Title: Chapter 60
Post by: secretoracle on July 15, 2009, 08:14:43 AM
May 1st 2008 through May 31st 2008

In The News

Hugo Strange, a physiatrist  for the Cook County School District was arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit mayhem and violating the thirteenth amendment by using mental conditioning to force students under his care to engage in illegal activities.  He has also been charged in the death of Stephen Hamilton, a teacher from Oak Park High School who was also involved in the conspiracy.  Strange awaits trial in Federal Court.

Reconstruction on the damaged sections of Oak Park High School have been completed and students have begun to return to those areas of the school.  Crews dealt with numerous delays and setbacks on the project but work was finally completed.

Increased reports of masked crime fighters in the Chicago area have people feeling safer according to a recent survey.  Police and other authorities have noted a decrease in street crime over the last few weeks, and this coincides with the appearance of at least two crime fighters in the area, although details suggest it might be more.

School News

After a break for medical issues (official story is exposure to a tropical virus) the pep squad is back and better than ever.  School spirit is up and attendance to the last several sporting events has been impressive.  The squad, the most diverse in the history of Oak Park, has declined to compete in this years regional pep squad competitions.  Cleo Miller, captain of the squad, said that it was a team decision.  "We don't need to compete, we're here for Oak Park.  Oak Park doesn't need us to win any competitions or anything like that.  No one has really had any problem with that, we've gotten nothing but support for the decision."

Spring Break got kicked off with another sold out house for the Oak Park Spring Concert.  Our very own Samantha Jameson and Nick Hurley stole the show from the very beginning, but were gracious when it came to congratulating the people that made the show possible.  "A show like this takes dozens of people you never see, without whom the people on stage can't shine."  Jameson said after the production.

The Oak Park Combined Club Bake Sale is underway this week.  Help support clubs here at school by purchasing a delicious baked good plate from the tables outside the cafeteria or in the student store.  The proceeds will be split among the numerous clubs that are participating in the sale.  Please remember that eating these items in class is strictly prohibited, but your support at the tables is appreciated.

With the weather warming there is a tendency for Freshman to forget that all members of the Freshman class must have lunch in the North Cafeteria.  Don't risk detention by being where you're not supposed to be.

Starting today all buses will drop off and pick up at the tennis court parking lot directly across the street from the school's rear entrances.  Bus release schedule is not changing, but the buses will be leaving seven minutes later to give students time to assemble in the new loading area.

School Talk

Spring is in the air and romance as well.  New couples are in the halls after spring break, and there is also a lightening of the general mood with the warmer weather.  Plenty of rain (this is Chicago after all) but warm enough when it's sunny that it hasn't been too bad.

OOC: Drop a note here for anything that you want to take care of.  We will have to assume that Colin and some others made a trip to Arizona for Spring Break, and I will happily run that in threads that are not part of this chapter.

Sarah's Spring Break plans consist of spending a lot of time glued to Colin and also seeing how fast she and Sammy can get places.  Everything else if frosting.

Feeeeeexed.

I figure Donnie went to spend Spring Break with his grandfather, and what he thought would be a vacation instead turned into an extensive study of the Accords, and meetings with important people.

Wait.

Colin goes to Arizona with Sylvia and Sarah, while Donnie goes to Iceland?

Donnie's gramps is not in Iceland. That was where the old BorderLord lived. Besides, donnie trusts Colin most of all with Sylvia.

Spring Break? A week with no classes? Alicia squeals with glee. Drug dealers cower in terror.

That pretty much covers it.

I thought Sammy went with Sarah to Ft Lauderdale.  But maybe she only imagined it.  Maybe it was another Sarah, if Sarah went to Arizona.

OK, crazy weird random thought.

Idea for a T-shirt. "My T-shirt went to Ft. Lauderdale, and all I got was this lousy boyfriend."

Why not both?  Leave for Ft. Lauderdale Saturday at dawn - Tues/Wed  then on to Arizona with pit stops in New Orleans, and Dallas?
I'm not sure how far Sammy can fly per hour but Sarah should be able to tack on at least a couple hundred miles an hour.

Oh!  If Florida and / or Arizona are in the mix no doubt Sammy at least and likely Sylvia will get to see Sarah's rockin tattoo... along with a blush filled explanation.

Colin surely doesn't mind anyone visiting him in Arizona. He probably makes sure his friends who like it get a tour of Eagle's Nest (I'm quite sure that's the main reason Sylvia comes). So, Sammy and Sarah are welcome.

If Rhys comes, it might be a good moment to meet the special friends we mentioned so often.

I still have to ask, though: is there any particular reason Sylvia and Donnie don't spend spring break together?

Also, there was a little bit of a storm brewing up between Colin and Sylvia, a much needed clarification was in order. Did that happen before or during the trip?

As soon as we have these answers, we can ask our intrepid master to open a thread for it (one for each character involved might be better).

I think is reasonable that Sylvia, Colin, and John had begun to plan to visit Arizona for varied reasons when Donnie gets a call from his largely absentee grandfather inviting him to visit in wherever it is he lives. Donnie would have been torn but Sylvia would certainly have told him it was more important to visit with his grandfather, herself having a very strong family and encouraging Donnie to build a closer bond with his own family.

The only reason Donnie would have gone west would have been to be with Sylvia and Colin. He has no desire to join Eagle Force(?), considering his future responsibilities would preclude him from devoting the time necessary.

Sammy goes mostly to take Sarah.  She's not really interested in joining Eagle Force either.

More:  when she's not in Ft L, or commuting with Sarah, Sammy chases fire engines and helps the firefighters when she can, but never overtly.
