip sits in his backpack with his scaley head poking out, looking down the hallway, ever looking for potential threats. Sylvia is not there, not there, not there, and then, suddenly, there she is standing right next to Donnie and Pip. "What's the plan?" "Damnation, Sylvia! You developing Fwip! powers too?" "Fwip? No. Not fwip. More like woo-oo-oo," she sings, waggling her fingers at his braincase. Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: opensesame on November 30, 2007, 04:52:53 PM Sarah strolls down the hall carrying her pack and jacket. "Hey all." She notices Donnie looks a little tense. "Is something afoot?" Love that word. Wait.. is it one word or is a foot? Either way I got to say it. Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: Doc on November 30, 2007, 04:54:24 PM Colin checks (via Blackbird) if there is anyone behind the closed door. And also if there's a camera even in the AV room. Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: BaboonBill on November 30, 2007, 04:59:21 PM Donnie smiles at Sylvia and playfully tries to bite one of her wriggling fingers. "No, uh, just trying something new. Do we have a key or do we go for a magic Sarah Ride?" Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: BaboonBill on December 01, 2007, 12:54:24 AM Donnie walks in as Sarah opens the door and looks around. Pip scrambles clear of the backback and wings over to Sarah, nuzzling her and looking for cookies. Donnie looks around the room and walks over to the video editing station, where student films are edited, adjusted, uploaded and retaped. It also serves as a connection to the video televisions that are in every room across the school. He gets out a couple jars from deep in his backpack and unscrews a cap, frowning at the chalky powdery clumps in the bottom of it. He spies a water bottle on the corner of a shelf and gets it, pouring a small measure of the remaining liquid into the canister and mushing it together with his index finger, talking as he paces. "There's this comic book. I dunno if you guys heard of it. It's called Planetary. Awesome book, by the way. Anyway, it's written by Warren Ellis, and the man is really smart when it comes to understanding the ideals and stuff of being a super-human, Homo-superior if you prefer the hype. I don't like that word; it smacks of aryanist-better than-others idealism. Anyway, in this comic called Planetary, there is a character who processes everything he sees as information, information he can manipulate. It's what gave me the idea to utilize computers and electronics for magical purposes. The big time magicians who own the limelight would say this idea is poppycock or whatever, but i can guarantee there are really smart people working for the US government who have thought the same thing and are working in secret for like, the NSA, paid for by the Defense budget or something. I mean, come on, if a 14 year old boy can think this up, then surely others have." He walks over to Sylvia, unhesitatingly smearing a thumbprint of the mixture on her forehead. It smells strongly of peppermint. He walks over to Sarah, who looks at him dubiously. He smiles at her and takes out another smear. "It's simply talc, peppermint oil, and crumbled lemon mint. It will let you see what I am going to do." He looks over at Colin. "I doubt you need any. You see more than I do, every day." He walks over to the AV unit, as Pip settles in to watch the door. He waves over the gang to the machine as he begins to sketch a circle across the faded plastic and metal case and keyboard. The room seems to darken as the glittering trail of gold sparkles follows his finger. "So, in the comic, the character called the Drummer could see everything as a flow of information, an ordered pattern to be manipulated. Everything has it's place, everything has a specific order to the universe." The design becomes more complex, as he layers shape after letter after strange linework as it grows in scope, touching the monitors set in the machine. The design's layers float off each other, growing smaller and tighter. The smear of peppermint talc seems warm, pleasantly so on the girls' foreheads Donnie pauses as the design reaches almost eight inches high, looking like a pyramid of sparking and shimmering light. "Magic is the cheat codes of the universe." He shoves the design downward, collapsing it into the machine as the monitors flicker to life. Donnie begins to rewind time and search for the culprits. Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: secretoracle on December 01, 2007, 01:19:12 AM The spell can follow intent and purpose and so the universe rewinds to Friday night, when the AV team is recording the rehearsal of the dancers and then Nick and Sammy. There is audio, and they can fast forward through all of that. there is a blip or static in the display as it begins to show the next step in time where it's purpose has drawn it. One of the AV guys, a slightly shy lad with glasses that seem a little too big for his face is going over the tape, sitting next to him is Torrance Shipman, the new cheer leading captain. As they watch the part of the recorded tape right before Nick and Sammy kiss, Torrance reaches across the board for a bottle of water sitting on a shelf over the controls. She sits down again and sips from the water. The AV kid is watching the monitor intently. Torrance smiles and touches his shoulder, "Walter, what's that green light mean on the board?" Walter's attention snaps to the board, then he glances over his shoulder where the school TV network monitor is. "OhmyGosh, we're transmitting video over the network." He scrambles to the controls and switches the feed off. "Oh crap, I could so get in trouble." "Walter, relax. It must have been my fault, when I reached over for my water I must have flipped that switch. You wont get in trouble, if anyone asks I'll take the blame, it was an accident." They finish watching the rest of the tape, which has a little more of the dancers practicing their moves, and then Torrance gets up. "I'll go explain everything at the office. It was an accident Walter. You didn't do anything wrong." She gives him a kiss on the cheek and leaves. EDIT: Doc was kind enough to point out I had said audio when I wanted to say transmitting video. All fixed, thanks for catching that. You see more than I do, every day." Sylvia dabs off a little of the ointment and sniffs it. "If I break out, we're having words." They finish watching the rest of the tape, which has a little more of the dancers practicing their moves, and then Torrance gets up. "I'll go explain everything at the office. It was an accident Walter. You didn't do anything wrong." She gives him a kiss on the cheek and leaves. "When he says 'broadcast,' he means to the school network?" Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: BaboonBill on December 01, 2007, 10:01:14 AM "Yeah, I guess so. They must have been down here during that time, and she flipped the switch long enough to show the clip to the entire school." Donnie stands with arms crossed, one finger tappin his lips. "Is this Torrance just a devious cheerleader or something more? So far she seems pretty normal, for a petty, cruel, overly-painted, highschool cheerleader, that is." Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: BaboonBill on December 01, 2007, 11:11:15 AM Donnie's mouth downturns. "I dunno. I have no idea how to go about that. I'm not much of a computer hacker, but I suppose i could try. Give me a couple days to work out a spell to make me a hackmaster for a few hours or something." Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: opensesame on December 01, 2007, 02:35:12 PM Sarah asks, "Where did she used to go to school anyway?" She finally fished a plastic bag with half a stale cookie left in it and handed it to the little dragon. "Sorry, I'm fresh out at the moment." And she wasn't about to let him gobble up whatever Sammy had put in the tin she gave her at lunchtime. Colin says. Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: opensesame on December 04, 2007, 01:27:49 PM "Or you could just wallop her with the camera," offers Sarah. "That works for me." Title: Re: Chapter 43-5, The Scooby Gang in the AV Room Post by: BaboonBill on December 04, 2007, 01:51:55 PM "I'll let you guys deal with it. I'm pretty pooped out right now." He takes one hand and slowly brushes it across the station, pulling out the multi-layerd golden sparkles and leaving the machine the same faded and well-used equipment.
