Title: Chapter 53-5, Chatting with Gena Ballestra
Post by: secretoracle on January 01, 2009, 09:20:05 AM
Armed with her schedule and where her locker is it's not hard to figure out which door is the most likely one for her to leave school from, and make sure to be in the vicinity.  Gena is a tall girl, which gets her some attention and most of it negative.  She's certainly not unattractive by any stretch of the imagination, but her height intimidates most boys and so they try to feel more secure by picking on her.  She has weathered the abuse pretty well over the years and has a fairly sunny disposition in spite of it.

OOC: So as I understand it Colin & Sarah will be doing the talking and Sylvia will be there 'out of site' as well.  I'm guessing the others will be nearby also?

OOC:  Sure.  Sammy is way down the hall, in line of sight but not recognizably part of what's going on with Gena.

{Rhys could be anywhere (or anything) they want. A book in someone's bag, a curious bird in a nearby tree, etc...}

Meanwhile, Alicia is nowhere to be seen and, other than the text message, hasn't touched base with any of the group.

Sarah has a pretyped message to the US that she hits send on when she and Colin spot Gena.

She strolls up to Gena with a notebook marked with questions and a header across the top reading Robot Attack.

Sarah opens her mouth and hopes for the best.  She says,
"Hi Gena?  I'm Sarah Rollins and this is Colin Crow.  We were hoping to ask you a couple of questions about the recent event outside of school?"

Say yes, Sylvia thinks from her vantage point.  She nudges Gena into the mood to talk.

"Sure."  She says with a smile, "I'd be happy to."

OOC:Sarah, Colin, Sylvia need to make Notice checks with a DC of 18.  Just slip them into your next posts.

Sylvia's minimally aware of her surroundings as she works on Gena, but Jack has gotten in the habit of throwing tennis balls at her head when she's not expecting it.  She's learning to develop those peripherals.

Sarah smiles, relieved, and says, "Thanks, I really appreciate that.  Can you tell us what you saw outside the school that day?"  She holds her pen ready to scribble notes, it was partly for show because Colin was an active video camera next to her.  All he needed was a blinking light to let you know he was on.

Sarah, worried enough about the way these things have gone in the past seems to have her jedi senses activated.

Gena relates the tale from her point of view, which includes getting moved by 'something' at one point.  She describes the event and Sarah, Colin and Sylvia realize that the human mind has a high capacity for loosing details.  she couldn't describe anyone with any real accuracy.  He mention of the others are The Flying Girl, and the Guy With Wings, and Uther is merely mentioned as the The School Dragon.

Sarah nods and takes notes asking for a couple of non super hero specific details like where she was standing when everything started happening and which direction she was facing.  She closes up the notebook and puts away her pen.  "Thanks for that Gena.  I've got another question but it's not for an article."  She hopes that Sylvia isn't wearing her tinfoil hat and asks, "I was told that you were moved by supernatural efforts not because of the robot but to protect you from an attack directed at you from another source.  It is possible whoever it was, was hoping to have the attack disguised during the robot mayhem.  Is there someone trying to harm you Gena?"

Mayhem is such a good word.  Better them melee because everyone always pronounces it wrong.
The only reason Sarah knew how to pronounce melee was because of Donnie's gaming sessions and everyone cringed when she mispronounced it.  Gamer dorks.

Gena pales considerably.  Mike Brooks tried to kill me?  "Ah, no.  I can't think of a reason someone might want to hurt me."  All because I saw him and his stupid metal tentacles?  "I really don't know who moved me or why.  I wish I could help you more."  She glances around, "I need to get going."

OOC: Obviously the thoughts in Italics are for Sylvia.

Sylvia transmits the vital information to the team in the form of thought bubbles over Gena's head.

OOC: That is so awesome.
IC:
Sarah asks, "Are you sure Gena?  There are people who can protect you.  Maybe you heard something or saw something you weren't supposed to?  If you talk about it you might be saving the life of someone else who ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time.  You might be saving your own life.  Whatever happened... there's help."

