Colin had asked Gena Ballestra to give him the bottle of perfume that she had been given by a secret admirer that seemed to have been the chemical trigger used to set Cindy Capshaw after her.  Just after first period, while people are moving from one class to the next, Gena finds Colin and gives him the bottle.

"Thank you, Gena. I'll let you know if we find anything."

As he walks away, Colin turns the bottle of perfume around in his hands.

"Tell me your secrets" he says looking at his reflection in the glass.

Finally, he slips it in his pocket, and texts Alicia.

I've got it.

Colin doesn't get any impressions from the container.

Colin barely has time to put the phone away when he hears a familiar voice behind him. "Hey."

Alicia is there, looking a bit worse for wear. Her shades cover part of her face, but the bruises are still obvious, and there's no hiding the still-healing cut over her left eye.

Her gaze is steady. There is a subtle difference in her stance, a self-assurance bulwarked by determination that wasn't there before.

She tilts her head slightly, regarding him. "You all right?"

Colin's eyes go wide.

"God and Great Spirit! I am, but did you get the license plate of the truck that ran over..."

He trails off, something clicking in his head.

"Oh. So it was you."

He lowers his voice.

"You know, you could ask for help next time you decide to take on the whole world on  your own. What are friends for?"

Alicia grimaces in self-reproach. "Yeah. I'm hoping it won't be as obvious to everybody else."


She shrugs, not quite succeeding in keeping a defensive tone from tainting her voice. "I didn't decide anything. I was sloppy and got jumped."

Dismissing the topic without a pause, she asks, "What happened on Saturday? I saw Sarah's text but I couldn't make any sense of it."

"No need to worry. Nobody really reads the newspapers anymore these days, unfortunately."


"Our guess at the moment is that someone installed a device in the theater's sound system that made people cry. And John sick. We have yet to test it, but I'd rather not have you around when we do. Sensitive hearing and all that."

He's not one to let topics slide too easily though.

"What did they have against you?" he asks. "I could try to make things a little better, if you want."

Alicia's face twists in sympathetic pain. "Yeah, I'm right there with you on that. Let me know when and where and I'll make sure to be scarce."


She shrugs diffidently. "Guess they didn't like the idea of me walking around the 'hood after I moved out." It doesn't take Sylvia's mind-reading to tell there's a lot left unsaid in that explanation.

At Colin's offer, she instinctively jerks her head back a bit. "Naw, thanks. I got these for being stupid. I'd be a poor student if I tried skipping the lesson."

She nods in the direction of Colin's pocket, obviously anxious to change the subject. "Can I see the bottle?"

"Ok. But please tell me immediately if you start feeling strange or murderous."

He hands her the bottle.

The perfume is obviously not a production type.  The bottle has no labels, but is nice.  It has a crystal stopper with a plastic collar to prevent leaks.  It has a distinct aroma, not too strong.

Alicia studies the bottle, unstoppers it and takes a careful whiff.

After a glance at Colin, she quickly places a finger on the mouth of the bottle, tips the bottle, and rubs the wet finger on her wrist. Her nose twitches as she tests the scent on her skin.

The operation complete, she puts the top back on and hands the bottle back.

"Ok, now you'd better tell us if you think somebody else is getting strange or murderous at you. Unless you didn't drive them mad before, that is." He says with a grin.

"I'm taking this to Mr. Heep. I'll let you know if he finds anything. He was able to devise an 'antidote' to the love goo. I had to carry a bottle around for a while."

"Better me than some defenseless victim," she replies evenly, no humor in her voice.


She nods, her gaze and senses already roving the area around them. "Got it. The chemical may only work when it's acually on the skin, but you should keep that bottle packed up tight, just in case."
