A little after Sammy gets back home she gets a text message from Nick;

You ok?  heard you were in a car accident?

No skip unless mom says so.

This is quickly followed by another.

How bad is it? R ppl talking about me?

Sammy feels an overwhelming sense of relief when she gets the message from El.  She doesnt stop to think about just how much trouble she will be in if she's caught near him.

Will b there as soon as i can!

She tears down the stairs.  "Mo-o-o-m! I'mgoingoutseeyoulaterdontworryitsokayI'm just meeting somebody for a late lunch."  She stops and slows her words.  "I'm allowed to go to rehearsal after school, right?  You can come with me if you want."

Mom blinks a few times, then nods.  "You can go.  Is there someone from the gang you trust to be there?  I don't want you to feel like I'm hovering, but I'd feel safer if there was someone you could trust there to keep an eye out so you could focus on the practice."

"I can probably get somebody to do it, but I have to ask them first.  If they can't, I'll let you know, ok?"

With her mother's assent practically guaranteed, Sammy whips out her phone and mass texts a message to the suspects.

With that she's out the door, making a beeline to the nearest sub shop.  She picks up a couple of subs and Cokes, finds a reasonable place to take to the sky, then soars to the hospital.  She looks in the window before she raps on it to announce her presence.

Sammy can see Elrod laying in the bed, a tray of some sort of food is in front of him and he's picking at it wiht a spork like it's a disection in biology class.  Her rap on the window draws his attention and he moves to get out of bed, wincing in obvious pain, then making it over to open the window.  "Hey lady."  He says with a smiles, his face still a bit swollen.  "Come on in."  He moves aside so she can float into the room, then closes the window.  Sammy is barely on the ground before he wraps her in a hug, which has obviously aggravated some injury, as she can feel the change in his breathing.  He doesn't say anything, he just holds onto her for a while.  When he does speak, it's in a low whisper.  "I'm sorry.  For all those times I tried to get you to not think about us having to separate.  It was selfish of me, and I wont ignore those feelings anymore."

She hugs him back.  "Don't apologize," she says fiercely.  "Its me who needs to apologize.  I'm supposed to be one of the good guys, someone who protects people from bad supers, and I couldn't even keep this from happening to you.  I didn't know anything about it until the next day.  I..."  She's too emotional to talk about it.  Still pulled in close to him, she extracts the bag of food from behind his back and says in a choked voice.  "Steak subs from Mama's, because hospital food totally sucks.  A couple Cokes and fries are in there too.  How about you sit down and eat?"

When they move apart it's obvious Elrod has begun to tear up as well.  "Yeah, subs would be great."  They take a seat on the far side of the bed on the floor and Elrod takes to the food like a man who hasn't eaten in days.  "So, I figured something was up when Donnie started kicking my ass.  For a chubby kid he hits hard."  Elrod chuckles, and then winces.

"Yeah.  I saw the results when Dave brought me here to see you."  Sammy looks grim.  "El, if I thought for a second that it was Donnie's own idea to do this to you... but he was a pawn.  A pawn who's mind was manipulated past the boundaries of good judgment."

She watches him wince as moves.  "I guess the healing mojo didn't go as far as Colin thought it would.  I'd offer to kiss your booboos and make them better, but... I think I'd have chapped lips before I was a tenth of the way done.  Is there any spot on you that doesn't hurt?"

"I kind of figured it wasn't his idea.  I mean, he could have done something worse right, like have something eat me.  So I figured he was maybe doped up or something, or it wasn't really him."  He continues to munch on the sandwich.  "Don't let that stop you from trying."  he says with a smile, leaning over to give her a kiss.

When he finishes eating he breaths deep and slow, his teeth clenched.  "My folks were in earlier, I told them that O was gonna try to have you come by.  Dad just nodded but mom did that thing where she bites her lip, which means she's not so sure her little angel is making the right decision."  He turns to look into her eyes, "I just wanted you to see me.  I know the concert is tomorrow, and I wanted you to see I'm   not gonna die, so you can get up there on that stage and knock'em dead."

"Okay.  I will, because you asked it."  Sammy smiles.  "For the record, I knew before they made me leave that you weren't going to die.  Colin and I made sure of that.  I just didn't know how long it was going to take for you to get better.  Do me a big favor and don't get sick off the food I brought in, ok?  I'm being suspected of enough already.  I can't bring you a bag of dogs and a chocolate milkshake tonight after rehearsal if I've been dragged off to juvie."

She hugs him gently so as not to cause him pain.  "I wish I knew how to make you better faster.  Then again, I'm the djinn here.  Maybe you're the one who needs to make the wish where I can hear it."  She gets an oddly serious look on her face.  "Go ahead.  Put your arms around me in a circle, and try it.  Make a wish to be healed.  The worst that'll happen is nothing."

Elrod wraps his arms around her and smiles.  "You already made that wish come true, but if it'll make you feel better."  He straightens up slightly. "I wish I were healed."

Sammy isn't quite sure what she should be doing here, if anything.  "If I can heal you, I will."  She kisses him and tries.  Her sleeve drops back as she wraps her arms more tightly around him, and the admittance bracelet from this morning's incident becomes visible.  Oops. I forgot to take that off.

Elrod holds onto her for a time, and then leans back some to look into her eyes.  "I feel better, but I'm not sure I'm what you'd call healed."  He looks the same, and still moves like someone who is sore.  "You should get going.  They'll be back eventually for my tray and to take my vitals.  The last thing we need is for the woman accused of masterminding my hospitalization to be found in my room."

"Maybe I just wanted a cheap excuse to wrap myself around you," she says.  She hadn't really expected anything to happen, but sometimes fairy tales have a shred of truth to them.  "I'll come back tonight if I can, after dress rehearsal.  I'm being watched pretty closely between the people trying to protect me and the people who think others need to be protected from me."  She scoops up the trash from the sub shop.  "No evidence means no questions to answer later.  Gimme a call if you want to place a carry out order.  Sarah delivers too, if its an emergency."

She gives him a swift kiss.  "And your sister?  She's the one who found you and got you here.  She cares a lot about you, no matter how weird she acts.  Be sure you thank her."

"I will.  You have a good rehearsal."  Elrod gives her a final hug and kiss, then lets her out the window and waves as she flies off.

Sammy flies back home and tries to get herself into the right frame of mind for rehearsal.  She looks at the hospital ID bracelet on her wrist and thinks for a minute.  She would really like to take the stupid thing off, but... suppose they try to tell her she can't be in the performance because she missed school today?I'll cut it off after a couple of teachers see it.  It'll prove I was admitted to the hospital, in case there's any doubt.

She sends Dave a message.
El is awake and going 2 b ok.  Take food.  :)