Gena's lips quivers for a moment.  "I saw, something.  I was having a beer, and I saw.  I saw this guy, from school."  Oh shit!  If he was willing to kill me for just seeing him, what if he finds out I talked to them?  "He was at this construction site, one of the ones in the news."  Maybe they can help me.  "And he had this thing."  Oh god.  what if they're working for him, oh shit.  What if he sent them to see if I'd tell anyone.  Gena shakes her head, "Listen, I should go.  I need to get home."  She gestures away over her shoulder, "It was probably nothing."

Calm down, Sylvia directs empathically.  Trust us.

Gena stops, and turns back to the pair.  "He was wearing these metal tentacles.  And he was practicing Kung Fu or something.  He came over, he had a beer.  We talked.  I thought it was cool.  He asked me not to tell anyone.  I said I wouldn't, that it was cool knowing about it, but I could keep it a secret."  She pales again, "You think he might have tried to kill me?"

Title: Re: Chapter 53-5, Chatting with Gena Ballestra

Sarah shakes her head and says, "I don't know Gena.  Maybe it is cool.  Maybe this is something different or a weird coincidence but starting right now you should change your routine for the next few days.  Go home a different way.  Get a ride with a friend and stay in a crowd when you can.  If you're not an easy target it may buy some time for things to get figured out."  She pulls out a blank white card with a cell phone number typed on one side.  Her US phone number.  "Call this if anything seems weird or suspicious.  If Mike or anyone else comes around asking about what you saw or if you get a bad feeling, call this number.  Tell whoever answers where you are and what's going on."

OOC: I know.  I realized after and left it in.  Sarah screwed up.  Or maybe Gena realizes that Sarah & Colin know enough that maybe they are telling her the truth and were just verifying facts with her.

Title: Re: Chapter 53-5, Chatting with Gena Ballestra

OOC: Sylvia would have noticed if Gena freaked out at the mention of the name.  As it is Gena is in shock, but assumes you guys know things so it didn't strike her she had never mentioned the name.

Sarah types in a message to the US.

Anyone have some time to keep an invisible eye on Gena?
Mike Brooks may be our construction destruction candidate.
Also possible he's trying to off Gena.
Let's get Mike's schedule and have a look into him.
New kid, maybe you can check out his house/garage?
*Background* Mike Brooks & Preston Wilde keep showing up on the weirdar.
They were planning something with lust gas a long time ago.
Colin & I let them slide from that.
Me R stupid.  Sorry.  We sendz dem to to jails now pls? /end lolSarahz

Sylvia wrestles with the keys on her hand-me-down cell phone for a few minutes before a tic starts up under her right eye.  She fights the urge to make her friends think she's sending out text messages.

I can take a shift, too.

Sylvia crosses her eyes at Sarah from across the hall.  Her reply arrives a good five minutes later.

Someday, when our civilization crumbles, alien archaeologists will blame the decay of language due to text messages.
Proper punctuation is important.
Romans used no punctuation.  Look what happened to them.

And five minutes after Sylvia's reply to Sarah she's still tapping away on that darned number pad.

Why don't we have someone with fire powers?  Doesn't every superhero team have someone with fire powers?  Stakeouts would be comfy.  We could toast marshmallows.

Layering is crucial to warmth.  Especially if they have coats too.  Last American Virgin out.

Sarah digs up a note from her phone, copies and pastes it into text messaging to all.
Here's Mike's address.  I got it from Dave ages ago.
No one go alone to M's house.  Bring a buddy and keep your eyes open.  Alicia & Rhys?
No breaking stuff or busting heads unless you end up in danger.
If you get caught inside house U R the badguy.
He's techie so be ready for security?  /end motherduck.
Sammy you're 'rents like you in on time right?
You take early evening watch then John, Me and Jakob probably likes waking up early anyway?
Anyone else want in?
If anyone has any clever ideas post'em.

Mike has a pretty boring life.  He's home after school, at Karate by 5PM and then home for dinner and to his room for homework and movies.  He practices in the basement for at least an hour, then showers and goes to bed.

Those of you who have been training with Jack recognize that Mike has skills.  He's pretty fast, agile, and if the dents in the heavy bag are any indication he's got power behind his punches.  Not super human in any of these respects, but certainly able to take most people.

His school life is mostly classes and bullshitting with friends about movies, comics, and japanese animation.
