While the mayhem on the other side of school is taking place, an entirely different situation is unfolding near Alicia, Laney, and Colin. 

"I'm sorry, it's just not going to work out between us.  We can still be friends though."  Says the clueless basketball player.

"Sure.  I understand."  the cheerleader says with a soft chuckle, "We really weren't right for each other anyway, right?"  and she walks off, yanking the door to her classroom open angrily, and flinging it down the hall.

OOC: I need a Reflex save from Colin, Laney, and Alicia.  +2 for each additional person you try to help up to 2.  Laney can make a Fate Roll as well.

Alicia instinctively flings herself back, using a legsweep to bring Laney down out of the line of fire.

OOC: So even if Laney doesn't make it, Alicia makes sure she isn't hurt. Too badly.

OOC: Mainly to be a dick I wont allow a player to intervene on behalf of another player in this case unless they spend a Hero Point.  The setup is such that none of the PCs are close to each other, but I'll let you take this action (assist Laney on her Reflex Save) through expending a Hero Point.

OOC: It's part of Alicia's make-up that she would defend one of "her own" before a total stranger, so, yes, I will spend a Hero Point to have Alicia fling herself across the hall and knock Laney off her feet with a sliding legsweep. ;)

Colin was helping another freshman with his homework, and doesn't see it coming until the very last second, which he uses to shove the other boy out of the way. Unfortunately, that's not enough to get himself out of the way.

OOC: Is the source of the flying door identifiable? IOW, can we see the cheerleader who threw it?

OOC: She didn't throw it per se.  She yanked the door open and it came off the hinges, and then the handle snapped off in her hand and the door continued to fly down the hall doing a sort of end over end thing.

To answer you more directly, yes you can see her.

As the door spins and bounces down the hall the girl stands shocked, then handle in her hand as the door tumbles dangerously down the hall.

OOC: Feh. Details. Never let the facts get in the way of a good mad-on. ;)

Once the immediate threat is over with, Alicia eels to a standing position, looks at the damage caused by the door, and stomps over to the cheerleader, steam fairly coming out her ears.

"WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR MALFUNCTION?!?" she yells angrily.

The cheerleader, still in shock, looks from the empty door frame, to her hand, to the hall.  "It just came off."  she says softly.

There are some bruises and bumps, perhaps even a minor break or two but no one seems terribly hurt.  Colin has a bruised shoulder from where the door smacked into him on the way by.

Then Laney collects her scattered books and crawls a few feet away where she remains seated on the floor with her back against the wall, trying not to get trampled while she evaluates.  Having no idea how she ended up on the floor, with Alicia yelling, the students' confused chattering gaining volume, and her own head feeling like its being pressed in a vise, Laney is dazed for a few minutes.

Alicia says sternly to her, "Don't move. Don't touch anything. Stay there." She moves down the hall to evaluate the situation.


Alicia closes with Colin and says worriedly, "You all right?" Her shades hide her expression but her voice betrays the emotion uppermost in her mind. Fear.


After dealing with Colin, Alicia moves over to where Laney is and crouches down to her level. "Are you hurt?" she asks in concern.

The teacher emerges from the classroom where the door is missing, and questions the cheerleader, who gives the same answer she gave to Alicia.

The sounds of the event draw other teachers to the hall, and eventually staff.  The injured are taken to the school nurses office if they indicate they need to go.

A few minutes later there is an announcement from Mr. Landis over the intercom "Attention, may I have your attention please.  Will all the members of the pep squad please come to the gym for a conference.  Buses are on the way and school will be dismissed early today, those students with mobile phones who need to notify your parent or guardian about the early dismissal may do so, but please keep the call brief.  All students should move to your next class if you are not being directed elsewhere until the dismissal bell.  Thank You."

The bandaged hands she already had; the swollen lip will be fine in an hour.  Laney graces Alicia with a vacant stare, mumbling, "There was a door..."

"Laney, focus, please. Are... you... hurt?" Alicia exhorts. The tremor in her voice is audible now.

Movement and crying from behind Alicia draws Laney further away, her dark eyes sparkling.  She murmurs, "Nonoallyi'mfinehow'reyoudidyouseethedoor?"

Alicia's shoulders slump with the release of tension. She exhales in relief. "OK. Yeah, I saw the door. Sorry for dropping you like that, but I figured that was better than having it take your head off."

She hears the announcement on the P.A. and her face firms, as her eyes narrow unseen behind smoked plastic. "I gotta go. Keep an eye on Colin, make sure he's really all right."

She's off down the hall before the words finish coming out of her mouth.

Someone helped him on his feet, but Colin winced visibly when they took his left hand. His shirt is torn just below the shoulder.


Colin shrugs, but this elicits another wince of pain. "Not really. I liked this shirt." he says managing a smile.

Alicia stops short of actually placing a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry I couldn' get to you in time. It was headin' straight for Laney and..." She suddenly spins, locates Laney and rushes over.

"Ohthatwasyou?  Weird.  I need what's left of my head.  Thanks."  Laney pulls herself up to stand and smiles crookedly at Alicia.



"Colin?  Where...um...alright..." She doesn't know where to begin, so begins by walking...in that direction...which, by chance, brings her right to Colin's side, where she begins fussing over him as if he were a six-year-old with a skinned knee.  As luck would have it, earlier in the morning an upper shelf within her locker collapsed, and part of the disaster cleanup involved her ferretting much of her improvised first-aid kit into her backpack.  This includes a few small cold packs, which she distributes to other students, once she's certain Colin's behaving himself.

"It's no problem. I'm used to much more disastrous falls from my bike."


Colin admires Laney's preparation.

"Thank you, Laney. Have you, by chance, ever been a scout girl?"

"Huh? Nno...Mike ran a troup in Virginia with his sons and my...I um...helped with...stuff...umm...Are you alright?  What happened to your hand?"

This time he stops himself before shrugging.

"There was this flying door..." he says with a smile.
